Cabin Fever

I belong to several local social media sites and it seems many of the folks are experiencing "cabin fever". I get it as it's not fun to have our activities interrupted. It's frustrating at least. That said I've been reading where people take a ride and have observed folks congregating and doing what was usual activities before this virus thing hit. I don't know this 1st hand as I've stayed home, except to get to the store (that's infrequently) to pick up groceries so we can eat. Before this whole thing, I was pretty much hunkered down anyway, due to some health issues. I don't get it...why people can't follow directions and stay in like the rest of us. By not complying they may be extending this in-activity that's affecting the whole of our community, state and nation (world actually). The medical people are placing their lives on the line and working hard/long hours. The service people (of the businesses still open) are doing the same. I read comments on how citizens are treating one another and these people as well. I don't get "that" part of it. Let's all just pull together and support one another. I had a friend comment yesterday on "how in a hundred years....what we're going through won't make a difference." Soon...this too shall pass and we can get back to our lives.

No responses....thoughts re: cabin fever and no-one complying. Have a news-show on re: beach closures that probably won't happen on the weekend. Governor is going to have check-points along the border to ward off folks coming from Louisiana. Guess we could have a big up-surge of virus-related illnesses.

Short of Martial Law and curfews there isn't much the authorities can do about the problem.

LOL good one! :coolsmiley:

I am painting, doing puzzles, have the company of two lovely people but still all of the stressful news is very hard to take and when people say "turn off the news"...… I wonder how that is possible. It is important to keep informed to protect not only our family, but everyone. A friend showed pictures of a funeral procession and remembrance here in The Villages, where a group honored a neighbor who had died by having a golf cart procession and holding signs. She said there was no contact, distance was kept and it was hard not to hug people. I don't think this person died due to Covid-19. Just saying that most people are doing everything they can to follow rules and most of us still care about each other. Most Villagers are good people.

kcrazorbackfan 03-27-2020 07:22 PM

Unfortunately, one of the biggest downsides to this cabin fever is the dramatic rise in the cases of domestic abuse throughout the country and the biggest culprit is men.

Guys, think before you do something that some of you will regret the rest of your life.

One good thing about staying home is I'm losing weight--not venturing into Wawa's, for their great breakfast sandwiches

jebartle 03-28-2020 06:37 AM

House is so sterile after this virus, it could be converted to ICU. All dust bunnies corraled, hair-ball produced by my furry friend are minimal. Only scary time is trip to grocery store, yipsters, welcome staying at home after last trip, peeps getting angry at folks over little things.

rustyp 03-28-2020 06:41 AM

Captain's Log Day 13 - Saturday - Big night planned for tonight. I am putting a bottle of libation in each room of the house. I'm going on a pub crawl.

I'm not sure about that "losing weight" thingy. Too much time now to cook, bake and try new recipes (most of which are dinner for 4). Too many leftovers! Then there are the Breakfast treats that somehow have managed to sneak into the grocery cart (latest were Apple Fritters, package of 10)! Lunch yesterday was Spaghetti (we usually have a quick sandwich and maybe a few chips or Salad). I think I will pack away the WW Scale until after this Virus passes! I don't think evening rides in the Golf cart count as exercise!

I think it was because there are so many who keep saying that Covid-19 is no more serious than the flu we encountered most years in the past...and the bitterness among friends about politics. I missed you all. It has been close to a month now since I could communicate with you on this forum.

And of course the debate about the main stream media. That is wearing too.

Good to see you're back GG. SO agree with you. I like to keep up with the Forum, but it sure does get irritating at times. Of course everyone has a right to their opinion - but it is JUST that - THEIR opinion.

When it becomes "HOW CAN YOU THINK THAT?" Or "YOU"RE JUST PLAIN WRONG". You catch the drift. I often wonder, would folks (behind that keyboard) say those things face-to-face, 6' apart. There is no doubt if we opened a Thread with "It's a beautiful day out there", some would reply..." No! There's a cloud".

So, I like to be informed, but sometimes on ToTV - I mumble...grrrrrr.

That's my opinion.

Madelaine Amee 03-28-2020 04:56 PM

Cabin Fever - yes, we both have it. He does better than me, he spends hours weeding the garden and then cannot straighten up, but the garden looks GREAT.

I get up every morning and look at all the jobs I should be doing and never get to, and when this mess is all over and done with I am going to be so p....d with myself for not doing what I could when I didn't have anything else to do.

I am sick to death of the continual bickering on TV, all the channels are constantly trying to goad people into disagreements. We all know there have been mistakes in the handling of this, but suck it up and just get us what we need ....... and that is tests. Yes, I want a test, I want to know if I have it or whether this social distancing has worked. I want to see the whole country tested so that we can have an approximation of how long this might last. Right now all we keep hearing is that it has spread to more and more States.

I am also sick to death of all the bickering and downright nasty snarky remarks being made on TOTV. There was an innocent thread started about the Yard Waste pickup and where it goes, someone even went to the trouble of making a nasty snarky remark about that. Get a life people, we are supposed to be in this together not tearing each other apart.

Also, and this is BIG .... do not try to talk politics to me. I don't care which party you belong to, I never have and I never will and I don't want you ramming politics down my throat. It is your right to believe whatever you want, and it is mine to do the same. You are never going to change my mind, so don't waste both our lives arguing about it.

So, in a nut shell .......... yes I have cabin fever, big time and I cannot wait for things to get back to normal.

Nucky 03-28-2020 07:00 PM

I agree with Amee. I miss just floating from here to there with no agenda and stopping for a little snack and watching the Sunset on Lake Sumter. If we do the rite thing it will all be ours again soon. We go to get the mail late at night in the Golf Cart but I'm gonna stop that cause just in case we break down I don't wanna call out Kart Aide that late at night. Plus how do you get back home? If I was the Kart Aide guy I wouldn't give anybody a courtesy ride under these conditions.

My wife just got word that the Mom of one of the kids from her Day Care in N.J. has the Virus. She is a teacher herself. What a heartbreaker.

O.K. there Captain's Log The Villages. So far Mr. Monte Hall of Musica I'll take Door #1. STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN - Flashmob - LEGENDADO PORTUGUES - INGLES - YouTube. It's the Portuguese angle to a beautiful song that appeals to me the most. Every Portuguese person in our lives have been NOTHING but PERFECT. Thank's rustyp.

I wish I could bring you all with me to share a meal at three restaurants in Newark N.J. in an area called DownNeck. Forno's of Spain, Seabra's, Iberia-Either One. Best Portuguese Food with atmosphere that is unmatched. Not elegant just comfortable and modest. What a nice Song, what a Great Memory. Obrigado

I have been reorganizing my tools. I concluded that I would need four pairs of hands to simultaneously use every 9/16" wrench I have, six pair of hands for the 1/2", and so on. That epiphany pales when I look at my screwdriver collection. I have tools whose function I cannot imagine, some of which I made myself. I have also been examining my key collection..you know the keys whose purpose I no longer know but am afraid to get rid of?

I have been reading your posts for years. Is this Paul from MVP? I know he's from Louisiana and New York and from your posts I get that feeling.

No Sir. I grew up in the Gulf South...bounced along the Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana coast until joining the military. My entire New York experience amounts to three days transversing the state in a motorhome plus numerous layovers at Kennedy.

I have a friend who I work out with at MVP and he worked in Lousiana for many years and he's a Saints fan, but he's originally from NY and also a Giants fan. I thought you maybe him.
