Request of Guard Gate Attendants

Please time the opening of the guest gate so the guest isn't going through the gate at the same time as a resident is going through the resident gate. We were almost side swiped this morning by a person holding a phone and driving a car with license pkate UK..1. Her gate went up and she never looked to her right to see us half way through our gate. Not our first near collision at the gate.

Good luck with that one! Some of the gate attendants are awesome. They look, they care. Others just don't. If I see that an attendant just waves cars through, I proceed very cautiously. If I see a caring attendant, I just go through cautiously. You never know what will jump out after going through the gate.

I think a driver should pay attention to their surroundings. Gates and roundabouts seem to be a problem because of lack of attention.

That's a big 10-4. Timing of the gates won't help if those proceeding thru don't pay attention to what the heck they are doing 'cause they are busy on the phone or doing some other stupid thing while driving.

I have never driven as cautiously as I do here.

:agree: Pleading for that on TOTV probably won't get it done; calling CW might. My wife called Community Watch a couple of months ago and asked if they would please train the gate attendants on how to direct large amounts of traffic thru gates and, from what I was recently told, they had that training.

Neither have I. And I know my age is part of the reason.

Request of Guard Gate Attendants

We had a presentation from Community Watch at our last CIC meeting. All gate attendants are trained to control traffic as the OP describes.

No system is perfect and I'm sure some attendants simply perform better than others. There is plenty of video at all gates, which is reviewed as needed. I'm convinced CW is always trying to make it work.

From my experience, the gate attendants do a very good job the vast majority of the time. Plus...even with perfect gate operation...there is no guarantee driver inattention will not cause a problem.

Because the other driver in our case was holding her phone in her right hand, she blocked her ability to see our car which was on her right. She was more at fault than the attendant.

I should have given more credit to the attendant. They generally are pretty good. They are dealing with the same people as we are, just lots more of them.

They do stagger the cars. 100% of the time they can't predict the human element. Some drivers swipe and go forward. Some swipe, and then start going forward only to stop to put their gate card away.. Some people accelerate slow, some accelerate too fast. If people would be patient then there wouldn't be a problem it's actually easy put a lot of people out there want to be problem creators and this is what you get. It's just easy to blame the gate attendants which is wrong.

The gate at Morse by 466 is the worst. The guard is constantly waving the visitor thru, just past the gate is the golf cart crossing. Cars just keep coming. It is nearly impossible to get across to go south on the golf cart path.

At least at the St. James gate, the visitor lane has the right of way. The resident lane is a merging lane.

:agree: Attendants get paid a pittance and are normally cheerful and helpful. It behooves us all to be very cautious at gates.
