How About a Daily Posting Limit?

How about placing a limit on how many times a person can post in one day?

People would have to prioritize what they really feel is important and use their limited posts to convey that message. It would also cut down on the incessant bickering that we have going on right now.

We would also see far fewer wasted posts such as: Yep, Nailed It, Wow! I agree, etc.. That's what the Mods installed the "Thanks" function for.

As far as how many posts a day is appropriate? Maybe 15? Maybe more? Maybe less?

I know this site is monetarily driven by advertising and the more clicks they get the more they get paid. But if the current toxic atmosphere we're in right now were toned down maybe people would start coming back to the site and actually increase its traffic..

Great idea. Couple it with an interlock breath analyzer for the evening and late night crowd.

Have to agree the mood of the board has changed. Way too many veiled political posts are being left to stand.

I fell that limiting anyone's ability to express themselves to be offensive. As long as posters are 'playing by the rules' let them 'speak'! If a post is breaking a rule or rules - report the post and let a Mod/Admin make that call.

I certainly meant no offense. But don't you find it tiresome when someone states the same opinion ad nauseum up to 50 times a day? Heck, even if I agree with their position it gets old.

But my main focus was to try and reduce the toxic atmosphere we have right now. Right now this site is operating in the same vein as the old Political Forum..

It's the same Vein because it's the same. Ah, forget it! Almost got me. :1rotfl: Almost broke a rule. :)

I have to admit I feel pretty proud. :)

Nobody HAS to read all the posts. I drop in and out during the day when I have down time. I know the posters I don't want to hear from, I avoid their posts. I think it is a good thing to have chat boards like this, allows some of the over the top people to get it off their minds.

Excellent advice. Apparently some people this there is a requirement to read each post.

Chi-Town 06-09-2020 03:58 PM

Some posters would be better off on twitter with their endless back and forth chatter. I like the 15 limit and not 15 per thread.

The eliminating of the political forum wound up punishing the majority because of a few.

My vote is to reign in the few to reduce the toxic posting. They are readily recognized and easy to curtail.

Let's have the majority win one for a change!!

Gonna need help from you know who. And it’s more than a few!

I am new here and lately post more than most. Have nothing much to do during the day so find the various posts of interest and have learned pretty much which are interesting and informative to me and which to skip over.

Would think that when things return to normal most of us will have other ways to amuse ourselves.

I like the idea. Need to clear out the political discussion that does nothing.

Halibut 06-10-2020 01:52 AM

Another discussion board I'm on has a rule that if others can deduce your political views from a comment, it's considered to be political and deleted. It's a more narrowly focused entertainment site (movies / TV / music / books), but on the whole, I appreciate strict moderation.

If there are folks here who often have posts deleted or are given other penalties, perhaps a good examination of conscience is needed. It should not be difficult to obey a few rules, but this thread is proof that some cannot stop themselves from slinging mud directly at other posters.

Henryfrakl 06-10-2020 05:04 AM

I barely go on the site , because it’s become a personal blog for a few . Kind of funny when some have a comment and expertise on everything. Very sad

:agree: I just read the titles and skip most of the threads because I know most of them are just going to be nasty.

Good morning ........ well, against my better judgement, and because it is so damned humid, I decided to read through this thread from beginning to end. My conclusion is that the great majority of you posting on this board are allowing just ONE poster to drive you all crazy. The majority of you are behaving rather like annoying children who are intent on having the last word. I presume most of you have lead productive lives in various ways, but now in your near dotage you are behaving like children. This particular poster is able to get a "rise" out of many of you without even trying. When my brother and I would start "going" at each other my mother would say "if you cannot behave in a civilized manner, don't say anything at all" It's good advice.

Or allow posters to start no more than 1 or 2 threads per week. That would certainly slow some people down.

Polar Bear 06-10-2020 08:00 AM

I just think it’s funny that certain posters repeat ad nauseum certain spiels just for the purpose of drawing attention to themselves and riling up other forum members.

Hard to imagine they actually believe everything they spout! :D

Singerlady 06-10-2020 08:02 AM

Hence, the reason I never wanted to be a ‘boss’ and sit in those awful meetings where attendees feel they ALL have to make the same comments, ad nauseum, on the agenda items! Ugh!

What's even "funnier" (sad funny) is watching the swarms hone in on and attack anyone who doesn't toe the majority line and then label it..."riling up?"

Why is it there's almost zero condemnation, by their like-minded ilk...of that attempted suppression?

That was, of course...a rhetorical question. ;)

Let's also not forget those who want anyone with a contrary view to theirs, banned from the site and then they become obsessed with said "dissenters/enemy"...when their wishes aren't granted.
:ohdear:

So what you are requesting is actually censorship. Let me say it again, do you want to censor the usage on these threads. That is not the purpose of these threads.

Instead of a smiley face, some of us like to post a simple thank you comment concerning the article.

I for one do not want to see censorship and restriction of replies/comments.

This is my first post of the day but rest assured there will be many more depending upon how interested I am in the articles.

Remember -- wear her mask TODAY in order to avoid wearing a respirator TOMORROW!!!

Not a bad thought but then we would need to go through the new posts, rank them, then decide which ones we want to go back to comment on. And we may not be able to reply if someone has asked us a question but we've run out of posts. I do like the idea of people toning it down though. Unfortunately for the moderator they play a role in this as well since some choose not to cooperate. Glad to see the recent post by thomp679 who I assume is a moderator.

Overreach and an attempt to control the general agenda here...by restricting conflicting views?

No doubt about it.

A 1A issue?

No, not really, because this is a private site whereby the owners...have the right to set the rules.
