Novelty of the Chop House

Its been a while since the Chop House has opened, wondering who has become a frequent flyer since the novelty of a new restaurant has worn thin

Kahuna32162 10-14-2019 11:53 AM

We went on Saturday and sat out on the patio, beautiful night, great service and great food.

skip0358 10-14-2019 12:33 PM

Been twice no problems no complaints!

JSR22 10-14-2019 01:34 PM

Have had lunch and dinner there 8 times. Food an service always have been great.

hoopsterdad 10-14-2019 01:51 PM

went end of sept. for dinner. very good, sat at table. decided to try bar oct 7th. a couple of beers and sandwiches, over $50. looked at menu , prices for entrees went up oct. 1st. pork ribeye in sept. $17.90 now almost $23.00. still a good go to for a special occasion, did not care to pay $50 for bar. not complaining just a heads up.

It's nice to finally have another restaurant in TV where the food and service is great and consistent, The other restaurant is Blue Fin. Just my opinion...

100% agree!

Still have to go out of town for a traditional chop house, but it is the best offering in The Villages. Have been there twice for dinner with a mixed but overall favorable review.

Good for them! Letting their staff spend Thanksgiving with their families.

Both restaurants are owned and run by the FMK group, they know how to do it right.

How are their burgers?

tophcfa 10-15-2019 08:01 AM

I still want to try the restaurant, here is hoping the waiting lines will shrink as the novelty wears off. Have tried to eat there three times, each time we went the VkI for sushi instead because he wait line was way too long.

You can make a reservation on their website for up to 4. Five or more you need to call for a res.

Thanks for the information, I was not aware you could make a reservation. I wish all restaurants would allow reservations. I understand that some people never show up and it costs the restaurant valuable business. I would be in favor of requiring a deposit of something like $50 for two, $100 for four, etc..., to make a reservation. The deposit would be non-refundable if the party was a no show and did not cancel within a pre-determined time period. That should solve the no show problem.

Deposit for res

I 100% agree with you! Additionally, you can make a reservation for BlueFin on their website.

Good burger but nothing special. Can get same quality at multiple other establishments for half the price.

Friend had their "French dip". Not impressed. Not much meat and not comparable to France dip at City Fire.

We have been there twice and enjoyed it both times. Price to value is just OK, (better options off campus) but am glad that the Villages finally has a decent place to eat that I can go to in a golf cart. Service was great both times. We will return.

You can find all the restaurants in The Villages that take reservations on The Villages Gourmet Club website HERE.
Just pull down 3a to "In The Villages" and pull down 4a to "Has a Reservation Policy". Then hit "Search".
I use this all the time.
You may be surprised to find out that if you call just 1 hour prior to arriving, there may be an opening due to a last minute cancellation.
Skip

I just called The Chop House in LSL and was told they are open Thanksgiving Day. They will open at 11:00am but they are not sure what time they will be closing.

They are taking reservations for Thanksgiving Day.

Here I am. Chateaubriand, not too good. What do I know though? I'm a Culver's guy. :1rotfl: It was so bad they get no second chance unless my wife wants to go. For me, I wouldn't go even if it was for free! :boom:

JSR22 11-04-2019 07:50 PM

Culvers?

Culvers vs Chop House you are joking? We have eaten at Chop House a dozen times and the food and service have been excellent. Went to Culvers once and the food was inedible and will never ever go back.

Who did you take when you ordered the Chateaubriand?

Of course, I'm joking, the place was nice and the waiter was fine just the meal was not so good. :1rotfl: I was making a point about the meal is all.

I really, really didn't like the food! I suffered in silence as the gang with me was enjoying their meals. WHATAREYOUGONNADO?

It just wasn't good. That was my point. I didn't go into a rave about how terrible it was. I try to be fair. Maybe it was just a bad piece of meat. No more for me. Never even told the wife cause she loved whatever she had. :ohdear: And of course I took my wifey!

They don't have Chateaubriand at Culvers or Wawa! :1rotfl:

Chateaubriand is usually a meal for two anytime I have ever seen it on a restaurant menu. Is that the case at The Chop House? If yes, who shared the Chateaubriand with you?

Chatbrat 11-05-2019 06:45 AM

Nucky-I know you're from NJ--Did you ever eat @Sammy's Ye Old Cider Mill, Mendham?--Went to their website the other day-reminded of what a GREAT restaurant entrees should look like--NO steaks in any Villages restaurants for me, too fish yes !!!

Nope, it was 4 pieces. I hid one of the pieces under the mashed potatoes :1rotfl: I thought and that got pointed out by the waiter. I got shamed into finishing the last piece. The portion was for one person and the size of the portion was proper.

Never made it past N.Y. Tea Garden in Morristown. I heard the Cider Mill was great though.

Nothing to get excited about, pretty bland. The wife and I had a burger craving a couple weeks ago and we were in the area so figured why not try them out. Very disappointing and expensive. I've had much, much better burgers at Cheddars in Ocala.

Chatbrat 11-05-2019 11:18 AM

Best burgers according to the Admiral & she's a burger aficionado----the new GLENVIEW--owned by the same team that owns Legacy,Havana and Red Sauce

Been to the Chop House a couple of times and didn't see Chateaubriand on the menu.

Mrs. Town ordered the 5 0z. filet mignon and it was more of a remnant than a cut. Not good. The 9 oz. I had was delicious. The second time there we both had the 9 oz. Try that size next time; you'll be happy.

Sorry, Chi. This one was One and Done! I get it. Lots of people like the place. That's great. I just gave my opinion and that's that. I'd go to The Finster every time instead!

Thanks for the tip though.
