Who actually owns
Lake Sumter?
The County? The Villages? The Morse Family? Is it considered a "Navigable Waterway" for Coast Guard authority ? Is there any law enforcement on the Lake? |

We are so lucky. |
I believe Lake Sumter Landing is just a name created by The Villages. Isn't it actually "Cherry Lake"?

NOOOOO. Then I would have to say; There is no pee in Lake Cherry? |
Which would also be true.

It isn't navigable and isn't directly connected to a navigable body of water. It is also entirely inside a single state. Coast Guard would have jurisdiction for pollution ("waters of the United States") but not for boating enforcement. No. they don't have a boat or cutter assigned to Lake Sumter (or whatever the heck it really is).
|
Lake Sumter is a retention pond - there is only two lakes in the villages, Lake Miona and one other that I can't remember
|
Lake Deaton might be that other lake?

Lake Sumter
I swear I heard a rumor that her majesty Queen Elizabeth was sailing in on the QE2 and she would run the CDD NORTH of 466. She was going to buy it from the IRS and the POA.
And that the Royal Navy with Prince Harry was going to head up the CDD south of 466. And Taylor Swift was going to run the area south of 466A where all the YOUNG people live. |

Lake Sumter or what ever you call it was a cow pasture. When they dug it to fill it they used the water from from Miona. But then they really got in trouble. When will people realize every thing here is fake. ( Fantasy land)

You like it??? |

Woo Hoo! Who is Taylor Swift? |
And if you don't have a Boat you can walk across Lake Sumter or Lake Miona they are so shallow.
Home to many a gator and many, many more snakes! |

I don't think she's gonna be running anything south of 466A any time soon! |

Nearly all the cutesie signage in the squares is fake. The decorations in most of the rec centers are repro, not old (Except Eisenhower) The lovely flowers are not fake - but they are replaced the minute they begin to fade. Most of the residents are not fake happy - they really are happy |

What is the purpose of the original post? Is the lake sinking and the question is who has to pay to fix it? Did some cut down some trees to improve their view? Or did they ask a question just to see what they could stir up?

At least that is how I took it. And as for the fake stuff. I call it whimsical and fantasy in the most enjoyable way. Katie Belle was not an historical figure. Spanish Springs was meant to look like an old Spanish Town and Lake Sumter was meant to look like an American town from yesteryear and Brownwood is supposed to be a tribute to the Brownwood store in Michigan, still run by Gary Morse's sister who makes fresh donuts daily. It's all good. |

I strongly suspect, that the Morse family are a decent bunch of nice folks. Pretty much like you Mleeja. |
It's a good fantasy

Ah yes. But a reality for us who live here every day. So glad I got old enough to be here. |
When I say fake I mean like Disney, its there to make you feel good. Dont mean anything bad. Look at the day markers in the lake ( channel markers) they are not needed but to some one coming from a coastal area it makes them feel good like being back from where they came from. Yes I live here, 10 years now.

BTW, I was told that Lake Sumter is indeed a retention pond and was built to drain some area so that homes and other properties could be built. |
Someone needs to collect all the snippets of "history" from those plaques on the sides of the buildings and write a tongue-in-cheek history of the Town Squares.
|
I love my fantasy land !!! Couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
Don't know and don't care who owns what. Just sayin' :D |
Of course, if you really want a Coast Guard cutter on Lake Sumter, GSA is selling a couple of decommissioned 110 foot Island class patrol boats. There are also a number of 41 and 47 foot former Coast Guard boats up for sale by private firms.

I heard a RUMOR that the new John Rohan Regional Recreation Center will house a history of how the Villages grew.

Drainage facilities are rarely all natural. Even if there is a large natural water body adjacent to a development, runoff must be retained and treated to meet water quality requirements before it can be discharged into public waters. This is the norm for any development. Only the very smallest may be exempt or not have a need to provide ponds or other retention/treatment facilities to provide for runoff from the site.
There are very specific permitting requirements which must be met also. Just digging a hole is not even close to enough. Wetlands and other habitat areas are to be avoided, but if there are what development codes deem to be unavoidable impacts, compensation must be provided, usually in amounts more than the impacts they are compensating for. Many of the ponds, wetlands and other habitat areas in TV fall into this category...man-made facilities created as compensation for impacts in other areas of TV. |
