Another One Bites The Dust
I guess Governor Mark Sanford's name can be scratched from the list of those who might provide renewed leadership to the GOP in 2010 and 2012. If you recall, there was more than a little conversation from the "Republican base" regarding drafting Sanford to run for the White House back when the campaign for the 2008 election was heating up. It will be interesting to see how the Christian right reacts. The movement's leaders were so keen on Sanford during the 2008 presidential cycle—and so unenthusiastic about the rest of the Republican field—that they tried to draft him to run for the White House.
A 2007 New York Times article broke the story on the draft-Sanford movement: "A group of influential Christian conservatives and their allies emerged from a private meeting at a Florida resort this month dissatisfied with the Republican presidential field and uncertain where to turn. The event was a meeting of the Council for National Policy, a secretive club whose few hundred members include Dr. James C. Dobson of Focus on the Family, the Rev. Jerry Falwell of Liberty University and Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform. Although little known outside the conservative movement, the council has become a pivotal stop for Republican presidential primary hopefuls, including George W. Bush on the eve of his 1999 primary campaign." I wonder what Rush, Sean, Ann and Bill will have to ay about this...if anything. |

Dont care and hope nobody else does what the list you supplied say about any of this. This is what happens to BOTH PARTIES so many times. I guess what they say about power being a great turn on is true. It is amazing over the years how many get caught...somebody will find out eventually....Clinton and Edwards thought they were immune because of the loftiness of their stature. It never works...so this guy can join the other governors who drop like flies..at least Spitzer was contibuting to our free enterprise system :) Perhaps Sen Ensign can do lunch with Sanford one day !!! |
As a GOP woman I hope Sanford is afflicted with permanent E.D. I also hope Jenny takes him for everything he has and that his Latin doctor has to support him.

Things happen in Threes.
Who is the next Shooting Star? Imagine a Presedential Candidate just taking off because of the heat in the Kiitchen? Guess the best thing to do is not enter the Kitchen. Some of these GOP's are scary. Does this mean Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity etc. are the best they have??:cus::cus: |

I think I just figured out what ED stands for, and it is not a nice thing !! :) |
Kahuna:
Look -- He's just another guy with who can't keep 'it' where it belongs. Not good character to say the least. Thankfully, this came out sooner than later. What I'd be more worried about if I were you is what the idiot we DO have in office is doing to this country, along with his band of thugs in Congress and ACORN. Barnie is up to his old tricks of relaxing rules again at Fannie and Freddie. You know, the thing that kicked off this mess. Just so you know, Drudge and Sean, and Rush, et al will all speak out about this. It's not US against THEM. Americans should join together and get rid of this mess in Washington in 2010 no matter what party. Obama does not want the citizens united. Divided is how we will fall just like all the rest of the Socialist, Fascist, Marxist countries. Know history and you will see what Obama and his ilk have in mind. Is that what you want? |

And all you so high and mighty think it was OK for Bill Clinton. And why didn't you want Hilary to take him for everything he had? And did you wish ED on him? Such a double standard that I just can't waste my time reading anything else on this forum. May I never be dumb enough to open a political forum post again.

Easy question to answer for me ! Great post |
Sanford deserves whatever he gets. Cheating on your family for any reason is inexcusable and I hope he gets taken to the cleaners, not only for betraying his family but for betraying his party as well. He's a dog.

I Wonder How Many Of The 545...
How many of the 545 have skeletons in or out of their closets that most of the American public would find offensive? Seems like there's a new one "outed" every couple of months. Many of the most prominent in the last couple of years have been Republicans, but I don't think for a minute that the peccadilloes of our national leadership are limited only to one political party.
What's scary is that this seems to be the best this country can produce as it's political leadership. Maybe we have to begin to differentiate between their flaws as they become evident. You know--stealing or selling your vote is really bad, but just getting caught with your zipper down or lying on your Congressional expense account is not enough to get too agitated about. I hope it doesn't come to that. |
Nothing like a good scandal to take people's eye off of Obama's shenanigans.

When the Coast Guard has to rescue 30,000 people from rooftops, that's fairly good testimony on the failure of the city, parish and state governments there. People are still giving the Mayor of New Orleans and the former Governor a free pass, forgetting about the how disaster declarations are made and what is required (basically, state permission) for the fed to support or intervene. Is the Free pass due to the Mayor and prior Governor being Democrats, you think? Was the fed actions perfect? No, but it sure would have been a far sight easier on the populace had the Mayor and former Governor not failed their constituents. And here we go again. another politician is caught "straying," but since he's a non-Democrat, all of the claws come out. At least he admitted knowing the definition of "sex." |

Have you seen the 9th Ward?.....How about the FEMA trailers. It was a still is a disgrace. |
Quote:
The FEMA trailers having problems caught everyone by surprise, but the fact that people have been living in them for years is not a fed problem. If you think the fed is the responsible government level for all actions and events, then perhaps the state and local governments should be disbanded for being functionally useless - and Washington should run everything local as well. After all, if the fed is going to get all of the blame, they should get at least some of the authority to act. |

A Couple Katrina Anecdotes
Quote:
-- Our former Congressman in Illinois, Mark Kirk, is also a Captain in the USNR and was on duty at the Pentagon as Katrina was hitting New Orleans. Whatever unit or office he was with had something to do with the federal response. He told me that they sat for hours, asking themselves why th Mayor or the Governor were taking so long to make the evacuation mandatory, open all six lanes of the interstate to outbound traffic, or request federal or military assistance. The people in the Pentagon couldn't tell them what to do; in fact he said that they couldn't even get thru to them on their cell phones. Rather they had to wait until they were asked for help--and it was days before they ever got a request from the locals. He described Mayor Nagin as "one of the most incompetent public officials" he'd ever encountered. -- A group of EMS technicians from the South Bend, Indiana area, recognizing that they would be needed, loaded up four fire trucks with first aid equipment, water, food, etc. and headed for New Orleans. When they got there, they were not permitted to enter the city. The local police and fire department told them that everything was under control and that they weren't needed. After four days of sitting outside of town, they turned around and headed back to South Bend. -- A group of doctors and nurses from the Pacific Northwest loaded up lots of medical supplies and flew to New Orleans at their own expense. On their arrival, they were told that they couldn't practice medicine in Louisiana until they had obtained the proper state licenses. No one volunteered to assist them in getting the necessary documentation, so after five days they headed back to Seattle, never having treated even one person. -- The Lake County Illinois police helicopter detachment took off with three helicopters, pilots, mechanics and EMS personnel just as Katrina was hitting New Orleans. Many of the rescues that you saw on TV were performed by this group. They reported flying the 'copters almost 24 hours a days for three days and rescued almost 1,000 people. When asked a few weeks later how they were able to get involved in the rescue effort when so many other volunteers were turned away they answered, "We never asked anyone. We just flew in and began picking people up." |

It is a shame what the media did with this story, and we still believe that they will report the truth !!! And since this thread has gone astray anyway....re electing that mayor in New Orleans, to me anyway, was truely a reflection of how people vote ! |

If Sanford was a Democrat his affair would be a resume enhancer. Having said that, he needs to go. For the record, Sean Hannity and Michelle Malkin both raked him over the coals. What's with these politicians??? Are any of them faithful???
Thanks for the clarification of Katrina. I'm so sick of hearing how awful Bush handled it. There are plenty of things to blame him for, but that wasn't one of them. |

To paraphase Bill Clinton, "It's the hypocrisy, stupid." When the mighty eet themselves up as morally "superior" to the rest of us, or to their colleagues (as Senator Ensign or Gov. Sanford have), then they should suffer the consequences of their own actions. Republicans, or rather anti-anything that isn't "conservative, keep throwing stones with glee. That's the real problem!
Democratic governor NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer campagined on moral decency- got caught with whores & promptly resigned. Other Dems have not been so self-righteous, so the backlash aginst them as been "eh" at the worst, except for Newt's clintonian witch hunt. Recently though, you've got Oliver North writing about howlacking in morality Obama is because he won't voice support the popular uprising in Iran. This is from the man who sold Iran 1,000 hand held missiles to the Iranian Extremist regime. Rush- railing aginst drug addicts- whicle misusing or even dealing- large quantities of illegally prescribed drugs. Then there's: Foley, Vittner, Ensign, Sanford, Newt, Haggard, Swaggart, Guliani, Chesworth, Bunn Bolton, Barr...Etc. It's not that Dems. don't do the same thing, it's that Dems. don't throw the stones or act or self-righteous about "God-fearing family values." |

:agree::agree::agree: Both Ensign and Sanford were in Congress and voted in favor of the articles of impeachment. |
