Tal, I had the black and blue burger at Beef O'Brady's. It was delicious!! I thought it tasted much better than the black and bleu at Palmer's although I like the atmosphere better @ Palmer's. The curly fries that accompanied the burger were crisp and piping hot.

Nothing wrong - except I prefer MacDonald's. I used to like BK but their flamed broiled burger got smaller.

I prefer the burgers at Ruby Tuesday's. Many different variations in both size and flavors. Hive the buffalo burger a try, you won't be disappointed.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the "cheeseburger in paradise" at Lopez's Oasis Grill.
Good handmade burgers in various styles. On Fridays they have a 2 of 1 special and the last time I was there the place was PACKED.
I also like the burger at the Saddlebrook softball snack bar.

Applebee's has a number of different burgers all of which are good.

I just have to know! Is this a joke or is a White Castle really comming to town???

Sure liked those burgers! ;D

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

Don't think there are any White Castles anywhere nearby, but the South does have Krystals and their belly bombers slide down the gullet about like a WC. :barf: For years, I didn't know they'd let you into a White Castle if you were sober.

zcaveman 03-05-2008 03:49 AM

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

I was raised in the South and we always had the Krystal burgers. I was a treat before the picture show.

I go to Ocala just to get a big sack of them. My wife has to keep me out of the sack. Other wise they do not make it home. Oh the aroma!!!!

Fresh, tasty - mouth watering as I type.

I mostly eat burgers so like my husband says "she is a expert". I love McDonalds but I have gone to Beef O Bradys and it was very good...DO NOT GO TO PALMER they can't make a burger to save them..Ruby Tues. are ok but I have gotten a frozen patti there.

Try Chiles....always good, not expensive and fries are always hot...sit in bar for free chips & salsa...De De Dog house may be good but who wants to spend over $8 for a burger without fries...they will not be open long

We vote for Steak and Shake.

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

When craving a burger I opt for the nearest local bar. To me, they make the best ones.

I hope White Castle never comes anywhere close to TV. I love those little things and it would be the death of me cause I'd find myself eating way too many of them. White Castle also has the best mozzarella cheese sticks and I haven't found anywhere else that makes them better. And those onion chips...oh my gawd...so delicious! (heartburn to the max)
Nope...don't want White Castle in TV...no way!

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

Brightspot01, We still have a few White Castles left in the NY Metro area. Like yourself I have an occasional craving for them. But after I had a few I feel tremendous guilt knowing they can't be any good for you. There was another similar hamburger chain in NYC when I was a kid, White Tower. Don't know if they were owned by White Castle. In stead of 12 cents, the White Tower burgers were probably .50 cents each. George

renielarson 03-10-2008 10:52 PM

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

gryoung: Never heard of White Tower so looked it up on Wikipedia. Says it is considered an imitator of White Castle. Also says we have them in Detroit but I've never seen one or eaten at one. But...I don't go to Detroit.

We have White Castles here in Michigan but luckily the closest one is 20 miles away in Ann Arbor and I frequent it maybe twice a year is all. I heard they were building one in a town only 8 miles from me but am seriously hoping that is only a rumor....and I mean seriously cause I'm in that town on a weekly basis!

Oddly enough, White Castle originated in Wichita, Kansas...where I was born and raised. Funny, growing up....never tried it!

White Castle with the five little holes gets my vote. Used to go to the Bronx to get really good ones.

I like Outbacks burgers, but when I want a juicy messy one - then it is McD.

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

If you are making your own burger at home, add some "Dales Sauce" to the raw meat before cooking. It's in the condiment aisle at most local stores. It is delicious on steaks and chicken also. I also use "Montreal Seasoning" on my burgers, steaks and chicken. It's great.
Another staple is Callendars Greek Seasoning. I buy the salt free version. You can put it on or in a burger, deviled eggs, soups, etc. Delicious.

Steak & Shake Or Ruby Tuesday Gets My Vote

Those little minis with a big salad at Ruby Tueday are terrific. But there is a unique flavor to a big boy Steak And Shake with a chocolate malt. Yum!

Muncle 03-11-2008 06:43 AM

Steak & Shake

I agree on the Steak & Shake. It's not Winsteads, but it's close. Just needs a thinner, greasier bun. Love the big slice of pickle and the thick onion. Their fries are pretty good, too.

Never tried Steak and Shake before but will next time in TV. Gonna be hard to fit it into my Weight Watchers diet, though...I can only imagine how many calories are in one of their hamburgers!

Muncle 03-14-2008 10:02 PM

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

There can't be many calories in the burger itself. It's almost paper thin. The bun, cheese, and other add-ons might kick it up. As I said, I love 'em, but if you want to get your teeth into the meat, you gotta get at least a double. Their chili 3 and 5-ways is also quite good. And the fries. And the shakes. Damn, it's dinner time and I'm hungry.

Here's their menu: http://www.steaknshake.com/menu/menu.asp

Steak and Shake website says its double original hamburger is only 32 calories....I don't think so.

Not sure White Castle actually qualifies as a burger, it's more like steamed meat of some sort. Now don't get me wrong I love the little buggers. But if we're talking hamburgers I vote for either Applebees or Ruby Tuesday. Just my .02

Think you might have misread. This is from their web site:

Menu Item Calories Protein Carbohydrate
The Original Double 350 24 26
with cheese 410 27 26
The Original Single 250 15 26
with cheese 310 18 26
Triple Steakburger 450 33 26
with cheese 570 40 26

Sorry for messing up the spacing so much. You should have seen it when I tried to copy the whole chart.

Johnny Rockets if you can get past the foreign matter, like plastic that come with the burgers.

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

When sober Ruby Tuesday's has two great burgers - the mini sliders (turkey or beef) that come with the salad bar for $8 or the Smokehouse burger (beef, BBQ sauce, Cheddar Cheese, and Onion Rings).

After drinking - Steak N Shake gets the nod! Can't beat grease to relieve the hang over.

Re: Who has the best burgers in TV?

Steak and Shake was surprisingly good. The burgers were tasty; the onion rings crispy. For an inexpensive burger, you can't beat em. Thanks for the suggestion.

I couldn't help notice that no one had mentioned 5 Guys Burgers. If you can find a 5 Guys Burger place near by you need to treat yourself. They are the best burgers and fries that I have ever had bar none.

Let me know if there is one in The Villages or if one is planned for the future. Thanks :dontknow:

I like Beef O'Brady's classic burger. Always cooked the way I like it, just beyond rare and really flavorful and juicy. Yum.

The Best Burgers Are Right At My House

We shared some great burgers with our neighbors this afternoon. Start with some great Black Angus ground beef from Sweetbay, doctored up with coarse salt, ground black pepper, Montreal Steak seasoning, Worstershire sauce and chopped garlic. Sear the burgers and then slow cook them to juicy doneness on the grill and serve them on some toasted Sweetbay buns.

There you have it. Served with a nice salad, some fresh asparagus, and some of my grill-roasted sliced small redskin potatoes, and you're done. (Slice the potatoes, sprinkle with EVOO and some butter pats, season with coarse salt, ground black pepper, touches of dried basil, rosemary, thyme and chopped fresh garlic and a touch of red pepper flakes and you're ready for roasting. Put 'em in a tinfoil pan and roast uncovered on the grill at about 400-450 for an hour or so, or until browned.)

Then the only question is what do you like best--the burgers or the roasted redskins?
