The treated wastewater is pumped into ponds to be used as irrigation water (in addition to a LOT of untreated well water.)
You all are spending millions in keeping these ponds clear of "water weeds". These are NOT WEEDS!! They are mostly native plants and left (mostly) alone to grow as they please would clean up the water to an attractive clear color and enhance the fish populations in these ponds. Not to mention DEACREASE water lost to evaporation considerably. A little herbicide or physical upkeep to keep the pump intakes clear would suffice, and would result (in my opinion...) quite a bit nicer and natural ponds to look at than those baren muddy shorelines filled with milky water. Floridian farmers were using runoff ponds for irrigation for many decades. TV can learn from us frugal Florida agronomists. You know, like they did when they FINALLY quit using Zoysia. The only upside to what they are doing now, is someone MAY be getting a kickback from the company supplying the chemicals? Would hate to get in the way of that. |
