What a shame
we're spending a few months in the NC mountains, and a small town with less than 1000 year round residents has @ least 10 restaurants that put the best restaurants in TV area to shame including the Rose Plantation-its been a reawakening to really good dining--we went to a real Italian restaurant, last night and wee totally amazed,

Would you say that most entree's are over ten dollars in most of those restaurants? AND What makes them good to YOU? Are they reminiscent of the kind of food YOU are used to from the area you grew up in? I am guessing you are Italian. I had my first home cooked Italian meal when we moved to The Villages. I think people in TV choose moderately priced restaurants and dine out more frequently than they did before they retired. High priced restaurants fail because they are simply too expensive for frequent visits for most people who are watching their money. |
Look up the menu in Paoletti's in Highlands,NC
|
I really don't get the constant comparisons by you. If you like NC that much, if TV is that lacking to you, why not just move? Maybe the old adage that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all should be applied to the supposed lacks of TV by you?
|
How many golf courses, pools, and rec centers does Highlands, NC offer their residents?
|
You have made my point. With salads ten dollars and above and main course twenty dollars and above, not to mention dessert. This is expensive. Perhaps you need to think of relocating there or perhaps West Palm?
Take a look folks. Even if I won the lottery, which isn't likely because I don't buy tickets, would I pay this much except for special occasions; Paoletti's Dinner Menu | Paoletti's Ristorante |
We're no longer in NC Toto.

Aw, it's OK......
These snooty posts about restaurant food kind of tickle me....... TOTV is like a stage...... Sometimes we players "strut and fret" -- all those posts....."full of sound and fury" ....... Or to quote Popeye instead of Shakespeare......Popeye said, "I yam what I yam." And regular readers of TOTV know that this OP will be posting about having taken umbrage over something, often food. And there will be a cryptic or tabloidy title on the thread. And then others will try to beat him up. Almost like it is scripted. It's all theater. "Strutting and fretting" is what happens here. A lot. I know I can do my share. And I well know that "I yam what I yam." I know that I yam someone who never wants to go out to dinner with people who are always loaded for bear, almost hoping for a reason to complain about the food. Dinner out for me is for conversation, with a side of decent food and good service in a pleasant place where we do not have to put up with big, long tables of screechers and howlers..........But sometimes all I care about for dinner out is having the best onion rings ever -- at Cane Garden. :) Boomer (exit stage left) |
Also, NC has income tax, personal property tax, and state run ABC stores--

How many people does the $46 veal chop feed?

Only one, there 3 of us and we ate @ the bar=I had the elk, wife had veal scallopine, wife's niece had the veal chop--after tip total bill came to ,hang on boys & girls --$545.08--most of the bill was wine, cocktails and after diner drinks--if they would have had Louis Xlll-brandy instead of Hennessy XO--who knows what the # would have been--BUT, there is no comparison between the quality and chef's skills of Paolettti,to Arnold Palmer
|
I agree huge difference between chefs

There are some "high-end restaurants" in Tampa and Orlando for those that want an occasional 100.00 plus dinner and a 300.00 hotel for the night. To each his own. "You got to dance while the music is still playing". Anonymous

Personally I can not figure out why many of the Village posters take offense at any suggestion there might be a broader selection of restaurants somewhere else with some meal selections not available in our local feeding establishments. It strikes me no one is disparaging the community, other residents, the founding family, the Village's ambiance or the State of Florida when suggesting some aspect of life might be better elsewhere. And as to the " if you don't like it, take your money and leave " attitude expressed in this thread, how infantile need we be ? The fact of the matter is there are some institutions and facets of life which can be improved anywhere, and only by recognizing that will those improvements come to fruition.

In the past, out of 16 Five Star Restaurants in the United States, Cincinnati had three of them and we were fortunate to have dined at all three on several occasions.
The most special to us was the Maisonette. The Maisonette - Wikipedia |
But, but do they have long pour's in NC?

NO HAPPY HOURS IN NC--booze is highly regulated--state law and Bonny it was a pleasure, likewise

Hey! I got all gussied up and went to the Maisonette a couple of times. Once for a business dinner -- when I had to shove a coat hanger in my mouth and be a charming company wife -- hey! I could do that. And I went one other time -- on my 40th birthday......so long ago.....so very, very, very long ago.........(sigh).......but, I digress........ I can't remember what the other two 5-star were though. |
