Roger Goodell Says the NFL Was Wrong

Are the recent weeks of protest making a difference? Roger Goodell has now apologized and said the league was "wrong for not listening" to players who knelt during the national anthem in protest of police brutality" and in his address, he encouraged all
athletes to speak out and peacefully protest.

Although Goodell did not directly apologize to Colin Kaeperick who was previously ostracized for kneeling, Goodell's statement is significant as the focus of the NFL seems to be moving toward social justice and policing issues.

Once the games resume, it will be interesting to note which players and how many of them will be kneeling. If there is a significant number, will there be less people watching their favorite teams? Apparently, the league doesn't think so or doesn't care very much.

Topspinmo 06-08-2020 12:18 PM

I quit watching pro football 20 years ago. Could care less what NFL does.

John_W 06-08-2020 12:19 PM

I'll save $200 by not my renewing my NFL Sunday Ticket with Directv for the tenth year in a row. In which case, good-bye Directv. I'll have Sundays free to do other things!!

Marvic 1 06-08-2020 12:25 PM

Watch them for free, everybody and their Mother are doing it...

Besides a jail-break Firestick, which is illegal, what other ways besides NFL Sunday Ticket can you watch all 13 games every Sunday?

photo1902 06-08-2020 12:33 PM

Cannot wait for the season to start!

npwalters 06-08-2020 12:36 PM

If NFL players start kneeling again I will do the same as I did 2 years ago.....turn it off.

davem4616 06-08-2020 05:02 PM

Roger is just playing the political card....he doesn't really give a damn about anything but his own personal power and his salary

When he didn't show up in Foxboro for the opening game the following year, like he always had the year after the Patriots won the Super Bowl that said it all

IMHO, he's nothing but a power drunk jerk...that is allowed to stay in his job because he sucks up to the owners and they don't really care what he does, because they are making a ton of $$$$ anyway you slice it

Stu from NYC 06-08-2020 05:57 PM

Let the ones he refuse to stand for our national anthem stay in the locker room.

No interest in players opinions on anything other than the game they play.

There’s nothing illegal about “jail-breaking” a Firestick. Please cite your source where you claim it is.

Roger Goodell lost 100% of all respect a long time ago, at least with anyone who can differentiate clear and obvious right from wrong. After the way he fabricated deflate gate, in his efforts of defamation of the character of Tom Brady, nothing Goodell does holds any legitimacy whatsoever.

Since AT&T bought Directv four years ago, it has lost 5 millions subscribers. Service is still good, I guess that Special Sports Bundle is a computer type deal. With NFL Sunday I also have the computer access included, although I never use it. I let my neighbor watch his Eagles games on his computer and then he got a Fire Stick at Market of Marion and he gets the local Philly channels.

Hacking or Jailbreaking Amazon Fire Stick is not illegal. No one is going to sue you for jailbreaking your Fire Stick. Installing Kodi or any other such FireStick apps are also not illegal. However, if you access copyright content (HBO, NFL Network, Golf Channel, Local channels in another market, etc) without paying a copyright or access fee is illegal, and then you can be very much in trouble with your government or your ISP. It is very much like torrenting. While torrents are itself not illegal but copyrighted content is.

NFL Stance On Protesting

Money, Money, Money, Its the Money, its a rich mans world.......
I quit watching the NFL long ago. They are spoiled brats and over paid. That protest game works both ways, no fans, no money. no players salaries. Works for me. If the NFL was disbanded the world would still turn on its axis.

sam&rog 06-09-2020 04:57 AM

Keep the cameras off the players during the National Anthem. End of story.

stadry 06-09-2020 05:31 AM

maybe 20 yrs ago, was listening to imus on the drive-in to the shop - warner wolf was reporting on sports back then,,, imus asked about the cowboy's upcoming season,,, wolf's reply was probably '10 & 6 !'
back then, cowboys were in a slump - imus was surprised & ask'd ' 10 & 6 ?'
wolf's answer - '10 arrests, 6 convictions !'
i turned off pro sports & haven't missed them !

coalminer 06-09-2020 05:59 AM

Kneeling has always been a show of respect and admiration until this instance when Colin wanted to bring attention to police brutality. If his cause was to bring attention to abortion or going to church, I wonder how many of these ultra patriotic would have surfaced.

iht2209 06-09-2020 06:08 AM

Hmmmm your description sounds similar to another person. Hmmm I can’t put my finger on who it is.
Hmmmm 🤔

A very interesting question.

While no one can say for sure, since it will never happen...I have my own opinion as to the answer.

fastboat 06-09-2020 07:06 AM

So the NFL is bowing once again to the BLM group. Watch, all the networks will no longer start coverage 'til after the National Anthem has been played and the players have a chance to get up off they knee.

sipops 06-09-2020 07:21 AM

I will never know the answer to that, I stopped watching the day Kaeppernak took the knee and have not seen one play since. No not even the Superbowls, and I don't miss it at all.

If I’m not mistaken I believe you’re calling him a capitalist. Ethics are in the eye of the beholders bank account.

Goodell and the NFL needs to stay out of politics.

Goodell, NFL Owners and Players need to stay out of politics and be bipartisan, if they want fans to support their teams. Our Country is over wrought with politics from those living in the DC, Hollywood bubble.

For $40 million a year with bonus, he wants the games to proceed.

As ESPN's Adam Schefter reported, Goodell made a base salary of $4 million in 2019 in what is part of the five-year contract that could be worth as much as $200 million if a number of incentives are met.

merrymini 06-09-2020 09:19 AM

This guy is a spineless idiot. Hit them in the wallet.

kkeennyy 06-09-2020 09:28 AM

Goodell is a White Sissy, Sissy, Sissy Bowing down to the Blacks. What about the Men who died defending our Freedom and the American way of life {FREEDOM} and the FLAG of The USE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

charlieo1126@gmail.com 06-09-2020 09:30 AM

The NFL has always been a big booster of the US Military, all during the complaints about kneeling they kept up that honor and military personal were still coming to games . From the very beginning it was made clear that this was no disrespect for flag, but a plea for social justice . Many people took the message to heart by donating time and money to causes that were helping young men and woman .who knows maybe more will carry on the he message of peaceful demonstrators who are marching now. This multi tour airborne combat vet will keep his NFL ticket and if people don’t understand about peaceful protest, try reading up on Martin Luther King

Protesting for rights and kneeling while the National Anthem is played are two different subjects. Roger made yet another cow towing remark in apologizing

charlieo1126@gmail.com 06-09-2020 09:51 AM

You bring attention to an important issue peacefully by any means necessary

elenG 06-09-2020 10:01 AM

When are people going to get it? This is a football game! Do your protesting somewhere else! For those who didn’t know this looks like disrespecting the American flag! Wrong place buddy. There’s a time and place and it’s not at a game!!

That is your right and it will be your loss. Kneeling is a respectful activity (think church) and was never about the flag or the military.

Hogfan55 06-09-2020 11:16 AM

If the NFL or NBA were playing in my front yard I would pull the curtains. I’m tired of sports being hijacked by politics. It used to be one of the few things I could do to avoid the controversies of the world and just enjoy the spirit of competition but those days are over I guess.

Bellavita 06-09-2020 12:36 PM

taking a knee was not to disgrace the flag it was a protest. I always found it odd that taking a knee was dishonoring the flag, when we kneel to pray. To me it is the most honoring thing, in any case it was about Police injustice. White people just haven't felt it, like people of color do. They are profiled it is a proven fact. I will be watching NFL with glee as I have never stopped, I understood what the protest was about. Why don't you educate yourself and read , DEVIL IN THE GROVE, about Lake County Sherriff Willis V. McCall who was in office from 1944-1972 and he killed 2 young black men in cold murder in 1951. Can you imagine if we had cell phones back then? WE watched George Floyd die and now you should be awoke, if your not... your not paying attention or you are a psychopath.

Rosebud1949 06-09-2020 12:50 PM

Anthem time is NOT THE TIME TO PROTEST.. whatever the reason. Stay in the locker room if you cannot behave during its playing. You are an American Citizen, , you are being PAID to play.. that is why you are there.... NOT TO PROTEST.. do that after the game or outside the stadium. The OWNERS MUST take some of the blame here.. but yet again it is about the ALMIGHTY $$$$$$$$$$$ and not common decency SHAME ON THEM
