Governor Ron DeSantis Calls Florida ‘God’s Waiting Room’ For Seniors
Please post your ONE WORD reaction to our Governor’s true feeling about senior citizens, aka our entire community.

Did you mean The Villages? I don't recall him saying that but it is often said about communities of older people. |
Yes...but there are lots of younger people in Florida that take offense at that.....and not a good thing to say when the states relies on tourism for much of its coffers.

How about were are frogs, here till we croak?

The phrase has been used in the past, since *I* was a kid and my grandmother lived in Century Village. Locals (people who actually were born and raised in Florida) considered Florida the place where old people go to die.

I grew up in St. Petersburg, I remember Johnny Carson made a joke about St. Pete one time in his monologue. He called St. Petersburg 'Gods Waiting Room' on national TV. At the time I was in my 20's and thought it was accurate. St. Pete was even known for it's green benches along the streets of downtown, usually full of seniors. Now the city has removed most of them to change their image to a young city on the move.

Banal - and oversimplified. Seniors have never been more open to embracing the many faces of life.

There is a town in UK called Sidmouth in Devon.
To the best of my knowledge, locals have been calling the place Gods waiting room for decades. So many retire there. |
Its true! What is the problem?

What's your point? It doesn't take a PhD to see the article is a political hit piece on the governor who had the temerity to compare our state's more favorable record in contrast to New York's.
If you've been here any length of time you will hear Villagers refer to themselves as "Q-tips" and "frogs." The former refers to the color of their hair (although hair salons are quite plentiful). The latter, they're here until they croak. |
