Athens Restaurant - Reborn

Just read this morning that Athens NY Restaurant is re-opening at the site of the Texas Stockyards on Hwy 441.

This announcement raises an interesting question:

Have any of it's former regular customers ever received a reimbursement for the unused portion of Gift Cards that were sold by them prior to their closing last winter?

I for one can assure you that I have NOT despite several promises. Interested to know if anyone has ever received their reimbursement?

If no refunds have been paid one can only wonder how they can have the nerve to reopen and expect any former customers to frequent their establishment again. I for one will not go there.

How say you?

CSilvestrucci 06-21-2016 08:47 AM

I will be there the day they open! Cannot wait!:pepper2:

Rubicon likes it too. What are your favorite dishes, Bogie?

villagetinker 06-21-2016 09:01 AM

I did not notice an opening date, did I miss something?

Bonny 06-21-2016 09:11 AM

It says they will open next month, July. Probably don't have a lot of work to do to get it ready.
Looking forward to it !!

go, don't go, the place really does not care about your loss.

Some times I take a principled position like the OP.......except when it comes to my taste buds and stomach.....my card went in the trash and I am headed back.

Beef on Kummelweck. And Friday night fish fry.

From Wikipedia
The origin and history of the beef on weck sandwich is not well established.[3] It is believed that a German baker named William Wahr, who is thought to have immigrated from the Black Forest region of Germany, created the kummelweck roll while living in Buffalo, New York.[3] Wahr may have based the kummelweck roll on a special loaf left as a ceremonial offering for the dead known in Swabia as Schwäbische Seele, which is a thin roll resembling a baguette that is topped with salt and caraway seeds.[4]

A local pub owner is said to have used the roll to create the beef on weck, with the thought that the salty top of the roll would encourage his patrons to purchase more drinks.

Taste buds are one thing, getting screwed is another. Why would you reward someone who cheated you by returning. Guess my principles take priority over my taste buds.

Maybe they are opening using a legal loophole to avoid paying any owed money for the loyalty program. It is really ballsy of them to open again without settling this customer debt. Hope they don't try to sell another program.

Chatbrat 06-21-2016 11:55 AM

Once shame on you twice shame on me

graciegirl 06-21-2016 12:07 PM

I have learned something from this forum. Don't buy a customer loyalty card. I haven't ever done that so far and I am darn tootin' not doing it in the future.

It appears that customer loyalty cards are scams.

I am just going to go and pay full price for food wherever I want to go.

So much for loyalty. ;)

Bonny 06-21-2016 12:20 PM

We had several customer loyalty cards in Michigan Lots of good deals. Especially the ones from Holiday Inn. They were awesome.

Looking forward to first visit at their new location. Never had a gift card from them so no beef on our behalf.

Yep my daughter did her post graduate work in Buffalo and when she visited we provided the beef she provided the kimmelwick. Like the reason for the wick , Anchor Bar also created its buffalo chicken wings in an attempt to get patrons to drink more beer.

Much of Upstate New York ,Rochester and especially Skeanatles and surrounding Skeanatles is famous for its fish fry (deep fried haddock)
Athens comes close to duplicating "Doug's " Fish Fry an enormous piece of deep fried haddock but Doug's is the champion

We received a refund only after numerous emails, postings on their Facebook page and basically being a pain in the rear end. We met the owner along with several other people on the corner in front of the old Athens. I don't care how good their food was. I will not patronize their new restaurant if that is how they treat their customers.

2BNTV 06-21-2016 04:50 PM

I never frequented the restaurant in SS, so maybe I will give them a try.

Allegiance 06-21-2016 06:04 PM

Looks like it will be close to the new gun range, that should drive some Village business their way.

Looks like only a few not going. We will be there in the fall, breakfast with out breaking the bank

KathieI 06-22-2016 08:51 AM

I really hope that they redecorate the inside with some major upscaling. It's not very pleasant inside, the Silver Cricket left it the same as the Chinese restaurant before it. The BBQ joint was very seedy inside with booths that were very uncomfortable. This could be a very good location with great parking and would be a big plus added to our list of go-to restaurants.

Carla B 06-22-2016 09:21 AM

KathieI - You said what I was thinking. The interior could be really nice, but now it's just dingy.

TomOB 06-22-2016 04:53 PM

Is it golf cart accessible?

No problem here. We're always out and about. It's only a few minutes by car.

wjoyc56 06-27-2016 10:07 PM

Me too.

wjoyc56 06-27-2016 10:32 PM

FYI, The man who owned Athens in Spanish Springs was Christopher Kitrinos, Jr. Yes these are relatives, however Christopher Sr. & Elena Kitrinos
do not associate with him. He would never be allowed in their restaurant. As far as the old Texas Stockade building goes, I heard that they gutted the place for deep cleaning and redecorating. Seen a few interior pics, beautiful! They say they hope to open early in July.

Would love to know your source. One is the Father and the other his son. They were partners in Athens and I would be very surprised if Jr. was not very much involved in the new place. Listing Sr. as the owner could have to do with the fact that Jr. failed to refund virtually all the gift cards that had balances when he closed shop. Sr. was always in the old place and in fact made all of the baked goods. How can you say that Jr. will not be allowed in the new place.

Headed to the Fingerlakes this week and looking forward to salt potatoes, Skaneateles, and Doug's. We have a house and family (grandkids) about 5 miles from there!

Opmoochler, We ought to have a contest on how to pronounce Skaneateles. It could make for some real fun.

It's "Skinny Atlas" - a thin book of maps was found there but the settlers couldn't spell.
So there you have it.

As far as I can recollect, based on the magnitude of threads published on this forum about restaurants golf cart accessibility has never been a real issue. people freely travel outside the bubble and beyond to find a good restaurant .

Perhaps I am wrong?

I don't think you are wrong. Look how popular Rae Rae's is. TVers aren't the only ones who frequent restaurants outside the bubble.
