1 foot long, a large bag of chips, a couple of chocolate cookies, and a gallon of fizzy drink!
Whats the problem?

A number of the Villages' area Subways went under during the Corona Virus 19 shut downs.

We used to stop and buy one when traveling and just eat in our car to save time.

Than we found out there were many better options out there and Subway lost its attraction.

I've been eating Subway subs since - pretty much forever. Their HQ is in Milford CT, their first store is in Bridgeport, opened in 1965, their first franchise store is in Wallingford, opened in 1975. I've lived between those locations most of my life. I don't know of anyone from Connecticut who hasn't ever had one or doesn't consider it a normal option when it's take-out night.

UnSubs

I've never had a Subway sub that looks good as the one in the ad or on the poster. So much for truth in advertising. :ohdear:

The truth is, someone DID really make that perfect sandwich, and that perfect sandwich really CAN be made. It's 100% true.

You can always ask them to make it look just like that picture, if you really want them to do it. They're pretty accommodating people, as long as there's no line behind you.

RedChariot 03-10-2021 10:13 AM

A Subway is like a bread sandwich. Not much better. Jersey Mike's is an improvement. Best is Publix with "extra meat & cheese."

Topspinmo 03-10-2021 10:21 AM

Not big fan of subway, but, sometimes convenient’ s wins.

I prefer firehouse subs. Don’t want to have get loan for Jersey mikes.

Bucco 03-10-2021 10:26 AM

I am sure that all knows, as with most youtube videos, this is actually a spoof and is from a satire website called onion. So often we see on here folks actually quoting ONION....which is something scary.

Well spotted!:clap2:
Fooled me, but now I looked again, it does look very 'spoofy!'

Just yesterday thinking about Fraboni's subs in Madison WI, my favorite.

billethkid 03-10-2021 10:59 AM

We will go to a free standing Subway store.
In our opinion and experience, the ones that are located in gas stops or other shared facilities just do not measure up on cleanliness and care.

I play golf on a championship course every Friday, so with the new location so I close, I spin by on Thursday morning pick up a Giant #3, Ham & Provolone (Mike's Way) lettuce, tomato, onions, oil & vinegar, oregano, salt & pepper, cut in 4 sections. I have lunch & diner for two days, and with golf, I don't worry about what to eat before or after. 15 seconds in the microwave and it's even better.

I can buy Boar's Head Virginia Baked Ham at $10.99 a pound at Publix and it still doesn't taste as good. I don't believe the pandemic has hurt Subway at Pinellas & Traverse Plaza on the southside as much as Jersey Mike's has, they's a crowded anytime I go there.

I agree with the quality at Jersey Mike's. But, I think they are always crowded because the service is too slow. I was there this week, and the guy at the cash register was trying to answer the phone while 5 people were lined up to pay for subs that were already made.

Never understood why they will give priority to a phone caller when people are waiting to pay or get service

Malsua 03-10-2021 01:38 PM

If you watch to the end of the video, they also point out why Taco Bell stays open to 1am.

Service was extremely slow when wife and I tried it...won't go back. :ohdear:

Makes one wonder if the owner ever comes to a store and watches his customers experience?

The secret to their success in their first store is that it was right next to the University of Bridgeport campus. More importantly, it was open until the wee hours of the morning, when stoned potheads got the munchies and sent someone out to buy a bag of food. Pete's Subs was the only place open that late. True story.

New Englander 03-10-2021 05:17 PM

To me it seems like Subway uses flavorless cold cuts. WaWa is much better.

I think the Subway cold cuts are all made from turkey, and it says so on the menu.

Driving from Wash to NJ believe we have been to that wawa numerous times.

We prefer having them made to order (customized) and always found them to be excellent quality.

Been to the one on 441/27 and was happy to turkey sub.

They do use a good italian bread for their sandwiches

Garywt 03-10-2021 09:24 PM

I have gone to Subway 2 times and both were not really my choice, with a group. Went a third time and was going to get steak until they told me they boil the steak. Turkey sub comes with I thin slice of turkey. Six inch is tiny, foot long is at least the size of a normal sub.

Rent From A Villager 03-10-2021 11:44 PM

Jersey Mikes or Wawa are my go to places!

Blackbird45 03-11-2021 05:59 AM

If your looking for any food that looks like their ads forget it.
I worked on hundred of commercials, they always had a food stylist on set.
Some of the things they did to make the food look fabulous, made them uneatable.

b0bd0herty 03-11-2021 06:17 AM

I've said the same thing about every single fast food place. Except perhaps Culvers.

Subs etc

I gave up on subway when they ended up asking for 10 or 12 bucks for a 12-in sub made the way I want it was really ridiculous. That being said it brings back memories of buying subs during my college days in Los Angeles they had a really good way have dicing the onions and peppers and tomatoes that were ice cold on top of the roast beef and topping it with pepper oil and vinegar topping. It really was just delicious

J1ceasar 03-11-2021 07:15 AM

Oh by the way I come from Jersey where they have the original Jersey Mike's and they are definitely better than subways but as the other guy said Publix really makes better subs than all the rest

I like the Publix Ultimate Sub (Boar's Head meat). It's my favorite sub.

I concur. We order the Boar’s Head meat from Publix. I am a punk from Queens.

SacDQ 03-11-2021 08:26 AM

All the commercials on food products you see are all done in studios with food artists creating the masterpiece. A lot of the set is done with props and is not even eatable.
What you get over the counter or at the drive through widow will never look the same.
