dog owner who do not respect others poperty
OK I'm new here in silver lake and we have spent a lot of money replacing our sod and cleaning up our tree .I own a dog which I walk and take to the park several times per day I would never let him use y neighborhood lawns as his bathroom and if he did I would pick up after him and do .There are some who it appears are disable ad they walk their dog using a power chair or scooter fine but this does not mean you get a pass and your dog can use my lawn as its bathroom .
OK said my price pleas be considerate of you neighborhood do the right thing for all Thanks for letting me vent |
Stroglass, please consider gently confronting the offenders and see if it corrects the situation. Otherwise your irritation will just fester.
Or you could try putting one of those signs in your lawn out by the curb--you know, the one of a dog lifting its leg covered by one of those ghostbuster circles. |

It doesn't make it right, but if they're in a power chair they may not be able to get out and clean it up. They may need to get one of the grabber type devices with a bag on the end. The dog shouldn't be on any more than a 6 foot leash and the grabber from a sitting position would probably reach.
I always hate to put limitations on anyone that is trying to stay active, but it shouldn't be at the inconvenience of another. |
I wanted to place a sign but my husband does not want to anger any one as we are the Newbies here and still want to make friends and become part of the neighborhood .
|
Since they are disabled, maybe they would love an offer of assistance. They apparently are neighbors of yours and may become friends.
Is this a daily occurrence that the dog uses your lawn...or did it happen one time by accident? My pup occasionally relieves herself again, after having already gone at the house. Since I am not disabled, I pick up immediately.....but maybe this person is unable and would love some help?.....just a thought. |
Here we go!
Let's beat this horse once more!:boxing2:

When i walk my dog Mr Moe at night, I wear my old golf shoes with the metal spikes. After Mr Moe dumps his load i stomp it flat with my metal spike golf shoes, working it into the sod. next I reach into my pocket and drop a handful of grass seed onto the flattened poop, and again work the mixture into the current lawn! mr Moe is happy, I don't need to carry dog poop bags, and the home owner gets a new spot of grass for free! I make everyone happy and feel like Johnny Appleseed!
Soon i hope neighbors will ask for my services! the Villages Number1 problem is solved!!!! I hope this old post is helpful! Do you want me to walk over with my special shoes and help you out?? |

I have been reading in other threads that there is a rule against signs in the yard. Maybe some others currently living in TV can confirm one way or the other. |
To hollander.
And you think that is ok. |

Although I loved the offer of assistance I'm afraid that would result in encouraging that dog owner to use my yard and my help. Probably not a good scenario. |
Everybody has a yard of their own for the dog to doo its dump in. If people can't walk or pick up, then they can let the dog doo it on their OWN yard.
And, when out on a walk, the dog should not be allowed on a homeowner's yard in the first place, much less let him be on somebody's grass long enough to sniff out his preferred spot to dump on. I've owned dogs all my life and have never seen a log just fly out of a dog with no sniffing and hunching. Owners know when the dog is getting ready to dump, unless it's sick. If the dog has to doo it before making it home, they should already be on the street or sidewalk, not somebody's private property and new grass. |

I agree they should not go in someone's yard but would you really have it in the street??? We have lots of resourceful people in TV and I hope someone can come up with some sort of mechanism these folks could use to pick up the poop. I know how much joy my fur kids bring to my life - it is probably multiplied if you are handicapped and homebound. Please have some compassion. |

Since we have no sidewalkis in the Villages, there is no other choice but to let a dog walk on someone's grass. Walking in the street is not an option, it is unsafe and particularly when the sun is out, the street is boiling hot. We wear shoes; dog don't. If the owner picks up what their dog does, i.e., poop -- then what is the problem? Alas! Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world and there is no single answer that will please everyone. |

I don't know if your comment is a serious one of a spoof, but regardless of which it is, it's pretty disgusting. No one will ask for your services. You are forgetting to water your mess in! |

I REALLY DONT WANT TO GET INTO THIS DOG FIGHT BUT, I agree with ILOVETV, the owner should let their dog poo AND pee on their own property. Owners know when their dog wants to go out. Why is it okay to use others property but not their own???
|
We lived in Michigan and have had dogs all of my life. Never did my dogs go in someone else's yard. They went in our yard. I love animals but I still don't want dogs using my yard as a bathroom. AND I sure don't want someone stomping poop in my yard !!! :rant-rave:

Is there anyone out there on this thread that uses a scooter for mobility? If so perhaps you can explain how it feels to loose your freedom of mobility and how a nice ride in the fresh air, accompanied by your dog, gives you a sense of freedom. Hopefully none of us will never know that feeling.
OP, I understand your frustration because I have been in your situation before. Please watch for this person and tell them your concerns. I know you just wanted to let off steam but you will feel even better if you talk to the offending person. My 2 cents worth. |

This problem is just not in the villages. It is in Destin and Coral Springs and Atlanta and Long Island and Possum Trot.... and back where people used to live. How we deal with it is a measure of our character. Some people like to make issues into larger issues. MOST people are responsible. I say this after living here for almost seven years. I grow tired of the complaining about this subject. Tired of it. VERY tired of it. I don't have a dog and I live on a corner lot. I like dogs a lot and I am somewhat proud of our lawn. I would much prefer to live where people have pets. It makes them happy. AND MOST dog owners are responsible to all of us. I say choose your fights. What is most important? Living in your neighborhood and having friends, or finding stuff to fight about???? And all this kvetching isn't going to change anybody's attitude, just aggravate them further. I choose dog people over non dog people seven days outa seven. |

If you're so tired of it, refrain from commenting. Go on to the next post with a title having nothing to do with "dogs", "poop", "respecting property". |

Common sense approach

OP, I also like the idea of greeting your neighbor and offering to pick up the poop because they are on a scooter----I bet you two will become good friends. Yes, people are more important than a perfect yard IMHO. |
I have a sidewalk in front of my home but people still allow their dogs in my yard. I love dogs but don't have one because I don't want to clean up dog crap. Many people are considerate and keep their dogs on a short leash but others are just rude. There are a certain few people who use the leash that extends and they don't pay any attention to where the dog is or what it is doing. I have asked a few people nice to keep the dog on the sidewalk and I was told that I was an old grouch by one and another told me to mind my own business. I thought I was since he was standing in MY yard at the time. Like anything, there are always some people who can't follow the rules or respect others property.

I have been coming here since 1995 and lurking on this board since 2008 and living here since 2011. In the early days of the Villages these kinds of issues came out in a letter to the editor, in a column called weed and flowers.... This point is this problem exists elsewhere and has been going on for a long while. The problem is not going away and our character determines how we deal with it. |
Now I've seen it all! A golf cart was coming up my street, then quickly stopped and the driver let his dog jump out and poop on my lawn. Dog jumped back into the cart and said driver then turned around and drove back down the street. Guess the dog couldn't wait. should be glad that the driver didn't have to "go".

And if they cannot pick up, they can leave it in their OWN yard, until somebody--paid or voluntary--can collect it once a week. There were pet waste collection businesses growing in our former community, and I'd bet there are people here, such as dog sitters, who would pick up once a week and take it away. Here is an article to start with: http://www.ocala.com/article/2012070...CLES/120709928 |

fine character. She is right in that the subject will never go away.... as long as there are people that dont respect others property and take responsibility for their animals. |
