Oakwood vs Sonny's
 

Thinking about bbq tonight. which do you prefer. Been to Sonny's and like it. Never been to Oakwood and wondering if it's any better.

Nothing better than an Oakwood Rack of Ribs and a Baked Potato. Oh I forgot. They dropped their Baked Potato because they couldn't keep up with the demand.

Actually, Oakwood Express. Hands down, the best - around here.

I cannot imagine what you are all talking about. We just got back from Oakwood and I found almost no difference between it and Sonny's except that Oakwood has a more limited menu.

I don't order a baked potato but I can't imagine how anyone could make a baked potato any better. It's just a potato that's baked. And I doubt that any restaurant is going to discontinue an item because of the demand. If there is that much demand they'll usually raise the price. If anything, items get discontinued because of lack of demand. Where did you get the information that they discontinued their baked potato because they couldn't keep up with the demand? That makes no sense to me whatsoever.

I didn't like the fact that they only have baby back ribs. I like the bigger ribs. I also like corn bread which Oakwood doesn't offer. Their garlic toast was almost mediocre.

It'll be Sonny's for me from now on.

Parking is horrible. I will take Sonny's and leave with my car in tack/

This place is better than both of them.

I agree..never a fan of Oakwood and also prefer St Louis cut. surprising that Oakwood does not offer pulled pork

Altman's is the best around.
Sonny's is good.
Oakwood has good ribs but the beef is as bland as grandma's boiled roast.
No smoke ring and machine sliced. The side dishes are weak too.
I guess you all ain't from Texas.

I had pulled pork at Oakwood last night.

I'll second I- Barbeque on 441 just south of 466A. It's really good.

Mrs. Trap and I both agree that Sonny has the best pulled pork and Oakwood has the very best baby back ribs.

I have to agree with Oakwood.

I like the beef at Oakwood. Actually is eye of the round that Sonny's used to have before they went to cheaper brisket. I do not put sauce on it and it is fine like that, not dried out. My wife likes the baby back ribs at Oakwood better than Sonny's.

Correct. Neither is real BBQ. A lot of folks swear by Oakwood but their ribs are not even smoked. Boiled and then thrown on the grill.

Are you sure because the last time i went to Oakwood (and that was better than 4 years ago) they sliced and diced pork but it wasn't pulled pork. Perhaps they added it to the menu???????

Lived In West Des Moines Iowa and the headquarters for the Pork Producers of American is located there. They gather at the State Fairground for a BBQ competiton an all day event. People from all over the nation come to compete, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, etc. At the time it was a $5 entry fee. yo got two meals and could sample what the competitors were cooking up. My wife and i ate so much meat that day we vegged out the rest of the week. the Iowa chop is the best pork chop we ever had . the pulled pork was unbelievable . Now that's BBQ and it spoiled us

Totally unsubstantiated statement. I have eaten at five different Oakwood locations and have never been concerned about fire violations.

How about another totally unsubstantiated statement?

There may be a few roaches at Sonny's. I don't eat there so I don't know but.......

Could be why there is not a line at Sonny's.
