Comcast vs CenturyLink

Neither of these company's customer service are worth a hoot. Any other choices? We only need internet.

I don’t agree with that statement. I’ve had nothing but excellent customer service with Comcast. From the tech’s, to their phone support, and the convenience of the new store location in Lady Lake.

I agree. I have not had any service problems with Comcast. I think they offer a high speed (150 mbps) internet service, which include about 10 basic cable channels for about $50 per month.

I know you stated about not wanting century link / comcast .. and I agreed until about 10 mos. ago when I changed over to centurylink's price for life.. I now get internet only 80mbps for $45 a month.. and have had no problems and really like the fact that every year I don't have to renegotiate prices.. I live at the north end near Lopez

7 years Comcast subscriber Comcast has had issues in the past and has worked through them Comcast goes the extra distance

Comcast..another vote for Comcast.

I have been a Comcast customer for 10 years and whenever I had a problem, which is seldom, they have fixed it immediately. Never lost TV during last year's hurricane. I do have an issue when they raise my rates, so I have to use my negotiating skills. Always works out. I also have their high speed internet and it is great.

I have an AT&T wireless mi-fi. Fits in my pocket and works anywhere in the country. It is rechargeable, and smaller than a pack of smokes. Verizon has a similar unit.

I haven't moved into my new house yet and I already despise Comcast.

A couple of weeks ago I set up all my new utilities to start on Oct. 30 (the day we close). The next day I find out that when they set up my new account they turned off the seller's existing service and they had to spend hours on the phone getting it straightened out.

A week later I get a bill in email. I'm wondering why I got a bill since my service won't be starting up for weeks, so I call and find out that when they turned the seller's service back on they turned it on in MY NAME. They say in order to fix things they have to delete my account and create a new one. They assure me that nothing they are doing is going to impact the seller's existing service.

The next day I find out that ... you guessed it ... they did, in fact, turn off the seller's service again.

I shudder to think what is going to happen when I get in the house and try to set up my router and Tivos.

More than likely your router and Tivo's will work just fine.

... assuming I have service. I don't really trust them to turn it on when requested. The incompetence so far is mindboggling.

Would be nice if someone answered your question. I'll repeat it. Are there any alternatives for just internet to Comcast or Century Link?

I've got Xfinity coming on Wednesday..we'll see..

Where do you live? If you are south of 466a then Spectrum is another option. You could also use cellular data via the cell phone companies. You would need to look into the cost and bandwidth.

Comcast has provided excellent service, including customer service. A strong vote for them!

Don't you need AT&T cellular (mobile phone) service in order to use AT&T's mobile wi-fi?

Nope, the mi-fi unit itself has it's own phone #, you just can't make or receive calls.

This is definitely off the subject but I figured people on this thread may think about streaming their TV service. We picked YouTubeTV and were happy with it until last night when several shows which my wife loves were zapped out because YouTube went down. The best part is there is no customer service number THAT I COULD FIND where someone answered. Baseball Playoffs were affected. Not good.

I'm not going to give up yet as we are pioneers. I did change to Comcast before I started streaming. Other than the problem mentioned its been very good.

arbajeda 10-17-2018 08:53 AM

Go in person to the Xfinity service center just off Rolling Acres Road at US441. I know it's a PITA but you will only have to do it once. They will get you set up correctly. We had issues moving across country and their phone support is more than worthless. They were more interested in selling than getting my service corrected. The folks in the store made some phone calls and everything has been perfect since.

I just lost the Comcast internet service again for about 30 minutes this morning, but I did not lose their cable TV service. Something to think about when you switch to streaming TV. I don't know why this happens several times a week because both Comcast services come to my house through the same black coax cable.

I just switched back to Comcast for TV. I have had their internet for years as it is the most reliable and fastest. If you are thinking about Comcast and have questions I met the area rep Ben who lives very close to The Villages and he is most helpful in explaining all service plans. He also helped me with an issue and resolved it quickly.
352-4607391 is his work number and he loves helping

I have been having trouble w/Comcast all summer. I put my service on the seasonal plan in April, just like the past 5 years. Somehow they didn't put me on seasonal, but canceled my account. So frustrating a summer of so many calls with still no results. Today I will call Ben.
