Waterview homes
 

Still working on my wife's concerns....I have not worked with TV or a Realtor yet but are there waterview homes or lots in TV?
I have seen golf course ponds but nothing that you can use. Some listings mention docks or piers but not a big selling point.

You know. I don't think there are any places that will float your boat. HOWEVER....there are some pretty ponds.

There are some docks on the Oak and Paradise lakes in the historic section.

Mostly, yes. There are a few site built homes there the majority are manufactured homes. The historic area I am referring to is on the other side of 27/441. It includes the villages of Silver Lake, Orange Blossom Gardens and County Club Hills.

Thanks for the link - I didn't realize that any of the homes had docks. Does anyone know how the ponds on that side are used? Fishing etc?

Canoe? Rowboat? I don't think any of those vessels are allowed south of 466, although I recall Village O7 posted that she saw a couple of sailboats on Lake Sumter for some special thing. I haven't seen any.

molddude: There are many homes (and I would presume lots) in TV with water views, though I don't think they're generally for anything but the view. When you're looking, you have to be careful of just what the source of water is in those ponds. Some are cachement basins that go dry in periods of drought, at which point they're not much of a view.... I'm sure surprised to learn that in the historic section there are houses with docks. Harold Schwartz certainly did have a vision for retirees when he started TV!

We saw a couple when we were here in January. Didn't like the particular home we looked at, but the "lake, pond" had lots of birds around it and the house next door had a small boat by their dock

We looked at some homes in Historical before we bought, with ponds and docks, one even included a paddle boat.

But then our agent burst my bubble. He said "Just remember, where there is water, there are gators". I looked at my two dogs and said, "Courtyard Villa, here we come".

The ponds are mostly man made but do provide the minimum requirement for viewing water in most cases.
There are some pricey properties in the Bridgeport Villages (there are 3) with fabulous water views.

However, take not of the comment above.......GATORS....guaranteed!!!!!

And snakes have a tendency to co habitate in the proximate areas with prevalent water.....almost guaranteed.

On the topic of water and snakes - our sales agent lives on a waterfront property and he said that they do indeed have snakes. Mostly black snakes (which apparently are non-poisonous) but also water moccasins. They even had a water moccasin that found its way into their laundry room. There will be no waterfront property for us! If I want to see water, I'll go to the pool.

To be sure. Harold's former house in the historical area has a small dock on Paradise lake. I believe it is somewhere along Aloha Drive.

You need to be at Harbor Hills on Lake Griien if you want to boat. 20 min from the villages

In regards to snakes and gators. We have been on Paradise Lake for 4 winters. We have seen thousands of birds and some of the biggest turtles I've ever seen but have not ever seen a snake or gator. Back home in Maine, I see a lot of garter snakes.
I think the first sign of a gator would be a sudden lack of birds.

Carol, you would think birds would fly away if a gator was in the vicinity. That is not always the case. I guess the birds know they can fly away quickly if a gator approaches.

Our backyard is facing a pond (there is a 3 ft retaining wall and picket fence at the top), and we love the fact that it is a changing landscape every day. Birds, ducks, cranes, turtles and we used to have a gator that we nicknamed RJ (if male) or Ali (if female, we never got close enough to find out).
I think he got a little too big and was removed (he was over 10 feet in length). However, he used to occasionally sun himself on the banks of the pond and birds would land on him and not be bothered. We did notice that when the ducks and cranes kept out of the water it was a sure sign that Mr/Ms Gator was around. We're sorry that RJ/Ali is gone, but I wouldn't want to live so close to the water if we didn't have the wall/fencing, and a nicely enclosed screened room.
Gators are part of our natural habitat here, and with a little common sense we can enjoy observing them and all live peacefully together. We love living on waterfront property!

Travel, I do not have a wall. When I walk down to the water I am very vigilant and not just because of the gators. There are lots of snakes in my area. Hubs fished a young one out of the pool last week. I'm not sure how he got in the birdcage.

I just wanted to point out that we do have a lighthouse on Lake Sumter and so far I have not heard of a single boat that has run aground.


IN YOUR POOL...INSIDE of the bird cage..............OOOOOOOOooooooooSAM. Yucky.... creepy, crawly ........ sneaky slimey slithery snake?

GG-he was little..only about 13-14" long. He was swimming frantically. Hubs saved him.
We do not mind snakes. Kook-a-raches bother me. I can't stand the site of one.

Samhass - we are just about finished having a screened room constructed, which I hoped would keep out snakes and those reptilian sized bugs that Mr. Travel is commissioned to eliminate from my view!
I am hoping that my two cats (who are very good at keeping bugs away) will enjoy the screened room and protect their loving owner ~

And how about Mosquito's........when golfing at sunset you can run into a huge swarm of these pesky little things (near water) and it would not be fun to have to deal with this every day!

I have not noticed mosquitoes at all ands that surprised me. TV must spray for them.

And, yes, Samhass, we pay the cats the going wage PLUS we are very good tippers ;)

We live in a manufactured home on Lake Paradise and my wife and her friend kayak and paddleboat on the lake. Our property is waterfront. No dock but there are docks all around us. Web also fish from our property.

Mosquito spraying trucks come through my Village every week or so, usually well after 10:00pm! The very noisy machine drove The Cat under the bed every time, but I think there are fewer skeeters in the area than one would expect.

I remember when I was a kid and the DDT trucks came around spraying. We used to love running and playing in the dense DDT fog behind the truck. In retrospect, I can't believe my Mother allowed us to do it. This was in base housing at Camp Lejeune, NC.

We did that, too, "down at the shore," as the south Jersey beaches are called. Don't remember anyone ever telling us not to do it either. :)

My roommate has a house "down the shore". . . . When I was a kid, the mosquito trucks came around too. Scary to think we ran around in those dang fumes. I'd be curious to know if the spray they use in TV is environmentally safe, people safe?? Anybody know?

I don't know about the sprays here in TV, but The DDT that we, as children , inhaled in copious amounts has been banned. So far I'm still alive and it didn't stunt my growth.
I feel like my house and yard is filled with poison here. From killing fire ants and other bugs to lawn treatments like fungicides, etc, it sure seems like a lot of bad stuff is required to make Florida habitable. I'm not complaining, mind you. I'm just saying that we need to beware of all the pesticides, herbicides and fungicides we live with here in Florida.

I remember on our Lifestyle Preview, we took the trolley tour. The guide actually went out on a limb and said that TV was 100% mesquito free! My hubby kind of laughed at that one. I know it's not 100%, but I have to tell you, back in Chicago I would have been all bitten up by now and not one bite yet here in TV.

Yes, I remember those trucks! OMG! What were they thinking! :o

samhass, 2 things,

gators can catch birds, even flying ones, you don't know a gator's anywhere near til he wants you to know and then it's too late.

2nd, if a gators chasing you , either run faster than the person next to you, or run in a 90degree zig-zag. Gators can run on land twice as fast as a person but can't make turns well.
