President Obama & the Nobel Peace Prize
As one of President Obama's biggest fans, I must admit I am stupified that he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. I see it as one of several possibilities:
No one was really qualified out of 6 billion people this year, so they gave it to him; This was more a refutiation of the warmongering rhetoric of the previous administration that so angered the rest of the civilized world, than a prize for any peacmaking that Obama has done (which is really nothing so far); Obama IS the anti-christ of Revelation after all! All you Rapture people ought to keep those convertible tops open, and for God's sake, don't pilot an airplane or drive a schoolbus- You'll create a huge mess when no one;s there to steer the plane! |

Pro-American
It's interesting to see what some believe is a shift toward a more pro-American Europe. Germany's Angela Merkel is a good example. In France, Sarkozy is arguably the most pro-American leader in decades. Britain has always been, at least since that tea party thing and the revolution, pro-American. Others who know more than I do about these things, say there is a definite trend toward a more pro-America Europe. Perhaps now with a Nobel in his resume, even our President will stop trashing our country abroad and become more pro-American.

Cobo you nailed it.
Obama got the prize from the Liberal Nobel group because they love him for bashing better than anyone else.
He bashed Bush And America nearly every time he opened his mouth. |
Nobel Cites Reasons- For the future

That list includes: the Dahli Lama, Ghandi, MLK, Carter, Gorbachev and many who have sacrificed their lives, their freedom, their reputations or their positions. President Obama MAY do this in the future, and I pray he does, but the award seems very premature. |
Unbelievable
that the Peace prize would go to someone who has SOOOOOOOOOOO little to show towards making peace in the world!!!!!
Less than one year into office, having demonstrated nothing but his willingness to apologize for America and receiving the Peace Prize is beyond words. I guess that it just shows how politicized the the Nobel Prize has become. |
It is simply another attempt to influence USA policy...plain and simple !

Hey he was in office 12 days before the deadline to be nominated closed. :a20: |
waiting
Maybe now Obama can get on with fighting the Wars.
Unless of course he really was getting war advice and not just stalling till after winning the prize to fight his wars. |
This may be the organization that recognized Gandhi, MLK, & Mother Teresa, but it is also the one which awarded the prize to Al Gore and Jimmy Carter. But before Americans become overly critical of the Nobel Peace Prize selection process for picking a guy with absolutely no qualifying criteria, remember that we elected him president with the same credentials.
The Noble Prize for Lit has always been suspicious at best and now Peace has removed absolutely any doubt as to its objectivity, we can only hope that in an ever more politicized world, the science awards retain some integrity. ` |

Obama won because of his achievements.
He has almost successfully destroyed the American Dream. |

Obama and the award were the topic of conversation at the pool today. Not one person was impressed. Yes he talks the talk but has not done anthing to warrant the award. Several of the people support Obama and they were at a loss for words.:shrug:

Destroying the American Dream?????? |
I suppose those who win this award have to thank George Bush....
"In 2002 the prize went to Jimmy Carter as an explicit rejection of the Bush presidency in the build-up to the Iraq war. In 2005 Mohamed ElBaradei, the UN atomic agency chief who had clashed with Washington over the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, was honoured. In 2007 Al Gore received the prize for his warnings on climate change, denounced by President Bush as a liberal myth. " http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle6868905.ece |

Correction.
I changed my mind. Obama has not yet taken away the American Dream because we have a chance in 2010 to get some people out of power who along with Obama will destroy everything that is the American Dream.

Congratulations!
First, I want to congratulate President Obama on receiving the Noble Peace Prize. He does, indeed, raise hope around the world that we can somehow live on this planet together.
And second, I want to congratulate the ring-wingers for, yet again, turning something positive for America into something negative. :ohdear: Sigh.... |
Quote of the day from Today's WSJ
"Obama is now the clear front runner for the Oscar for Best Actor, and head and shoulders above any other candidates for the Heisman Trophy this year." Frank Mitchell |
And I am waiting to hear of his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
|
This seems to be more about the Bush Presidencies than the Obama one.

He has DONE nothing....even the left wing and Democrats are embarassed by this. It is an anti Bush award and a way to try and influence USA policy, PERIOD ! I have totally opposed to this Presidents domestic agenda....100% opposed but as I have said I have an open mind on how he will handle foreign affairs...thus far he has followed all of Bush's ACTIONS..not his words now, but his ACTIONS and I will surely support him as long as the interests of this country is put first...he IS the President of the USA and not the WORLD !! |

This stinks to high heaven. Obama and the Nobel Prize in the same sentence makes me want to gag!
|
That's what happens when the standard for "who"
gets lowered to allow more candidates. Just exactly what is it he supposedly did to get the award. Make great speeches that got him elected? Apologized around the world for what America did? Does?
What a disconnect with reality. I don't care what his race or religion or party.....he did not do anything of significance tha is going to change the world. Unless one counts leaving thr door ajar for our adversaries. btk |

I am very happy that our President, President Obama, won the Nobel Peace prize. As Americans, we should be proud that our President was picked among many qualified contestants. Why don't Americans respect the office of the Presidency and be proud that our President is the recipient of an enviable prize? A prize that sends a message to the world that our American President is seen as someone who is an advocate of peace in the world; and, one who will work toward that goal, however unattainable it has become. God Bless the Peacemakers.....

The only legitimate reaction to this farce is laughter. :1rotfl: Theoretically, and according to their own web site, every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The key word there is "achievements", something Obama most certainly lacked. Obama merited being awarded the Nobel Prize for achievements for peace as he did achievements in animal husbandry. :(

Diplomacy is another overlooked way of achieving peace. Our President has many gifts, and he could have easily been a foreign diplomat as he is a President. Do you forget how many people showed up in Germany to listen to him? Words can be sharper than any double-edged sword. As a leader of the free world, our President shows promise to gain back the respect we lost as a country during the Bush administration. Don't you think that's important? Remember the table was already set by Bush before our President ever entered the scene. |

We do not need to be liked...that should never be the goal !!!! WORDS are nice...this President speaks nice pretty words. I will support him in foreign affairs as long as the motivation is to protect our country, not be a rock star which is ALL he has done thus far. We have Afghanastan...we have Israel saying if no sanctions by Christmas they will attack Iran.....we have Iran getting what they want thus far; one on one with the USA....talking pretty is not going to cut it..your love and support for the President is nice but without any merit thus far. It always seems that those who support this President have an obligation to mention the last President....That pulling of the defense system was lauded as getting the Russians to support us in Iran...dont see that happening and in fact they today said they were "puzzled" by the new USA defense system. My point is not to criticize the President....I will support him, but there is NOTHING TO SUPPORT THUS FAR EXCEPT PRETTY WORDS ! As for diplomacy....great thought, but PLEASE give some thought to those you want to use that tact on....read history about all the FAILED attempts at such actions ! You dont mention the attempts at negotiations and diplomacy that have been tried and failed ! You ASSUME that it failed because of the last President ! |
Big Difference! Huge!
I don't have to guess at how the world saw us during the last administration as opposed to this one. I traveled abroad several times and there is a vast difference between the pure hatred of Bush and the hope that President Obama brings. Wonderful support for Obama coming from all parts of the world. It's sad that a handful of American's cannot feel the same.
“Words are the voice of the heart” You don't care if America is "liked"??? That's awfully arrogant! I absolutely want us to be admired by the rest of the world again. I'm sick and tired of us being looked at as the bullies on the block. Don't fiddle while Rome burns. |

Guess who this quote, from a CNN/Gallup poll, was referring to.... "The president continues to be highly regarded. By solid majorities of 65 percent or more, those surveyed said he has a vision for the country's future, has brought dignity back to the White House and is a strong leader willing to make hard decisions," I have no NEED for this country to be admired by the rest of the world...if that happens as a result of our actions, so be it, but it SHOULD NOT BE OUR GOAL. Our goal should be what is best for the United States of America ! By the way, the quote was from a CNN/Gallup poll in 2003 right after George Bush made a Thanksgiving visit to troops in Iraq referring to the person I think you may have referred to as evil ! |
Hate Crime
On friday Nobel committee men as much as admmitted they committed a Hate Crime when awarding Obama the prize for no "achievement".
They said they were pleased with their selection because it made them feel good to throw this in the face of Bush. |
I lived in Europe in the 90's. They didn't like us then either. The only time Europe has any use for the United States is when they need our help.

All one needs to do is google nobel peace prize qualifications!!!
Review what one must accomplish to be a candidate. The only conclusion one can reach is.....what did he do to earn their recommendation? He certainly did not get it for being a continuous candidate or perpetual campaigning mode.
He certainly did not get it for his presidency as he was in office less than a month when the nominations were closed. So for most thinking persons around the world the question remains......for what? Some Obama supporters don't seem to get the message...it has nothing to do with being black! or being a Democrat! or being POTUS! It has to do with the reality of the once upon a time high criteria of the prize itself. Seems that has been watered down to allow nebulous nominations. btk |
