China Wok (Grand Traverse). Plus they now deliver.

There is no good Chinese takeout in the Villages

JSR22 12-30-2017 10:56 AM

I 100% agree. They are all terrible.

villagetinker 12-30-2017 11:28 AM

We found the Chinese take out in Grand Traverse plaza to be good to very good. They are next to Flippers pizza.

BoatRatKat 12-30-2017 11:38 AM

The one over in the Lake Deaton shopping center by Rohan. First one my husband has found down here that he's raved about and even I like it and I'm not that big of a fan of Chinese food.

I think it is like pizza. You like the taste of what you ate growing up. Noe of the Chinese food here tastes like :home".

They self-identify as a Chinese Restaurant on their website.

i'm 66 years old and I have never seen a Chinese restaurant commercial on tv. Why is that?

I would call it more Chinese than anything else. They advertise as Asian Fusion. I guess that means all Asian types of dishes. However, we think it is quite good for both dine in and take out. Has the best hot and sour soup in The Villages!

Chatbrat 12-30-2017 02:07 PM

Koyome--nothing comes close-worth the ride even from the south end--call in your order, tell them when you will be by --this way--its not cooling down too much

Probably because most chinese restaurants areindividually owned

kcrazorbackfan 12-30-2017 08:50 PM

China Gourmet at Colony always is fresh and good.

Check their health ratings- gross

ColdNoMore 12-30-2017 09:05 PM

I've heard that a local Chinese restaurant has taken one of the country's famous duck recipes and combined it with a Thanksgiving staple...to honor those in TV who look in empty houses for sale.

They call it...

...'A Peking Tom.'

And your point is? I'm at a point in life where - wait for it, here it comes - I DON'T CARE.

RErmer 12-30-2017 09:47 PM

Koyame (for north-siders) is really good.

Taltarzac725 12-30-2017 10:10 PM

Cheng's was good but no where comparable to Chinese places you would find in San Francisco or Los Angeles but this is the Villages after all. The portions were HUGE. This is in front of Walmart on CR466 as another poster, Chi-Town, pointed out.

Rented a house in Thailand 33 years ago form one of the sisters who owned and ran a Chinese restaurant. We frequented the restaurant multiple times a week, enjoyed the excellent food and became friends with all three sisters. After leaving Thailand we traveled to many areas of the world and across the United States and never found any as good as that. After moving to TV we tried Koyame and were blown away by food which tasted identical to the food we loved in Thailand. We eat in or carry out from Koyame 2-3 times a month and we live near Havana CC.

BTW They will make it hot and spicy for those who like it that way but you have to request it extra spicy or even extra, extra spicy.

I've always been puzzled by the name Koyame. Although it is Japanese, the food is mostly Chinese with a bit if Thai tossed in. I believe that the owners and all of the employees are Chinese as well.

They have the best Chinese food in The Villages. Some of their Thai dishes are OK but stay away from the Pad Thai.

Incidentally, Koyame translates to The Cabin. Still have trouble understanding a Chinese restaurant with a Japanese name.

I recommend Bamboo Bistro to anyone looking for good Asian food, and the feedback has always been highly positive. It's Asian fusion, which includes several different Asian cuisines, the restaurant is very nice, and their takeout food is good too. It's located near Target, across the strip mall from the former Jim's Golf (now Edwin Watts Golf).

Actually, your taste changes as you age.

As you read the posts here, it seems like life is tough in the villages. The INMATES just like to complain.

RE: PIZZA
Try a little salt on it and for me a bit of Oregano.

RE: CHINESE FOOD
Most of what we expect and get at a Chinese restaurant is American created chinese food Chow mein for example was created in CALIFORNIA. Fortune cookies in Brooklyn-if I recall.

I also lived in Morris Cty. My favorite was Westlake in Budd Lake. I also liked The NY tea Garden in Morristown. Henry lamb the owner was a friend of the family.

As we all know, New Jersey is a place with world renown for it's fine cuisine. All restaurants, whether it's pizza or Chinese should be judged by the benchmarks set in New Jersey.:22yikes:

Koyome is ok, at least they use fresh ingredients but their recipes are dumbed down for American tastes. For example, their Kung Pao chicken is bland and pathetic.

ladygolfer123 12-31-2017 02:17 PM

Koyame restaurant is excellent!

Jdmiata 12-31-2017 04:47 PM

China Gourmet in Colony Plaza.

Sue; Great post and absolutely true. Our taste buds fade with age and we need more seasoning to enjoy the food. Wish more restaurants around here got that, or at least provided the condiments at the table.

I initially responded to the OP on Chinese takeout and you two decided to question a response, which is just an opinion, AN OPINION. You know, it really comes down to a person's taste preference; what I like, you probably don't and what you like, i probably don't and you know what? I DON'T CARE.

The person that turned me on to Chinese food would always say “You never see any stray cats around Chinese restaurants” and “Fried rice is made by mixing everything that fell on the floor with rice”! :posting:
