" Windchimes " ugh !

Windchimes IMO would be a suitable a replacement for " Waterboarding " whoever came up with this invention must have had a sadistic side.

They should all come with earplugs.

Totally agree with you. Most annoying sounds.

retiredguy123 04-11-2020 10:53 AM

They should be banned in The Villages. But, unfortunately, the noise restrictions in the covenants do not seem to restrict them in any way. So, if your neighbor wants to hang 10 wind chimes around their house, there is nothing you can do about it.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 04-11-2020 10:58 AM

I love wind chimes. I would love it if every house in The Villages had them.

Love hearing them for the first 30 seconds. After that want to rip them off a neighbors' wall. Very very inconsiderate to have them ringing constantly.

Already discussed to death here: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ghlight=chimes

Get a continual loop of "Its a Small World" and play it when you're not at home thru a speaker in your soffit--your neighbor with the wind chimes might get the hint--or go totally nuts

I think there is something you can do about it. Politely inform your neighbor it bothers you. Strangely that might work.

karostay 04-11-2020 12:09 PM

Much rather hear a wind chime than smell a neighbors cigar or hear a barking dog

I have always wanted to hang a windchime, but my husband has always said "absolutely not", it is a disturbance to the neighbors and we are NOT going to do that..... probably the only time I ever listened to him, lol. Glad now that I didn't here in TV because I have a Koi pond with a waterfall and I have a couple neighbors who really complained about the "noise" from the waterfall. The waterfall is about 4-5" high, depending on the water level in the pond. Claimed they had to buy a "sound machine" and heavy draperies to "drown out the noise".

I would probably also be a neighbor who complained about a waterfall. If you live close together, you should not install anything that allows noise to travel to your neighbor's property. It is inconsiderate.

Cigars go out. Dogs stop barking. Those infernal wind chimes go off 24/7/365.

Veiragirl 04-11-2020 04:18 PM

Or hear a screaming grandkid

JSR22 04-11-2020 04:47 PM

I was sitting by my pool reading today. I heard wind chimes and I enjoyed listening to them.

Chatbrat 04-11-2020 04:54 PM

Just liker rapp music, if it floats your boat go with it

vintageogauge 04-11-2020 05:04 PM

I hate them. In 2007 we rented a home in Sunset Pointe for Feb. and March, when we arrived the first thing I noticed was the neighbor had a half dozen wind chimes right outside the master bedroom. Early morning Feb., 2, 2007 the tornado came through, problem solved. That was a little drastic and felt bad for all the people that suffered major damage on our street.

:1rotfl: Love it! Great idea. Like the noise torture the armed forces sometimes used. We took our kids to Disney the year after it opened and when I walked out of that "ride" I was ready to scream. They loved it and we had to go 2 more times (ahhh, the days of the A, B,C D, E tickets) . From what I understand it's still the same but they are supposedly "updating" it. Every time we go now my wife dares me to take it again.

Or, the Barry Manilow greatest hits cd.

kcrazorbackfan 04-11-2020 06:13 PM

Really, folks? Complaining about wind chimes?

Just when you thought you’ve seen every complaint imaginable on TOTV, up pops this....

Velvet 04-11-2020 06:24 PM

Have a wonderful sound system which we play at 5% volume usually. Can loop “It’s raining tacos” at a higher volume. Used in Hawaii to disperse the homeless from around Waikiki.
(So far the only thing that makes noise by the lanai are the birds and the crickets. Hope it stays that way.)

600th Photo Sq 04-11-2020 07:49 PM

For me natural sounds are more soothing than an ' Artificial " idea that somehow someone came up with this crazy idea that windchimes would be who knows what. Has to be out of the Hippie scene everything cool, anti everything.

Totally Crazy, Insane, .

Meanwhile ….. I solve the nuisance my...………………… WAY

Or the warnings entering or exiting the rides with " The platform is moving at the same speed as the carriage". You hear it in your sleep at the end of the day.

Absolutely! Nothing worse than a yapping rat on the neighbor's lanai

Quality wind chimes are tuned lower and are quieter and more soothing. Unfortunately, too many cheap wind chimes will drive anybody nuts.

Agree. They should be classified the same as lawn ornaments... not allowed.

I use to complain cause I played pickleball, tennis, and shot billiards everyday. Thought I was working again. The old saying; “don’t miss something till it’s GONE:MOJE_whot:

I'm not complaining about wind chimes because none of my neighbors are inconsiderate and I don't have to listen to chimes every time there is a breeze. I would most definitely speak to the offender if I did have wind chimes within ear shot of our home. IMHO, wind chimes are noise no matter how beautiful a sound they make. It is just that.....a sound that should not be there.

JudyLife 04-12-2020 05:55 AM

Same here, love em. Some people are just cranky for the sake of being cranky!!

I SO agree with you. Our neighbor used to have them and the clanging was constant. Finally went over and had a polite conversation and they took them down. Seems their hearing was so bad they never even really heard them!

jane032657 04-12-2020 06:57 AM

I do not like seeing political flags flying when I drive down the street or take a walk. I do not like seeing religious symbols in people's front yards, as I am not living in a place of worship. But too bad for me. People have the right to have those things it seems. If you choose to live in a community where your houses are stacked on top of each other, then you have to live with what your neighbors choose to do within the allowed covenants. Your rights end at your property line. For better or worse. Loud conversations, wind chimes, flags waving, smoking, parties, music, BBQ's, dogs, landscaping design, the list goes on. People buy their homes and live the same as they lived elsewhere. You do not get to choose your neighbors and they did not get to choose you.

Denvercane 04-12-2020 07:00 AM

Buttercups and snowflakes. Wear ear plugs, walk a different direction. The wind can't be blowing that hard. Is your life that small and delicate? How about those loud mouth people that talk like the person is 20 feet away. Americas "friendly" community. HA HA
