GG: That is bad news indeed. I've suspected hair dye can't be good for me, using it for so many years, leaking all those chemicals into my scalp. But I've buried my head in the sand, (or in the dye bottle).

Being a dark headed person I am very concerned also. I heard something about this quite a few years ago. I know my sister-in-law uses some kind of natural herbal dye, Ill try to find out what it is but believe me it doesnt look that great!
Are we all going to have to become blondes?

Nonie I did like you and the others, I knew it was dangerous and chose color over being grey. Vanity...sigh...oh well there are so many things that can give you cancer in the world what's one more?

As to the blonde thing...my mother taught her girls that women don't go grey, they go blond...we always listen to our mother.;)

I'm so happy I don't have to color my hair yet. It's surprising because my mother and grandmothers were coloring their hair by the age I am now. Guess I should count my lucky stars.

My best girlfriend in Miami is my age (70) and she has snow white hair which she keeps very short (like mine) and it looks very striking...... really flattering !! I think a stylish haircut is more important than the color :clap2:

I agree with snow white hair looking stunning. Bright white hair is shockingly striking.

However, not all white hair is "snow white". There are some that are more gray dull and some yellowish. Neither are flattering, in my opinion.

I agree a good, stylish haircut is essential but the tone of gray hair can take the focus away from the cut.

Not many woman are blessed with the beautiful snow white "purist" hair. I hope I am but it's still way too soon to tell.

Well, GG, this is certainly not good news. I had been coloring my hair dark for several years, but in Oct '04 I stopped and let my hair go back to it's natural state. I had heard that dark dye was carcinogenic, and I thought it was a good time to stop since I was retiring the end of that year and moving to FL shortly thereafter. Well, I've been grey now for 4 years, but I really got so tired of the unmanageability of my hair, and tired of how the color seemed to make me look "washed out". Since I hadn't heard any more negative reports about dark hair dye, I decided I'd go back and take those extra 10 years off by coloring my hair again. In fact, I just did it again earlier this afternoon. Then I came on here and look what I've found! Boy oh boy, not good. I guess you've helped me make another decision. Time to put the bottle down (hair dye, silly, not that!) Thank you for letting us know that the dangers are real and do still exist. Having lost both parents to different types of cancers, the warning has been heard loud and clear! Thanks, GG!

Re. this hair dye thing: I have Googled the heck out of it. There is a lot of information out there on the studies.

But I have not Googled those studies as much as I have Googled the HRT studies of 2002 I think it was. There have been some follow-ups to those. And some books written about them.

When I make a decision, I gather as much information as I can stand to gather and then I make the decision and then I hope it's the right one for me.

So, here I am sitting in front of my computer... at TOTV.... looking out the French Doors at the leaves falling....... and in a sunbeam shining through the glass - I see many particles of ......... DUST !!! OMG! That's what I'm breathing in ?

Sorry to confess...... I don't ever dust anything :eek: but maybe it's time to start ? ya think? Here's where I need some advice, please........ how, or what is the best tool to use ? I've been seeing on television commercials those telescoping Swiffer dust thingies with disposable pads or do you use a spray with a cloth, ? (Don't tell me you have a "maid".... cuz that's gonna be me :yuck: )

Glad to change the subject. I just got a new swiffer dust mop for here in TV and although the floor looked O.K., it sure picked up a lot.
