The First Amendment protects us only from the government, not from each other. You cannot speak offensive language and invoke "Free Speech" to defend what you are saying.

Choosing to speak diplomatically, particularly when in social settings where you disagree with others, is not a violation of your rights to free speech. It is your choice. You are "free" to say anything you want. However, you may not like the results.

And you often need to prove that it was a state action and not some bureaucrat being a jerk. Column: Applying the Constitution to Private Actors (New York Law Journal) | New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) - American Civil Liberties Union of New York State

My wife and I did a Marriage Encounter weekend during the early 1970's.

The priest explained that feelings were neither right nor wrong but rather how one reacted to those feelings

He also explained that our communication should be an open and honest sharing void of garbage dumping

My wife only remembered the last portion of both those statements:)

In our Marriage I can say whatever I like providing my wife approves it first.

I have this phrase tattooed inside my eyelids.

You know guys, this thread if very one sided!

I married the only child Mama's boy who was used to getting his own way in EVERYTHING. The early days were tough, walked on eggs many times to save the peace. Free speech did not exist in our home until I got the hang of handling a spoiled brat. :ohdear:

These days I pick my battles and if I get the silent treatment I just jump in the car and take off, so much more to do in TV.:boom:

Since I live with my parents, I do have to be very careful what kind of Free Speech I exercise or I would find myself with no where to go. Just kidding as they have been great with my 224 613 obsession since I was forced to come home in late 1991 after running out of money after writing all the US State Governors, all the US Senators, two hundred and forty five or so US House Representatives, some law school deans, various leaders in various areas including maybe those with Hollywood connections ( when fighting a bully get the meanest ****** in the Valley to help you out and anyone else I could think off ) after my law school colleagues pretty much told me I was blacklisted from the profession I had just earned four degrees to enter, etc. Check my Taltarzac725 Photobucket array. I have done wonderful things just through the love of family and true grit and never giving up on my dream. Of course, I still have to be very careful what I say. :welcome::bigbow::popcorn::clap2: And I am still very scared of homelessness despite all the very hard work I have done for others since January 1991. It still seems like the bureaucrats are winning the war.
