Update on shooting of Jacob Blake III

So it has been 6 days since Jacob Blake III was shot in Kenosha and a lot of the” fog of war” has cleared on the “incident”. And a little update is in order.
We now know that that police were responding to a 911 call from that location from a woman who said Blake was at her home and he was not supposed to be there and that he had taken her property. Responding officers were also informed by the dispatcher that the subject (Blake) had a 99 on him, a wanted or outstanding warrant.
Additional video has emerged from the passenger side of his car showing him “scuffling” with 3 police officers. While the video is shaky a lawyer from the police union said Blake put one of the officers in a headlock and that 2 of the officers fired their tasers in unsuccessful attempts to subdue him.
Blake then broke free from the police and video taken from the driver’s side shows him walking rapidly around the front of the car with a knife in his left hand (he subsequently admitted to police that he possessed a knife). The individual taking the video told police and the press that he heard the officers repeatedly order Blake to “drop the knife”. Blake disregarded their commands and proceeded to open the driver’s car door. A police officer identified as PO Rusten Sheskey attempted to prevent Blake from entering or reaching into the car by pulling on his shirt. Having failed in that attempt Sheskey fired 7 rounds from his handgun, striking Blake 4 times. A knife was recovered from the floor of the car.
An early report that Blake was acting as a “peacemaker” in a dispute between 2 women now appears to be untrue but that has not prevented the media from continuing to promulgate it in an effort to shape the narrative.
The outstanding warrant stemmed from a May 3rd incident involving Blake’s ex-girlfriend with whom he has 3 of his 6 children where it is alleged that he entered her home at 6 am and sexually abused her in the presence of at least one of their children (if you want the specifics of what he is accused of doing I suggest you look at the NY Post archives). The other 3 children I speculate were the ones left in his car while he violated the order protection. You know the ones the media characterize as being traumatized from watching their father being shot.
So there you have it. Kenosha police responded to a domestic incident, involving an armed wanted man who refused to be arrested, physically attacked a least one officer, ignored several verbal commands, and after several unsuccessful non-lethal attempts to subdue him were finally forced to take him down with lethal force.
The officers went home that night to their families bruised but alive. As it should be. I pray sensible prosecutors find this was a good shoot and don’t succumb to the clamor of race hustlers like Crump and Jackson.

Thanks for the update. Looks like the police will be cleared of any wrongdoing as they should. I hope the suspended officers receive full pay. They have a tough job being second guessed by armchair quarterbacks.

Viperguy 08-30-2020 05:51 AM

They will be prosecuted in the court of public opinion. They may be exonerated but their personal lives will be affected for the rest of their lives. The media simply does not care, it doesn't fit their agenda.

Bay Kid 08-30-2020 06:28 AM

Another media, that hates America, false story. Another life long criminal being put forth as a hero by the media, that hates America. Another policeman being destroyed by the media, that hates America.

Such a shame.

coffeebean 08-30-2020 06:55 AM

AND........given this information, the protesting, rioting, looting and destruction still goes on. What will it take for these protestors and thugs to realize their agenda has been shattered?

Another pillar of the community LEO had to deal with.

The media doesn't hate America they love money. They will say and do whatever it takes to get the highest ratings which makes them money. It's not news anymore it's drama.

And you were there when this happened or just repeating OTHERS OPINIONS?
Since police didn’t have body cams yet we have only seen cell phone accounts. Even I think 7 automatic pistol shots in the BACK are excessive at point blank range.
But then again I wasn’t there.

Right or wrong, this I don't understand. Why did it take 7 shots, four hits, to subdue this guy? Four hits and yet he survived. Was the officer firing a .22? Was he poorly trained in arms?

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 08-30-2020 08:24 AM

One of the things that is unclear is if he was hit by a taser.

A taser will bring down pretty much anyone except people who are high on meth and similar substances. Some drugs give their users super human strength. If a cop tases a suspect and they don't go down, the cop should be very afraid.

Unless you've been in that kind of situation or have some training with handguns, you can't understand how difficult it is to hit a moving target even at point blank range.

The officer was wrestling with the guy. The guy was moving all over the place and possible grabbing for the gun. It doesn't take much movement for a bullet to be sent off line.

There were three misses. Some of those four hits may have consisted of scrapes in the arms or legs.

Training says that you keep shooting until the person goes down. I would not have an opinion until I know exactly where the wounds are.

It's about how a black guy was absolutely definitely a criminal and deserved to be shot by a cop at point-blank range. It was giving us information without citing any source at all.

What's the source? Which news report, which police report, did you get this information from?

From various reports I have read this rings true to me, the police were in fear for their well being and took action which escalated as nothing else stopped the guy.

Yeah, I too am interested in what Blake's toxicology report reveals. His actions were clearly not those of a lucid man.

And with high doses of adrenaline in the officer from this action hard to shoot straight.

This is what I wrote on my Facebook page;
"Sometimes I put up strong posts for a minute or two and then take them down. I had posted one of little children that had signs saying "**** the Police". This issue to me is more than mildly upsetting. If we cannot have a strong police force to protect us, we are indeed lost. This doesn't directly affect me, my family or my friends because they do not break the law. Somewhere off in the ether someone has decided that there should be a movement supposedly that is anti-racist, of course, a very good thing. However it is affecting this country in a very negative way for good reason. While no one was looking, as the information highway roared with life, we all were becoming a lot more aware of racial bias and it was dying. Now that we have this new movement we have a lot of elements of hatred. You can call it anything you want but no one should be taunted for saying ALL LIVES MATTER. They do. We do not CHOOSE to be black or white, straight or gay but we do choose to be nasty and ugly and to act superior. If someone breaks the law, they are WRONG. I am 80 years old and have known a lot of people and I say if you work and save and follow the law, you will have fewer difficulties with everything. The police aren't the problem."

Agreed.

It amazes me that when I write on a fb page that starts with blm, that I think that if blm matters all lives should matter and I get criticized big time for feeling that way.

As a result I do not post on those threads and have unfriended a number of people based on their response.

I am pro police..always have been. Skin color means nothing to me.

My opinion...folks on social media are being brainwashed.

What is happening on the streets is not what you are told. A scene shown last week and sent throughout the world was from Spain, but shown as our country.

See here;

"He tried to murder these police officers": Suspect killed, officer injured in Daytona Beach shootout

It never fails, some moron family member totally overlooking a criminal record a yard long of violent crimes, and claims the perp was a good father, uncle, cousin, brother, husband, or whatever even after he tries to murder two police officers.

"He belongs to a family who loved him dearly, in spite of his flaws. When it comes to him, what happened to him is wrong," said his cousin Victoria Williams. "I'm not justifying whatever happened and prayers go to his family as well, but regardless my cousin didn't deserve to die."

He brought this upon himself, had he surrendered there would have been no shooting but when he started shooting what were the officer to do? Oh silly me I forgot, they should called for a social worker.

Why police shoot so many times to bring down a suspect - CNN

"The "textbook answer" is that officers fire until they've terminated a threat, according to Seth Stoughton, an associate professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law who studies policing.
Officers use deadly force on a suspect they perceive to be an imminent threat of death or bodily harm to the officers or others. In training, police are told to use force until that person no longer presents a threat, Stoughton said."

These threats to police officers, while posts on this forum might indicate to be new and original, have been going on for many years.....well, since any policing began.

We just have to learn not to create chaos, as we are pushed to do.

Protestors are just fine.....riots never ever have been considered anything but lawlessness.

Why posts on here need to jump on one side or another is well beyond me, because who in the world are you speaking to. Even the most energetic protestor you can find will be anti rioting. Why does there even exist a question as to why they exist......they are not always, but mostly from outside agitators yet we never criticize them.

Police need no defense.....someday, we have to discuss this rationally and without creating sides

I generally avoid anything political on fb.

Great way to see pictures of our kids and grandkids that we otherwise would not see.

Also to keep up with friends.

Most of my family is on the opposite end of the political spectrum and do not think my opinion is valid. As a result I will not post any new threads that can be deemed political.

Helps to bring family unity in todays sick world.

Everyone says what you are saying. BUT they post on here using the same language and logic presented on Facebook.

What you read there (other than your family) is a recitation of "outside influences". Remember when we were not so easily swayed ? Of course, these are professionals.

Chaos is the game. Pick a side and go after it.

Not to worry about that :)

Fact is, most posts on here can be traced directly to another social media or a source with direct motives, not necessarily for the good of our country.

Making loud accusations or comments with no credible backup should not be allowed, but it is and is hard to police frankly.

No, social media is almost "devils work" no matter where or what. It is now "a tool" of un-American activities and the sad thing, it is "used" so well that innocents get caught up and do not realize the source or the reason. NOR do they care, frankly.

Most trouble I get into with mods is when I question someone as they spread lies or half truths. Showing scenes and presenting them as in our country when they are from another......accusing a person or group of terrible things with zero credible back up......currentlyi calling agitators...protestors......or similar is terribly wrong and making that call is not always wrong, but NOW it is accepted fact which is what the manipulators of this form of media want....then you are theirs.

No. He was struggling with this felon who just a few minutes earlier had an officer in a headlock, broke away from being tased, and ran around his car holding a knife then reaching for something inside the driver’s side. Is he supposed to ask him if he’s reaching for a gun then wait to see if he will turn and only shoot him once? The felon refused to submit and resisted with violence. The number of shots does’t matter!

Sorry, if I confused.

I have always been pro police. That does not mean I do not question some ndividual decisions. Getting a gun and badge does not make you flawless, nor give you God like qualities. It is a tough job, many times chosen as a career for the wrong reasons.

I have also always been against judging by race ever. Everytime, there is a problem, in this forum, it seems we either are required to simply defame black people or judge the police. I dislike anything based on hate.

Things are simply not that simple. Neither of the options I gave even get close to discussing the problem.

There are factions now that simply want chaos and will do what they can to make it chaotic.

We hear of ANTIFA, and BLM, but these groups are always prepare to hit the road and make sure there is chaos, and looting.

Proud Boys, Boogaloo, grouper army, New Mexico civil army, American Contingency

They are trained, and insure the violence continues.

This does not absolve ANTIFA nor BLM, but folks....we darn well better wake up. Those last groups have some influential backing, and have been so very active in Portland and Kenosha.

The pull to,chaos is working and frankly, I am scared. This is like a junior varsity game.

Bucco 08-30-2020 05:20 PM

Actually one of the groups, Patriot Prayer, received the ultimate in compliments today.

I just wish we could look at all of this and see what it is going to do to this country.

It is already escalated and these groups are now part of the national discourse, and none deserve to be there.

Whether or not you believe it is irrelevant. He made statements of fact, without mentioning where those facts came from. If I told you I know for an absolute fact that the Easter Bunny murdered Santa in 1974, and the current Santa is actually a Russian spy, would you a) believe me because I told you it's a fact? b) decide I'm stark raving bonkers, which is entirely possible but you don't know THAT for sure either? or c) ask me to prove it?

On a more serious note in my reading of various publications about this events a lot of what he is saying jibes with what other reports have come out.

Rather amazing that each one of these people who have been at the hands of the police were not exactly model citizens.

The nba cancels a few nights of games in protest of this fellow who in my opinion from what I have read deserved what he got. Am I supposed to be upset that the protest over this shooting, nope each time I care less and less.

All of these shooting's seem to have this in common - The suspect does not listen to the police. We have to teach each other to listen to the police and if we disagree then fight in the court system.

I wonder how many of today’s young men have the desire to become police officer’s. Can you imagine what things are going to be like? In many cities policemen are retiring or quitting and finding other employment. Some think sending a social worker to talk to criminal might be the answer. Scary!

yes, that's how it works. the warrant is issued and signed by a judge. this authorizes the police to legally take the fugitive into custody. once the fugitive is in custody he is brought to court and the warrant is vacated. in Blake's case since he was hospitalized he was handcuffed to his bed until the judge called the case in court, excused his absence and vacated the warrant. then the handcuffs were removed. the validity of the warrant at the time of arrest is not in question.
