Yep - that's how I remember a hot dog made in the South Side of Chicago: no Catsup. I can't speak for the North Siders.

Love that web site - thank you for sharing it. And there will never be ketchup on my hot dog! :mmmm:

Ketchup on a hot dog???

Pardon me while I gag!

And the Professor of Hot Dog University--Mark Reitman-- says...

National Hot Dog Day 2014: Hot Dog University - TIME

Basically, where's the beef with having ketchup on your hot dog. No big deal in other words.

When my husband and co-workers traveled to or through Chicago on business, a must for the boss was stopping at a place in O'Hare that made Chicago-style hotdogs. No matter what time of day. Husband refused to eat one before noon.:mornincoffee:

I noted in the Hot Dog Professor link that he talked about a proper order when putting on condiments for Chicago style hot dogs. http://time.com/3013547/hot-dog-university/

Quote:

When you put the condiments on a hot dog, you never put them on the bun. And there is an order. A Chicago-style dog has seven condiments, starting with a thin line of mustard on top, then green relish, then diced onions. On one side of a poppyseed bun, you put two thinly-sliced tomato wedges, and on the other side, you put two sport peppers. Then throw on a cold pickle spear in the middle and a dash of celery salt.

We sissies are stuck inside in the cool. We have time to debate...is it ketchup or catsup?

What's the Difference Between Ketchup and Catsup? | Mental Floss

That probably depends on what town you are in here in the US. I would expect since the Villages had people from not only all over the US but also from Canada, Haiti, Great Britain, Israel, France, Germany, etc. that "ketchup" would be more widely accepted.

I only use the red stuff on my kosher hot dogs[emoji14][emoji14]

Vinny 07-28-2014 01:49 PM

I used to put both mustard and ketchup on my hotdogs. However, ketchup now gives me heartburn so it is just mustard now. I still use ketchup on my mash potatoes and scrambled eggs though.

If you like shrimp and grits, try Eaton's Beach. Very good there. And to make it even nicer, The Villages own Saturday Night Dance Club band, Vinyl Recall, will be playing there this Friday from 5:00 - 9:00!
