Early results show Ireland saying 'yes' to gay marriage in historic vote | MSNBC


Ireland will become the first country in the world to accept same-sex marriage in a national referendum after all the votes are counted today.

There is little doubt that the measure will pass, it's just a question of the margin. Some are predicting 70% in favor.

An almost record number turned out yesterday to answer a simple yes or no vote. Reports say as many as 60% may have voted.

Many Irish nationals returned to their country to cast a vote, according to news reports. Some came from as far away as Australia.

This was the highest number of voters since voters accepted divorce back in the early 1990's. The catholic church was very much against this referendum, but their influence has been subsiding, even though 80% of the country identifies as catholic.

It is hard to believe that less than 20 years ago homosexuality was against the law in Ireland. How far they have come in such a short time.

The votes have been counted and Ireland's referendum on same-sex marriage has passed with 62% of the vote, not quite the 70% some had predicted but still pretty impressive. The turnout was 60% participation.

Very glad that Ireland decided to have same-sex marriage. In a very short time, it will also be the law of the land in The United States of America.

I, also, am wondering why one poster thought that God created different languages. Was the poster alluding to different races and that the races should not co-mingle? Kind of sounds like that, doesn't it?

The boy scouts, under the leadership of Robert Gates former Secretary of Defense, also just decided to allow gay troop leaders.

This is so wonderfully enlightened, and heart warming too ... ie allowing gay troop leaders to put them in charge of young teens.

The next logical step of course is to allow heterosexual men to become Girl Scout leaders, right?

I don't think the person you were responding to in your post above was laughing.

You see, here's the problem. Maybe the poster that you are referring to just did not know that fact. As someone who spent my earlier years as a girl scout and then as a leader, I have to admit that I didn't know that a male could be a leader either. Of course, this may be something that has changed since then.

Please re-read Post 29. He asks why a "male heterosexual" cannot be a Girl Scout leader. That question is fine-if asked by itself. However, he further goes on with saying he wants that question to be answered by a "liberal gay rights advocate". Now, if you do not see a level of hate there, you must have missed that part of the post.

Anyhow, as you provided a good link to Girl Scouts accepting male leaders, that is answered.

As for Ireland becoming the first country to legalize gay marriage, that is excellent and it soon will become the law of the land in the United States of America.

Does not anyone wonder why America has booed our GOD and started a war with the GOD fearing? Why have the people of America not stood up and not allowed the blaspheming of our father in heaven, let them remove GOD from the schools and the military?
