Covid-19, deadlier than u.s. Wars

I took at look at major United States wars and compared those deaths to COVID-19, no comparison, COVID-19 is much deadlier.
Vietnam lasted 116 months 55,280 Americans died 502 deaths a month
Korea lasted 37 months 36,574 Americans died, 988 deaths a month
WWII lasted 45 months 405,399 Americans died, 9,009 a month
WWI lasted 19 months 116,516 Americans died, 6,132 a month
The Civil War lasted 48 months Confederate and U.S. total deaths of 498,332, 10,382 a month
The American Revolution lasted 100 months 4,435 Americans died 44 a month
Looking at all wars from 1775 to 1991, 41,892,128 men and women fought and served our country 959,831 gave their lives. 2.29% of those who served died protecting America.
In less than 8 months there have been 7,334,054 COVID-19 cases, deaths are 208,731. 27,000 Americans are dying each month with a death rate of 2.85% Department of Veteran's Affairs, John Hopkins University & Medicine

How do know this virus wasn’t weaponized?

But, the deaths from political wars could of been prevented. Deaths from deadly virus can’t. You can’t shoot Or hide from what you can’t see.

Sophistry, soft at that.

Regarding COVID death rates, twice as many folks have died of heart disease this year and nearly twice as many have died from cancer, so the real takeaway is that sugar, salt, fat, and sunshine actually kill more people than COVID but COVID does it quicker.

manaboutown 10-05-2020 05:44 PM

It is a weaponized virus developed at a laboratory in China, no doubt to kill people, which is what it is doing.

Moderator 10-05-2020 06:51 PM

Please stay on topic, which is COVID statistics. Political comments have been removed.

Aloha1 10-05-2020 06:52 PM

According to the CDC ( which has not walked this back) , about 6600 people have actually died FROM Sars Cov2. The 207,000 number comes from death stats which list people who died WITH covid19, not from it. Do some data digging and look at the change in deaths from heart attacks, pneumonia , flu, etc.from 2019 to now. They are all down because hospitals are coding these patients as having covid 19 regardless of when or how they got it or whether it was even a factor in their death.

ficoguy 10-05-2020 06:53 PM

To be perfectly fair, the death rate is going down. The most vulnerable have died - 80% had co-morbidity factors - obesity, diabetes, etc. The virus, like a wolf pack, picks off the weak....the strong survive....those who survive bubonic plague in Europe went on to begin the Renaissance....if the power structure of kings vs serfs had not been disrupted then learning may not have emerged for a long long time

Bikeracer2009 10-05-2020 10:24 PM

China's leader decided not to tell the world about the virus and then failed to contain it. They allowed their infected citizens to travel out of the country. What will the world do to China to punish them?

I think our debt to them should be erased for starters. Then we should stop doing business with them until they free their people and become a democracy.

The virus was better than starting a war. I remember hearing on the news that over 400,000 travelers came out of China the last two weeks before all travel was banned. Most went to NYC. I'm probably wrong on this information but I don't feel like looking it up.

Yes but you failed to mention how many “false” positive test results. We are not getting the “true” numbers. And if a person tested positive they go back and get tested again in a week and still positive, it was counted AGAIN. And shouldn’t be. I noticed you didn’t have figures for any other pandemics, like the Swine Flu?

Scott O 10-06-2020 05:12 AM

Thank you, it was exactly what point I was going to make. The statistics have been extremely skewed from the beginning, especially when they decided to make it profitable for hospitals to care for a patient with covid in the diagnosis, so suddenly it appeared on so many’s records...I know personally someone who did not have it and it was on their discharge instructions. They argued why it was on there and it was a moot point to the hospital in Atlanta...

Footer 10-06-2020 05:13 AM

Flu deaths have been in the range of 20,000 - 60,000 a year but will probably be much lower this year with all the social distancing and mask wearing.

This virus is not in China's best interests. They need a strong dollar and weak RMB so they can continue to export their products and maintain jobs for their people. They are not stupid enough to intentionally try to kill or ruin all their customers.

And don't forget they own a trillion dollars of our debt.

This is horrible, but in context, in 1918-1920, when the world population was one fourth of what it is now, 28% of Americans are thought to have contracted the Spanish Influenza, and 2-3% of the population died: 675,000 people. The Bubonic Plague and Pneumonic Plague outbreaks of the mid-1300s and later are thought to have killed about a quarter to a third of the population of Europe. You think COVID-19 is scary? Imagine if it were like the 14th century plague. 110 million people dead just in this country. Horrifying. Two billion dead world-wide? We will survive our own particular pandemic, but numbers like this explain why it’s just as important to pour research and preparation money into pandemic prevention as into our military. There will be a “next one,” and it could be much worse.

rphil11ort 10-06-2020 05:58 AM

Problem is unlike the rest of the world we dont really know how many people died from covid. If you die of a heart attack but had.covid you died of covid. Same for car accident or anything else. The rest of the world does not do that. As the.president says 1 is to much but a real figure would be nice

mjilek 10-06-2020 06:01 AM

How about the flu, cancer, and other illnesses. Your comparison and analogy are pretty much meaningless!

As with so many things it is the money , list it as Covid and the fee is a lot more. Covid is a serious issue IF you have other issues .

Exactly... They say most deaths or Covid related.. Instead of cancer, heart attack it's all Covid. I know of a person who just died from old age 97 an in poor health but yet it was a Covid related death. It's all a scare tactic.

i had a discussion with a medical professional last week. i asked: if a person with covid is accidentally hit & killed by a car, what is his cause of death? answer: covid. they said this with a serious face. :faint:

The virus is extremely contagious. The difference in the data is who is most susceptible . All the wars and Spanish Flu kill the young. The Wuhan Flu kills the elderly.

More people die of cancer every year than any virus. Guess we just have to live with people dying during our lifetime. Everyone dies. It's a fact of life.

Flu deaths usually about 30,000 per year. Current projections for the year after the first COVID death are 300,000 - 350,000 so there is just a little difference!

A couple of problems with your reasoning. First you do know the flu does this on a regular yearly basis but you overlooked that.

Secondly you figures for some of the wars are way off so be careful of how you report your statistics. Vietnam deaths we’re over 65,000 and the Civil War was over 650,000 and the latest from historians are talking about that figure be over 700,000. But until I see better facts I’m sticking with the 650,000 number.

Also if you remove New York you’ll be amazed how much the current virus numbers drop. So be car with your stats.

My guess is this could be a baby death rate of maybe 20%.

Does this get reported as a pandemic????

Just a bit of info for you. Pre Covid over 7,000,000 die in the US each year on average from various causes. You can find multiple resources that will break that number down for you specific to each cause. Year to date Covid has resulted in an additional 833 deaths per day with the bulk of those deaths occurring in the first 90 days of the pandemic. That number has decreased each day since then and that number includes individuals who died from other causes but then it was determined that they had Covid as well. All this data is available at multiple government websites and other independent sites.

You can go to the CDC website and research the data. Specifically the data is broken down by age groups as to the percent of the population of that group who got flu shot in 2019. For those 65 and older group 67% received the shot meaning 36% did not for whatever reason and they remain vulnerable.
