Any hope for AT&T?

As a newcomer to TV, I'm finding my AT&T service to be absolutely awful! I've been told that a new tower is coming soon that should improve reception. Does anyone know if this is true? I don't look forward to having to go outside my house to get a signal in the winter! Any advice?

I can't answer about the tower for sure, but there is going to be an AT&T store near Sweetbay. If they're going to want to sell cell phones, and data plans, they'd better make sure that reception is good.

Micro-cell

AT&T will give you a FREE micro cell for your home if you have bad reception. My wife called and got ours for free and when it came in 3 days she had it hooked up to the router and it was working GREAT. We never dreamed of going to the basement to use our phone because we barely got a single bar up stairs. We now have 5 bars in the basement. We lovingly called our phones paper weights at home. Now they act like cell phones with perfect reception. :024:

Don't know where you folks live, but in my part of TV (north of CR 466, I have good service and reception from Consumer Cellular and I believe they use the AT&T Network.

But how is your reception when you leave your house?

I happen to be a Verizon customer and have read over the last 18 months on TOTV that Verizon just has overall better service in TV than T.

Hope AT&T steps it up in TV!

we are fortunate to have full bars w/ AT&T in Polo Ridge. Some parts of the villages not so much

My wife and I have iPhones 3GS with AT&T and had pretty good reception when here in May 2011. Our house is in Mallory Square (Mount Mallory). When I came down to TV again in October, the signal had deteriorated terribly. I called AT&T customer service and the person with whom I spoke said she would "re-register" my phone. She asked me to shut down the phone, totally shut it down, wait two minutes and she would call me back. I did as she asked, and good to her word, she called be back. The signal went from a very sporadic one bar and sometime EDGE, to pretty consistent three bars. It works for me.

I am not sure what this "re-register"thing means, but it seems to be that the phone number or the unit number is being re-entered into the telecom system. perhaps for different locations. My wife had been told that because our phones have area codes for Maryland, all of our calls had to go to Maryland to be completed. I am not too sure about that, but the re-register thing seemed to have worked.

For what it's worth...

Good luck.

been over this many times. sit in Toojays and see IF you get a signal. For the past year they promised three new towers, the first would DEFINITELY be in service by Oct 30, that doesn't seem to have happened. The problem area is from Sumter on down, some areas being good others virtually no signal at all.We got the mcell free as well but then noticed a new 19.95 a month charge on our bill, and I detest getting another device to make the one, they guaranteed to me would work, work. They have lost me I'm switching to far cheaper unlimited everything with another carrier. I will drill a hole thru my AT&T iphone and use it as a fishing weight!

I hear ya, BigLew. It is far more frustrating than it should be. I have a friend here who needs her cell phone for work and did the same thing: changed carrier. I don't think she drilled the hole, etc, etc., but she probably felt like doing so.

I hope the new carrier works for you. I'll give mine the "Toojay's Test." Thanks for the tip.

I was in TooJays at LSL a couple weeks ago and my phone was as dead as that fishing weight you're talking about. Someone else in our group had AT&T and she didn't have anything either. That's the first place I've been (that I was aware of) that it wasn't just poor service, but no service. I'm used to one or two bars, but no bars?

mikeandnancy1112 11-03-2011 06:13 PM

I have AT&T and get great service north of 466 and south to Sumter Landing. After that terrible service. We live in Summer Hill so it doesn't affect us.

Pat_RI 11-03-2011 06:16 PM

AT&T really stinks in Pennecamp I think smoke signals would be a clearer way to communicate.

Sucks where I live but they gave us a mini cell that routes voice through my Internet connection and that has helped a lot. You have to ask them for one and if they try to charge you make a fuss about never using them again. Still doesn't help when I am not home but my company pays for the phone and I am not much of a phone user. I use it mostly for email and it works OK for that.
