Latest on Assault in Duval

I can't find the thread on the alleged assault on the woman in the village of Duval. I would like to know what really happened. Have more facts come out about the case?

njbchbum 08-27-2014 08:53 AM

I don't mean to be rude...but why dig this up again? Why not let the victim have her privacy and just be aware of your surroundings, keep your garage door closed and lock your doors when you go inside?

If this is keeping you up at night, why not give the police a call and see what they have to tell you?

And if it has you more upset, why not have a security system installed at your house?

kittygilchrist 08-27-2014 09:16 AM

Bring it up because the paper and law enforcement did her an injustice.

A man came thru unlocked door, physically, not sexually, assaulted her with an instrument of some kind when she resisted, primarily on the limbs, forced her to swallow a pill. Disabled garage door, locked her there. Heard her banging wall of garage. Repeated assault, forced another pill, barricaded her in a closet. She passed out and awoke hours later.

The house had been burglarized and dry wall cut in a closet. She is recovering and has family support. If I were in her place, it would take longer for emotions to heal than the wounds of the physical brutality. That's how I am praying.

I did not do anything to try to get this information. But it came to me from a reliable source and I feel obligated to share it for the sake of our community being aware as well as to contradict what we were told by news sources.

Thank you for the update. This woman's privacy is not being invaded since we don't know who the person is.. We/I need to always be aware and careful, even in our ow home. I am sad for this woman but glad this information was made public.

I hope you're being facetious. That's all The Villages needs is to have pistol-packing mamas. You think the sex lady brought infamy to The Villages? A town of senior citizens packing heat would bring down the New York Post, the Manchester Guardian and maybe even the New York Times on the good citizens of The Villages.

Do NOT open that can of worms!

Mountaineer, if I had been locked in the garage I would've gotten the gun out of the car and if possible I would've killed the thug. That said, nobody can pack a gun all the time or wants to. And anyone licensed to carry has the right to do it regardless of their gender.

You are new here, right? Many of my neighbors have guns and have been trained to use them. I was surprised too.

They are responsible folks and I love them. You learn new stuff every day. Never had neighbors back in Ohio who had guns or who went to gun clubs. A very big bunch of people have guns here. Don't fool with old people.

Good to know, but this is entirely different from this (below) on the other thread a few days ago. So which story is it??

I cannot believe how people make up anything that comes to mind when they have no facts. This entire thread is chock full of assumptions, and claims to have known an eye witness or relative of the alleged victim, even though perhaps they only know what the alleged victim told them, but they believe what they heard is truth, even though law-enforcement says the victim making the allegations was confused.

My sense of it is, the alleged victim had issues, and so do most of us. Regarding her hospitalization, she was apparently substance impaired. Would that not explain confusion without having to fabricate a story about a brain injury?

Florida has issued 1.3 million concealed weapons permits with a population of about 20 million. That's means about 1 in every 19 people in Florida are probably carrying a concealed weapon. In TV with a population made up of a large amount of retired military, police and responsible seniors, the quota is probably even much higher. I'm glad for it, because license holders take the responsibility seriously and wouldn't even use a phrase like 'pistol packing mama' to describe themselves.

Jaggy 08-27-2014 11:17 AM

what I am missing from this story ( or else I am a dunce).. who was the man that assaulted her?? Stranger danger or relative?

Chi-Town 08-27-2014 11:51 AM

The update that I received from two reliable sources Monday is that the woman was confused, and there might be nothing to the story. Now that sure is one end of the spectrum to the other.

bimmertl 08-27-2014 01:38 PM

Yup, don't fool with armed old people who take the responsibility seriously!

Fearing intruder, Tampa grandmother shoots grandson, 7

kittygilchrist 08-27-2014 01:48 PM

What I have told you today is the woman's history of what happened, which agrees with many of the earliest reports in the prior thread that came from Duval residents. Everyone has to make their own mind up what they want to believe.

DDoug 08-27-2014 01:53 PM

Remember the show Peyton Place.

I'm not new to guns since I grew up in West Virginia and the opening day of deer hunting season was an automatic excused absence at Monongah High School. I've fired a few myself as part of my ROTC training. But I'll be sure not to tick off any of the good ladies of The Villages, particularly if they have their hands on the holster at their hip.

Hope to see all of you in January. I'm coming unarmed, though.

You will do just fine. You have a sense of humor. And so far....none of us have shot each other.

Perhaps it's none of our business, but it's human nature to want to know what is going on in our community.
It's confusing when respected posters hear different stories from reliable sources.

Bogie Shooter 08-27-2014 02:54 PM

I agree with you 100%. And it's frustrating to go on this long with no concrete answers to what happened that Saturday night. I understand someone's right to privacy, but the severity of the story requires some conclusion.

I believe that FL also has a open carry law if you have a CWP? Can't wait to cruise the town squares with my 1911 on my hip LOL :police:

People need to stop the gossip. Just because you hear something from someone you trust does not make it a reliable source

And people would do this if we had a reputable news source that reported the news in a timely manner.

At this point, I don't even believe there is a woman, a break-in, or a village called Duval.

Right to know

I believe that we have a right to know both the good and the bad of what's going on in our community. We may never know the details but I think we can come to the conclusion that a woman's home was entered with the person being uninvited. Something took place that wasn't good. Her life was in danger. If she had a gun, this would have been the time to use it....I would have. We have the right to bear arms and in this case a gun may have prevented this incident. I think we all learn from things like this. It keeps us on our toes and helps us not get too comfortable in our surroundings. Even though we live in a relatively safe place, crime is all around us. We need to keep our eyes and ears open. May this woman recover from this tragedy and go on to live as normal life as possible.

graciegirl 08-28-2014 08:20 AM

I feel that the law enforcement agency did everything they could to investigate. They really are to be trusted.

Bay - here is a link you should know about. http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_ca...city_maps.html

Taltarzac725 08-28-2014 10:34 AM

Link if you are a survivor/victim of crime.

Here's a good starting point if you become a survivor/victim of crime. Victim Services Directory

People should post others that might be useful.

We should wait and see if this suspect is caught. It sounds too early to find out what actually happened there in that house.

renielarson 08-28-2014 06:32 PM

I trust Kitty and her posts. She is reliable. I also pack and give warning to anyone who tries to violate me, my spouse, visitors to my home, or my house. Period!

buggyone 08-28-2014 07:59 PM

Sorry, but no conclusive proof of this has been shown. Until then, please pass the popcorn.

Just curious, how often is that? And I'd call before I came over.

kittygilchrist 08-28-2014 08:31 PM

I think we will probably never know the whole story..
As to how often home violation happens..My door was kicked in once by a stranger, in a quiet safe little suburb of Gainesville.
It sounds like an explosion at your front door. The door frame ripped off like a splinter inside the house.

TraceyMooreRN 08-28-2014 08:43 PM

Pass the popcorn? Really?? I believe Kitty- with a little more being kept private due to the attack on the victim. Yes, Attack. Fact. Lock your doors and only open doors to those you know and trust.
