Judy and Kate,

Thanks for the research. This whole thing with hair color can sure get to be an aggravation sometimes. But I am not yet up to trying to make the transition.

I got an email just yesterday from a longtime friend who spent the winter going gray. She has now cut her long hair off as short as possible. She said it is like one of those things we used to call a "pixie" cut.

Her husband has been away on one of those trips guys go on so they can male bond and fart whenever they want to and all that stuff. She said she has warned him that her hair is so short now that when he returns he may think an old gray-haired man has moved into their house. I can't tell if she is about to chicken-out and throw herself on the mercy of Miss Clairol or not.

Nora Ephron's book I Feel Bad About My Neck talks about this very issue, along with so many other issues that we face as we age. She does it with humor, of course. And you have to love that title.

Hair, nails

and all that stuff.
I am currently in need of a good manicure and pedicure. Will soon need a hair cut and a touch up, preferably a salon that uses wella products.
Any recommendations that will not break the bank?
Thanks

Barefoot 03-29-2009 10:57 PM

If you want Pink and Whites, I am the "go to" girl. I had my first set in October and have never looked back. :coolsmiley:

Please don't listen to Chels .. she only has the very boring acrylics.

Re bathing suits .. I think it takes a lot of courage to shop for bathing suits on line. I've been looking around this week. None at Bealls, Bear Dance, TJ Maxx, other shops at LSL. :undecided: I did find some possiblilties today at Kohls. Will investigate again tomorrow.

chelsea24 03-29-2009 11:05 PM

Ah Ha! Caught!

Witch! Bare thought I was asleep! Talking behind my back! I have beautiful pink and whites compared to Bare's weedy little nubs! :rant-rave:

(Whalen, don't think we're serious. Bare and I are best friends.) :girlneener:

whisper: Hollywood Nails.

LELANDJANE 03-30-2009 07:25 AM

Where do you get pink and whites in tv? I'm coming down tomorrow and am in desperate need

Please PM me and I'll give you my recommendation. I'm going on Tuesday for new Pink and Whites.

And I can also give you the name of Chel's pedicure guy! I have to admit, he does a great leg massage.

LELANDJANE 03-30-2009 11:13 PM

I don't know how to PM! Sorry

chelsea24 03-31-2009 12:53 AM

Here it is...

Hollywood Nails for manicure and pedicure Le! You'll love it there. Right on 466 in the row of shops in front of Wal-Mart. :eclipsee_gold_cup: Ask for Timmy for the pedicure. He's wonnnnnnnnnnnnnderful!

I have used Hollywood Nails (753-4134) as recommended by Chels. Timmy is good for pedicures.

However ... for my cherished Pink and Whites, I prefer "Nails and Beyond". It is located beside Bonefish Grill on CR 466 (west of Southern Trace Plaza). 753-9222 .. ask for Cindy.

LELANDJANE 03-31-2009 08:23 AM

Thanks,

I'm about to leave for tv and will try for the pink and whites tomorrow.
Have a great weekend!

Barefoot 04-16-2009 07:30 AM

I just used the Salon Professional Academy for a hair color. I could have done it at home in ten minutes by using "Perfect 10"! But I thought I'd give the Academy a try.

It took them 2 1/2 hours to turn my hair coal black. Which would be just fine, if I hadn't requested light brown. :cus:

Never, never again. And if you see me, I'll be wearing a hat for a while.

KathieI 04-16-2009 08:11 AM

Oh Bare, that's so awful. There are some shampoos that will strip some of that color out for you without hurting the condition of your hair, I'll have to think about which ones. But don't redo the color for a few days - that's what I used to hear at Redken. Wonder why they were too stupid to realize the color was not what you wanted.??? Thanks for the heads up, I'll never go there now.

You won't need to wear a hat, you'll still look so cute. Hope to see you on Friday at the lunch. Lots of our friends will be there! Surprise, surprise!!

nONIE 04-16-2009 08:45 AM

Bare,

It seems alot of the colors come out much darker then they are supposed to. I always go one shade lighter then the color I want and it comes out perfect . the problem is that it fades so quickly in the Florida sun, How do you prevent that????

Just sit in the sun a few days, I guarantee it will lighten up about 3 shades very quickly! The other thing is washing your hair in Dawn Dish liquid. Its a little harsh but a good conditioner should do the trick!

Barefoot 04-16-2009 01:11 PM

I'm on my way out the door to buy Dawn Dish Detergent. Thanks Nonie. I'll never joke about doilies again.

Kathie, if you think of the shampoo, it may do a kinder job than Dawn Detergent! I'm wearing baseball hats for now and avoiding anyone I know.

I'm leaving TV on Saturday for six months. Surely by the time I return I won't look like Morticia any more. Is there ever a lot of stuff to do at the last minute, arrrrrg.

Ah, the things we did when we were young. (And now I'm old, I still keep doing them :cus: ).

I remember at 13 using straight first-aid peroxide on my hair on the top only and winding up with ORANGE HAIR!! OMG, I told mom it happened at the pool from the chlorine... she didn't buy that lie. Thank goodness I wised up, or did I????????

Good Morning JeanneBeannie,

Welcome. I have always loved this thread that Barefoot started more than a year ago I think. (My computer is really slow this morning or I would look back at the date of the first post.) Anyway, where else but with Girl Talk could we parade our hair color issues and people would understand perfectly and try to help. And all those other things, too. And the topics just go from one to the other and all over the place and everybody in this thread likes it that way and gets it all just fine.

I am not in TV at this point. We are thinking of a small second home there maybe. We were there for a month in 2007 and were not quite ready. We will return this summer or fall for a long rental and another look. Meanwhile, I am taking golf lessons again. I took them a few years ago but I need major help and will never be good at it. I am really good though at going out to lunch after. But there is so much to do in TV that golf is not required.

So good luck on your house sale and your new adventure.

Boomer

katezbox 04-17-2009 07:50 AM

Welcome Jeanne

I love your screen name! This is such a fun thread.

Boomer, I will gladly golf with you this summer. I love to play, but will never be good. I just love the courses and how beautiful it is outside. Plus you can drink beer to improve your chances of hitting the ball in the right direction.

I am also quite good at lunch - I wish I were better at golf and less good at lunch.

C'est la vie.

Kate

sschuler1 04-17-2009 07:54 AM

Welcome Jeanne! The more the merrier! Keeps the topics interesting!!

KathieI 04-17-2009 09:28 AM

Jeanne, welcome to girl talk. You'll love it in the villages. Good luck with selling your home. I hope you move into Heavenly Hadley, we already have about 5 single women on my street and we are all good friends. You'll have a great time with us. Keep us posted on your progress. Sell, sell, sell!!!!

nONIE 04-17-2009 10:12 AM

A great big welcome to you Jeanne!

Where in N.Y. state do you live????

JeanneBeannie 04-17-2009 10:44 AM

Break Time Lol....

How wonderful you all are!! Thank you so much for your very warm welcome! :mademyday:. No wonder everyone cant wait to return or move there!! :coolsmiley:. Boomer thank you, I took golf lessons once, I could hit the ball but could never get it in the air lol! I'm much better at lunch too! Thank you Kate, my friends call me Jeanne Beannie, I guess cause I am so silly (or nuts lol). Thanks Sshuler for the welcome too! And Nonie...I live in Cobleskill are we near each other? And thank you Kathie for the nice welcome....you will laugh if I can explain this right. Every night I go to bed with all these villages running thru my head, where am I to look?, and everytime I kept telling myself that I need to check out "Heavenly Hadley". So cool that there are other single women there too! It must have been a premonition sp? lol. Are there any houses there for sale? I look forward to meeting all of you!! Thanks again! :pepper2:

JeanneBeannie, we love silliness in TV. You will fit right in and you will just love it here, I promise you that.

By the way, I said in an earlier post that Head & Shoulders would strip color from your hair if you are "overdyed" like I am right now. Nope, it doesn't strip color any more. I think people must have complained to Head & Shoulders. And they must have added a "color guard" to their shampoo. :yuck:

So today I'm using Dawn Dish Detergent as suggested by Nonie. I don't want to arrive in Canada tomorrow looking like Morticia.

JeanneBeannie 04-17-2009 11:22 AM

Thank You Barefoot!

Excellent idea starting this forum....I think its great! Thanks for your welcome and assurance that I will love it. I am sure I will, especially with all you great gals! From reading all the old posts....yep you are all silly too lol lol, I love it! :coolsmiley:. I feel for you regarding your hair, so sorry, thats the pits! I died my hair for the first time (and last lol) and it came out black! My son called me Morticia for weeks!! :ohdear:. Have a good trip home, and have fun with Lolli...so adorable! Maybe I will be there by the time you get back to TV :pepper2:.

Barefoot, tomorrow?? OH MY, my kisses to you for a safe journey. We'll miss you here but you'll be on totv more often cause there's nothing to do in Canada, LOL.

Yes your right, most of the shampoos that used to strip hair color have been either discontinued or reforumulated. The best used to be Flex by Revlon or Hair Cleansing Cream by Redken, but I don't believe they exist anymore.

Before you try Dawn, go in the pool, the chlorine will strip the color for sure. Let us know the outcome.

Jeanne Beannie, yes there are a few houses in Hadley still available but not many. Let me know if you want me to look at any for you. Get down here, we need another nut!!

nONIE 04-17-2009 01:59 PM

Jeanne, ANOTHER NUT!!! You dont know how happy that makes me. Everyone is so serious here in the Northeast. I get to act like the idiot I am in TV, I guess thats why I love it so much. I can be me and still be accepted. What a wonderful feeling that is.

Jeanne, I think you live about 2 hours N.E of me, practicaly neighbors!

Hey you know what? I just had a thought. I am always looking for company either driving or flying down to T.V. If your ever interested in making the drive with me let me know. You are more then welcome to stay with me too!

My hubs doesnt come down to TV as much as I do. Cant you see us 2 nuts driving down I -95 hell bent for TV? ::loco::l:loco::l

JeanneBeannie 04-17-2009 04:17 PM

You are all amazing!

Thank you Kathie, how kind that is of you to offer to look at places for me! Wow....after I saw that I searched online for places in Hadley! :coolsmiley:. I got interrupted by my realtor tho lol, she stopped by and I told her to SELL THIS HOUSE :evil6:. I told her I was moving to TV, at first she didnt realize how serious I was lol...but she does now! She even took my TV dvd home to look at it lol.
Nonie....what can I say? You are just too much (in a wonderful way)! :eclipsee_gold_cup:. When my realtor was here we were talking about me making arrangements for me to fly down and check it out, I hadnt checked that out yet, its so overwhelming, with the house for sale, my doggies etc. :mornincoffee:, then I get your sweet message! I would love to travel down there with you, how fun would that be?????!? Lol lol two nuts!! :MOJE_whot:. That is a very nice offer, and is truly appreciated. Like I said...I have been incognito for a month or so cause this is a big step for me....but after hearing how sweet you ladies are...there isnt a doubt in my mind that TV is where I want to be! :pepper2:

Shirleevee 04-18-2009 06:49 AM

OK, I put Dawn Dish liquid on my head for 30 minutes and then washed it off. My hair was even darker than before! Arrrg. :yuck: This does NOT work.

I'm leaving today for Canada for six months. So I'll just wear a baseball cap for a while.
I'd sit in the sun (as suggested) but we don't have any sunshine in Canada.:cryin2::cryin2::cryin2::cryin2::cryin2:

JeanneBeannie 04-18-2009 07:53 AM

Have a safe trip back to Canada. Are you going to fly? Is Lolli going to fly too? My sister fly's her doggies, I would be so nervous. But she said they do just fine.
I'm so sorry about your hair, I soooooo understand cause like I said it happened to me too. Wish I had some ideas for you, I just kept washing and washing lol. I wonder if Donna might have some ideas for you since she has a hair salon? Good luck to you and have a good trip. :beer3:

Boomer 04-18-2009 08:27 AM

Hi Barefoot,

I have been hoping that the Dawn would work. I sure wish it had. I know how you feel. When I had mahogany, purple, pink, whatever hair it was awful. I looked like some kind of pathetic middle-aged punk rocker. And I had to go to work with my hair like that for a few days. That was in 2001. The place where I had been going for years had not figured out that I had too much white hair under there to keep using semi-permanent color. I even gave her a shot at fixing it, but she still did not figure it out. So we broke up, after a lot of years together.

What fixed it is that I found the hairdresser that I still have. She had to strip the color out totally. That process turned my hair kind of the color of yellowish cellophane. Then she went back in to return color. First she used Goldwell which did not cover. Then she she hit it with Wella which covered. So you have to get it out and then put it back. Quite a process. My hair must be tough. I was in her chair for hours and we became buddies. I am still intensely loyal to her.

Was this some kind of school where you went? If so, geez! Where in the heck were the teachers?

I know that black is pretty tough to deal with when this kind of thing happens. You might have to get a really cute, really short haircut and then just grow it out. Or if you cannot stand to do this, find the best, most experienced hairdresser you can find and give that hairdresser your life savings. That's what I had to do.

Oh Barefoot. I have been there. More than once. Also had green hair one time long ago. But I did that to myself. I will have to tell you all about that some time (unless I already have).

I wish you the best. Please keep us posted.

JB, I am flying with my ten pound dog (Biggins) with me in the cabin. I would never put a dog in cargo. I've heard too many horror stories. :yuck:

Fireboy is driving with Lolli, Snert (the 17 year old cat) and they are towing a motorcycle. Good luck to him. It is a 26 hour drive.

Boomer, thanks for the note on hair colour. I've decided to ignore my black hair .. in three weeks it will fade I know. Hats are my friend.

And by the way, I am very grateful for the information and support you gave me when I had to have Brutus euthanized. Thanks again.

Boomer 04-18-2009 10:40 AM

Barefoot,

You are quite welcome. I can relate, as you know.

Spring and blue sky have finally arrived in Ohio and I am not passing the computer as often as on those dreary days of winter. In fact, right now I am going outside with my brand new pair of Felco2 pruners to chop the heads off my Knockout roses. Actually, I am taking them back to less than a foot from the ground. So that's more than just their heads I guess. I turn into the Red Queen when I get my pruners in hand. But I digress...

Anyway, did I miss something? Who is the beautiful creature in your new avatar?

Boomer

JeanneBeannie 04-18-2009 02:51 PM

Holy Smokes Boomer!!

Guess what? My sister just sent me an email, and she dyed her hair with Clairol and she said it came out red, purple and orange!! And she said the same thing that you did lol....that she looked like a punk rocker! Oh...but the point of me telling you this is lol (sorry I tend to yack on and on lol) :blahblahblah:. She had to go to a professional today, cost her $200, and they told her that she cant color over highlights and sometimes happens when trying to cover gray. She had hair down to her waist, but had to cut it to her ears!! :22yikes:

nONIE 04-18-2009 03:40 PM

Wouldnt it be wonderful if totally bald came into style for women?? Then all we would have to worry about is what polish to use to make it shine!:sigh:

As Bare would say, easy peasy!

Oh Bare, Im so sorry the Dawn did not work! It did work for me a while back!

What kind of dye did they use on you? It sounds like the kind of stuff Im looking for that wont fade away in the sunshine. Geeezzzzz! Well one thing for sure is I have seen you in a baseball cap and you look adorable, but if the sun happens to come out in Canada, take the cap off and bask in it, hopefully that will help! Safe journeys for you & Fireboy.

JeanneBeannie 04-18-2009 04:16 PM

Cool Idea Nonie....
