Received our shots on Thur and the needle was long but thin. Not like the ones on the TV video that looked thicker, but just as long. My wife is a chicken when it comes to needles, but she admitted that she did not even feel the injection much and had no pain yesterday(Friday). I hardly noticed the injection as the nurse(?) was talking. An hour or so later, my shoulder was a bit warm but no pain. Yesterday and today, the area is a bit tender like a bruise or the feeling you get when you have been working outside and your muscle is sore. Nothing major and hardly noticeable. Looking forward to getting the second dose next month, to get this over with. We received the Moderna serum.

According to this Florida vaccination report Sumter County has vaccinated about 18,500 people.

18,500 puts Sumter County at 24th for number of vaccinations.

According to this page Sumter is 34th by population and according to wikipedia it is 35th.

24th in vaccinations while only 34th or 35th in population: it seems like Sumter County is doing pretty well.

Population is one thing, and the age range is another. What is the ratio of seniors in the areas you mentioned? That makes a difference since they are reserving the shots for seniors, not younger groups.

I don't understand if the site is closed Sundays and Monday it is only running at 70% capacity. How is it that the Gov and other leaders don't realize we are in a serious situation and the sooner all those that want the vaccine get their shots the better.
The police, fire service, hospitals and public transport all work 7 days a week.

Gives them a day reprieve if shipment is behind, so cancellation might be avoided. You really are under the assumption that only you realize a serious situation.

Hospitals, fire departments, and LEOs are receiving vaccine at work, where they have internal staff that do this for a living. No need for the sites to be open for those you listed.

Also unless the vaccine is mandatory, for their job, refusing is an option, and yes more you think are refusing. Only vaccine chaser’s seem to be 65 and up, compared to those who are actually exposed everyday, and don’t have to guess. So not everyone thinks the vaccine is going to be their saving grace, yet continue to work with those who are positive

My guess is that they are limited by the amount of vaccine they can get. Just before they shut down a few weeks ago they were doing 800 or so inoculations a day.

Today when I went there are 12:00 for my shot there were very few cars in line, only about 3 or 4. They said they had only done 50 vaccinations so far today. Opening for 7 days a week wouldn't get them any more vaccine.

Wonder what they do with any leftover vaccine? Would be terrible to waste it.

They are using the Moderna vaccine. Although it requires super cold conditions for shipment in the field is can be stored for a week or two in a standard medical freezer. So I doubt that they are loosing very much.

This is different than the Pfizer vaccine which requires super cold condition not only for shipment but also in the field. It can only last for a couple of hours outside of super cold conditions.

Don't Put Yourself Through All This

Just get in your car at 6:00 am, drive 24 miles to Groveland Drive up site, get your shot and come home. No appointment needed, Total time including going there and back about 3 1/2 hours. No getting up and logging in, no waiting on GMR codes, no pre-registration. Just go and get shot and get home. So simple. Take the worry out of your life. And they give you your appointment for the 2nd shot before you leave.

Do you have to live in Lee County? I am looking for a place like this for my dad who lives in The Villages in Sumter County.

The number of vaccines reported per day in Sumter County has gone down since GMR came back to town last Thursday. Are they just not reporting their numbers? Or are they only doing 600 or so a day?

Has anyone who signed up for GMR but did not get an appointment before they shut down been offered an appointment? I’m wondering if I should give up on Sumter and hunt for vaccines in Lake county or Orlando. Is there any way to tell where you are on the list?

We went today to Groveland for my wife's first shot. Arrived at 7.30 in a line of cars. The site opened at 8.00. We got into the site at 8.30 and after the vaccine shot and 15 minute wait we left the site by 9.00. There was not even a line of waiting cars at that time, The person who did the wife shot said they had 2200 doses available for the day. Very well organised operation and recommend it instead of messing around with the Publix lottery or the GMR fiasco, I had my shot at The Leesburg Lake Square Mall a week ago and the was also very well organized. The advantage of Groveland is that you don't require an appointment.

Received 2nd GMR shot today at Woodridge site. In and out in 25 minutes, including 15 minute monitoring period after shot. Just like the first dose.

Yes, we had appointments for both doses, which were also easy to get.

When did you sign up for those appointments? Perhaps I need to re-signup.

Our first shot was January 12th and we signed up just a few days prior to that. Our 2nd shot was scheduled automatically following the first shot. Here’s the website we used...
