Cane Gardens Breakfast...60 cents charge

What's up with the restaurant at Cane Garden charging .60 cents extra for crispy bacon on the breakfast menu? Never heard of such a thing.

Chatbrat 04-13-2018 11:18 AM

60 cents--time to go to Denny's or Bob Evans--this is why we will never have excellent restaurants in TV

Lol. Takes extra time to cook. Gotta pay the cook for his overtime. [emoji12]

Did you ask them why?

tomwed 04-13-2018 11:29 AM

Maybe if you get it with runny eggs it will be a wash.

I don't understand. If you had limp bacon, there would be no charge?

It is my experience that Cane Garden is run well. So I am prejudiced toward the folks there. Never been to breakfast at Cane Garden.

Tell us what happened. Perhaps we will get mad too. I see that bacon a la carte is $2.99

:loco:As Villagers, do we all have to spend 75 cents on gas to save 60 cents? Or are we allowed to support local (in the bubble) establishments? and :icon_bored:

Really? You just saying this to get the “crazies” worked up?

Yes, it's was even itemized on the receipt. I did not notice it until I got home. Therefore, did not challenge it with server. Not going back....principle!

pqrstar 04-13-2018 01:20 PM

Do you think they would charge extra for a hamburger ordered "well done"?

Chatbrat 04-13-2018 01:23 PM

Most breakfast items, such as bacon, sausages, hash are premade and sit under warming lamps--once something has to be adjusted--it should be an additional charge

Not as bad as then charging me $2 to substitute a couple anchovies for Bacon crumbles on a caesar salad. Both seem more than a bit chintzy to me.

retiredguy123 04-13-2018 01:51 PM

My biggest complaint about breakfast places is that they charge you about $2.60 for a cup of coffee, whether you drink 1 cup or 5 cups. And, they will advertise a low price for a "complete" breakfast, but it never includes coffee. That is not a complete breakfast.

Chatbrat 04-13-2018 02:21 PM

You guys blew it, free coffee any size @ Wawa yesterday & their coffee blows away the best coffee in TV especially the Colombian

Go to Rae Rae's. They have the thickest, crispiest, best-tasting bacon in town. And they don't charge extra for it.

 I got mine. Just wish I would have been in TV to get it and not stuck up north. Although I bet it was less crowded up here in the middle of the day when I got mine. Not as many retirees and a lot more stores around us to go to.

If you get the Wawa app, they also give you other freebies and discounts throughout the year.

jnieman 04-13-2018 02:48 PM

I wonder if they bake their bacon in the oven on sheet pans. Making bacon extra crispy might require they put it on the grill and baby sit it until it gets more crispy or frying separate pieces. Just a guess. Maybe this is to discourage people from ordering it when they hear it is sixty cents extra. I know when I order extra salad dressing and if they tell me it is an extra charge it makes me think twice.

village dreamer 04-13-2018 03:26 PM

so if i order my steak medium rare instead of well done , will my steak be cheaper??:rant-rave::rant-rave:

How about 10% for policeman, firefighters, nurses, etc.

Calling BS on this

justjim 04-13-2018 05:12 PM

Only free Coffee on Thurday’s @ WAWA. Is that relevant to an extra 60 cent charge for crisp bacon? That’s how I always order my bacon “crisp” - - never charged extra and will send it back if not served the way I order it.

fw102807 04-13-2018 05:32 PM

Are we really having this discussion over 60 cents?

rivaridger1 04-13-2018 05:36 PM

One of the earlier posters is correct ---- $ 0.70 for a well done steak and maybe $ 0.30 less for rare. Fried egg over easy, how about $0.10 less ? Crispy hash browns, lets upcharge $ 0.25 since they take longer to cook.

Surcharging for crisp bacon simply tells me the restaurant managers are novices or Harvard MBA(s). Both are equally likely to fail at business which requires a lot of personal attention to really succeed.

An establishment which " bills " itself as a " country club " surcharging for " crisp bacon " ? Only in The Villages.

karostay 04-13-2018 07:26 PM

I asked for my toast burnt.,It was .25 extra !

I don't even like bacon. I ask them to leave it off but I still have to pay for it.

JoMar 04-13-2018 09:41 PM

Darells, Rae Rae's, Keke's......no additional charge for crisp :)

barnard2204 04-13-2018 10:15 PM

No way that is why we go to restaurants it ain't fast food

JC419 04-14-2018 06:59 PM

Was at Cane Garden today for breakfast and didn’t see anything on the menu about a charge for extra crispy bacon. Breakfast was great as always.

tomwed 04-14-2018 07:09 PM

As a direct result of this thread, Pork Belly Futures bottomed out yesterday. Let's all hope their legs get longer.

Maybe we can all chip in 60 cents

manaboutown 04-14-2018 07:57 PM

Makin’ bacon the old fashioned way?

blueash 04-15-2018 07:15 AM

Ok, I apologize in advance. This discussion is not over 60 cents. According to the original post it is over 6 tenths of a penny as quite clearly it says
Quote:

.60 cents
This is a common mistake. For a long time the menu at a local establishment noted a charge of .99 cents for each pizza topping. "Topping's .99 cents each", thus earning the hard to obtain double award for a math and apostrophe error conjunction.

Next visit to Walmart sneak a look at the news rack for the Daily Sun. Weekday issues are .50 cents. I guess you get two for a penny.

Ashamed

I am actually ashamed to write this but feel duty bound to report the point. We were out of town last Wed. (Jacksonville) and were early for an appointment at Mayo Clinic so we looked for a place to get something to eat at around 1PM. We saw a "Dennys" and decided what the heck lets get a bite there. We both ordered a Breakfast type lunch and it was terrific. I would go back as it was reasonable and good basic food. Enough said.!!:mornincoffee:

Perhaps I got this wrong. How is their bacon generally served?

According to this, the chef at Cane Garden's name is Luis Santiago. This gives his background and also the restaurant's phone number. I bet there is some explanation if you would call.

Cane Garden The Villages

Always liked Cane Garden but I think I'll be eating there with a whole new level of enjoyment after reading that!

Thanks, Gracie, for the share on the chef's background.

But, but wait, doesn't that make too much sense to actually ask why?
