Spanish Springs Cruise In?!!

I was shocked to drive by Spanish Spring's Square tonight and see HOW MANY PEOPLE were there. ZERO parking spots. WOW. I think it was some kind of a 'cruise in'. Were you there? Did you feel okay with the amount of people mingling? Certainly not my cup of tea during a pandemic since I have to be super careful to not get sick, but wondering if you felt safe enough to attend.

Stu from NYC 11-21-2020 06:52 PM

Seems like most people think the pandemic is over

stanley 11-21-2020 07:20 PM

I was there, I'm good with it.

Tom52 11-21-2020 07:47 PM

Yes, I felt safe enough to attend.

What exactly was going on in the square. I know there was the Delight band but was it a car show?

In normal times it's once a month on a Saturday at SS. Certain car clubs will be featured and cars start to arrive around 3pm and the band starts at 4pm. Usually the band is one the top 5 groups, such as Rocky & the Rollers, Johnny Wild & the Deelites, The Hooligans, Uncle Bob's Rock Shop and couple of others. They'll sometimes add a third beer stand, a portable tent on the north side of the square. Some of the food trailers will be there such as Bobalou's BBQ, my favorite. I believe today was the first Cruise-in since last March.

Yikes, were those pictures taken tonight? I hope not, people packed tight and just about no one wearing a mask. We have always enjoyed the cruise in, but it’s not a “to die for” event. You won’t find us there until we have been Covid vaccinated.

Tom52 11-21-2020 08:51 PM

Monthly cruise nite started up again. There were about 100-150 cars on display parked around the square. Not all that crowded compared to normal. I paid no attention to the crowd inside the square.

Above pictures not from tonight.

La lamy 11-22-2020 05:52 AM

Thanks for the explanation and pictures. Nice cars!!

I was wondering the same. However, I don’t see ONE single person with a mask. I don’t think these are new pics.

ruralgoddess 11-22-2020 05:54 AM

That's a huge part of the problem.

Alicat5977 11-22-2020 06:04 AM

Yes, they are the 3rd Saturday of the month.

neikenberry 11-22-2020 06:09 AM

OMG...this constitutes a large gathering...just the thing the CDC says to avoid and not attend. This pandemic is not over folks...

ts12755 11-22-2020 06:15 AM

If you have health issues stay home away from crowds. We are fed up with living in fear and shutdown from Corona. If you die you die, your time is up. Live the few years you have left.

Quit clutching your pearls and hold your pants...these are old pictures, you know what it’s still a free state here in Florida! Every time anyone gathers there is always those who loose their minds...we have had political rally’s, Farmers markets, a fall festival in Oxford and nothing has significantly changed in relation to CCP...some of us are trying to live our lives, if you choose not to, that’s your prerogative...stay home..

A lot of people want to get on with their lives and quit living in abject fear over a virus that has a 99.9% survival rate.

Not only 99.9% but also total propaganda. Read, learn, & live the science: Dr. Hawkinson (Medical Specialist in Pathology / Virology) along with a dozen credentials mentioned:

Not a problem

No - I do *not* feel uncomfortable at all attending these great events and seeing people enjoying life and purpose - responsibly. I love it!!! I just moved here from a state with significant lock downs and felt my purpose in life was non-existent and my physical and mental health was declining fast...... I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see life and have purpose again! We all face death - everyday - and must guard against many things (yes, we encounter many diseases, accidents, crime- a bunch of threats every day - COVID is just one of many things) - but that doesn’t mean our lives are over and we must remain locked up in seclusion! Once we get to the point that our only option is to stay confined in the home with no face-to-face human contact - what is the purpose of our existence? Thank you for the wonderful events!!! Thank you!!! And for those who do not feel comfortable - stay home and know *** you can always reach out to those who are not afraid - to be there for you - if you need assistance with anything. ***

#1bulldog 11-22-2020 06:55 AM

That was last February, wasn't it? No masks in sight. How was yesterday's attendance?

banjobob 11-22-2020 07:18 AM

Curious with so many wearing masks the fear factor is still there. I believe a huge amount of people are fed up with this fear. , if you have underlying health issues protect yourself . Open air venues are fairly safe environments.

Science is on both sides of the mask issue. Don't assume you are right

And the mask debate continues on another hijacked thread, repeat, repeat.....

Part of the draw was the entertainment... Johnny Wilde. The two together makes for LOTS of people. I was there. You can walk around to see the cars wearing a mask. I thought that was safe. I don't have a dance partner so I didn't dance but I was able to bring a chair and sit away from the crowds. There are spots where you don't have to mingle. You just have to look for them. That still allows you to enjoy their music, which is awesome.

mydavid 11-22-2020 07:38 AM

This virus has put a crimp in our golden years for sure, but if you feel the need to mingle in large groups or not wear a mask by all means do, I mean that's what freedom is choice. "sarcasm"

Great Comment I feel the same as you if you have not lived in a “lockdown state” for the duration of this pandemic, you will not understand the mental toll the lockdown takes.

Mac1996 11-22-2020 07:57 AM

Those who give up freedom for safety deserves nether.

Exactly, you moved here from a state with a lockdown. Obviously, where you lived, must have had a major breakout of the virus which mandated a reason for that lockdown. We could be in the same position here in the flash of a moment if people become irresponsible in making an effort to avoid the spread. We would not need lockdowns if people followed a few simple steps. One, no large gatherings. Right now, we have people coming from all over the US, to their winter homes, rentals or a vacation. The risk level is going up each day along with the number of people getting sick here in TV. Unfortunately, geographically, we live in an area that does not have but two hospitals which are barely equipped to handle a normal aging population, let alone a pandemic. I am so tired of people saying stay home or I am healthy so I do not need to worry. Cancer is a silent killer. Heart issues sometimes kill without knowledge and people could be spreading the virus and not even know they have it. I hope we never have to experience what you did, but, if we continue to allow large crowds for events like this, that day may be repeated for you. You say you will be there for us....what you can do for us is be responsible and do not spread the virus in our community. People don’t have to stay home, but in the last month, we see so many people arriving here to escape the virus, and because our numbers are low, they act like there is no virus!! Stay safe, the virus is here. We just don’t have the testing here to support the real numbers.

Were people wearing masks? Probably not all of the crowd. I dont understand why people refuse to wear them.
Answer. No, I do not think its safe to be mingling with so many people.
I hope that these gatherings do not end up being super spreaders.

The COVID 19 is still here, so is Tuberculosis, influenza, yellow fever, Ebola, polio, COVID 12 14 16 and all the other plaques that have best mankind.
Will you remain isolated until they are gone and you are safe?

You will be awaiting centuries. Yes, this one likes the elderly, but the recovery rate is over 99%.

Yes, if you get it, as an elderly patient or one with other issues, you will be very ill for a bit.

If you are afraid take maximum precautions, but let the rest of us lead our lives. You will not eradicate this pathogen.
