466A to 301
I have lived here for the last three years and for the life of me I can't figure out why the connection from 466A to 301 in Wildwood can't get finished. There must be some crazy reason for having 466A closed so long.
|
Amen! We moved in last October just a work started. As I recall it was supposed to be completed in 1 year. Last I heard was December.....

Keeping Villager drivers out of WW.

Some of the ladies at the Wildwood post office live in that area and said that the construction has stopped because of lawsuits from homeowners regarding property damage. Cars seem to be able to go down to a certain point now, but the area surrounding the intersection hasn't been touched in months. Since they live in that area they might be on to something. Perhaps someone at Wildwood City Hall has a more definitive answer.
In the meantime, take Powell to Huey Street and make a right, or take 44A into Wildwood. Both will take you to 301 or the shopping mall there. Very easy. |

Their is a MAJOR difference in putting in underground infrastructure and building roads in basically virgin land, that was only ever used to grow hay .... and trying to deal with multiple property owners and finding that existing underground utilities are not where they are shown to be on the prints of previous construction.
Road construction crew NEVER know what they are actually going to find once they start digging and every found unknown is a delay. |
The Super Dome was built in less time and that is in the heart of a major city!!!!
|
If dogs are allowed in cars that use that road I am not going to drive one it. :cus:

Ten Miles plus of Freeway could be built up North in half the time as this project!

Uncle B. started construction on August 11 1971. Finished in August 1975...Took 4 years to build The Superdome. It Opened 7 months after Super Bowl 9 was scheduled to be played there. Estimated to cost $ 46 Million...ACTUAL total cost came in at $ 165 Million. . |

What if they are approved by the Feds as therapy dogs? |

If you like to talk about delays, let's discuss the Big Dig - Al least 15 years and $18B over budget, and still not right. |
There was a 3 month delay because of right of way zoning. The main problem was moving the gas lines. Should be done by March.

This post has gone to the dogs!!! lol
On a serious note, what baffles me is if they weren't going to work on the road, why not remove the orange cones and let us drive on it until they get the problems straightened out. ARRRGG! |

If it's taking this long to fix 466A into Wildwood, I can't imagine how long it will take to widen 466A from TV out to 441/27. I probably will not live to see it finished.
|
466A will be widened by TV for the area from Colony just past where TV of Fruitland Park ends. So that will go quick. The county will widen it from where TV ends to where the 45 mph ends. For the remainder out to 441, the funds have not even been approved yet. So that will take close to forever.
As for the part going from TV to 301, it is the same contractor who did the 441 project. So expect that to be done 2 weeks after hell freezes over. I feel sorry for the business impact. I used to eat breakfast at the Coffee House a lot. But because of the challenge in getting there I go to Fruitland Park Cafe now. I just hope they don't screw them both up to the point I have to find a Villages option for breakfast. |

Construction (in various waves) of the mixing bowl in No Virginia stretch from around 1964 until 2005 or 2006. provided work for 3 generations of highway engineers.
Maybe WW is trying to match that record... Actually, the city council was busy trying to prevent TV from taking away their jobs by trying to change the city charter and create districts based on where each current member lives. No time left for silly road problems. |
My guess is that it will be done when the five banks are done.

It is not uncommon in Florida for the county to steer most road construction to one favored contractor.
That contractor starts work on one stretch, then moves on to another and then another. He goes through the funds and cannot afford to finish what he starts, so the county awards another contract so he can use the funds for previously awarded and unfinished work. And so on and so on. It is a never ending cycle of ineptitude entirely endorsed by elected officials. |

Route 80 is 300 miles long in PA. I guess construction can move more quickly when they want it to. I couldn't find out how long that took to build, but it's a remarkable accomplishment.

No system of percentage of completion draws, no retainage percentage until final approval of the contract, no deadline penalties????. If all that is true, here is great fodder for Lauren Ritchie and her "investigative column". It is almost criminal not to include and enforce these in construction contracts.:22yikes: |
This road needs to be completed and take the heavy traffic off the bypass road. We have been here 2 1/2 years and it closed shortly after we moved in. This is extremely SLOW construction and The Villages should push for this to be completed!

I can just picture a big slab of asphalt standing in line at City Hall. |
