Why oh Why

Smalldog Sez last evening was a lovely evening and my mommy and dad were going to open the windows to get some fresh air but since we live in Liberty Park and the stink from that sewer plant in back of the fire house on Bonita Blvd near the circle with Buena Vista, was to strong ........ dad often plays Becall and Bogart so he knows it isn't all that unusual >:( I wonder how much the folks in the Villages of Largo and Duval are affected ...... I've head it said it said that the stink isn't necessary if the plant is operated properly :dontknow: I wonder why the Real Estate people from the Villages forgot to mention that the plant was there ::)

Smalldog, you've shared some important information, thank you.
No wonder you look depressed.

We drove by that area Monday night. It was awful . We all knew what it was, but still announced to one another "It wasn't me." It was really strong. Speaking of strong,
I also noticed a horrible smell when you approach the Bridgeport Lake Sumter gate coming from the square side. Some animal (a gator??) must have died. It smells nasty.

Re: Why oh Why

Since the plant is East of Liberty Park, and the prevailing winds are typically from the west, doesn't any odor generally go away from Liberty Park?

Re: Why oh Why

Maybe like growing up in the stockyard area, one becomes acclimated to the smell, but I've been in Liberty Park for 3 years and don't think the plant is that bad (95+% of the time). I find the smell from irrigation sprinklers to be much more fetid. And that's not consistant. Generally it's not too bad, but occasionally if would knock a buzzard off a :edit: wagon.

And smalldog, I've heard the same thing about the plant, from supposedly reliable sources. It seems that most frequent occurrence of really foul odors was on weekends. I was told that this was when the plant was not manned and some machinery had shut down causing the problem. When it happened during the week, there was always someone around to restart. Who knows?

I've never noticed an odor before and hope there isn't one when we arrive at our villa in Liberty Park Saturday. Wouldn't that be a wonderful welcome home?

We're in Lexington, Kentucky, tonight. Staying in Atlanta tomorrow night then onward to Paradise...Paradise Lost if there's a disgusting smell in the air! :barf:

Oh Bright, It's wonderful that you will be here soon!! It's windy out right now. Maybe it will blow all the bad smell away.

We don't notice any odor here in Duval.

Hijack! :cop: I have to make a comment about smalldog's avatar. It so much reminds me of the pug we had. I miss him so much and seeing this avatar just made up my mind that when we get a pup again, it will be a pug. Sorry for the hijack. ::)

Re: Why oh Why

We stayed for a week just north of the plant in Largo and didn't notice any smell. But maybe we were just lucky since it was only a week.

Good info though.

Smalldog,
Is your place north or south of St. Charles? And, how often do you get the smell?

Smalldog Sez to be honest it (the stink) only occurs once in a while ... it is so very annoying when it does .... so since it is only once in a while no problem right ???
well tornado's and our feral cats and our big big storms are only once in a while also .... and this problem should be correctable, maybe

Re: Why oh Why

Sewage pumps stations or treatment plants are always odorous (I worked construction in dozens in the SF Bay Area for 35 years).

Some are better than others and some days worse than others. Generally, they are better in the colder weather.

Re: Why oh Why

Interesting! If you go on Google Maps and check South section of TV using Satellite view you can see that sewage treatment plant was there long before any development in the area. Its just cleared earth south of LSL and even LSL is only partially completed at time of photo.

Re: Why oh Why

We live in the Bonita Villas southeast of the plant and in the year and a half we have lived here we have NEVER smelled anything. We have noticed at times a smell from the recycled water when watering our lawn. Perhaps this is what some people smell and think it is coming from the plant.

Re: Why oh Why

Well, we arrived at our villa in Liberty Park this afternoon about 4. Perhaps the air is blowing away from us...but...I smell no odor whatsoever!
