Automatic gate openers available?

I would like a transponder that would would open the gate automatically rather than have to use the card or push the button each time. (Especially during the rain). Does such a thing exist and how do you get one.

Thank you for any assistance or ideas you may offer.

mulligan 03-15-2021 07:56 AM

card,guard, or red button

SIRE1 03-15-2021 09:24 AM

A friend of ours put one of his gate cards into his drivers side mirror (between the mirror glass and the outside of the mirror housing). He then taped it so it wouldn't come out. When he pulled into a gate, his driver side mirror was just about the same height and the gate box and the unit would read his card through the mirror housing. He said it worked for almost every gate entrance except for one or two where the gate box was a little too low for it to read from his mirror. On those few, he had his extra gate card handy or he used the button. But every time I was with him, it worked great and he didn't have to roll down his window.

And I would like the proceeds from any single Sunpass basket as of the weekend before or after Easter - as well as to be about 20 pounds thinner! lolololol

Just go through the "visitor" line at a manned gate; usually shorter line anyway and since no one really needs a card since it is not a private community, just take the easy lane..... LOL ! Also, not all, but MANY people working the gates DO open them during rain (VERY nice of them, but not all do this curtsey !)
Transponders would be GREAT, but again, probably just another expense to the residents like the $50 cards to get in a line of 12-17 cars to enter their own public streets..... LOL ! Perhaps if "guards" (greeters) were discontinued, that would save enough to give all residents a transponder cost free, but of course that would also put many of our friends and neighbors out of jobs they depend on to supplement their retirement income, so.... there is always a downside !

Actually, you can hold your gate card against your driver's window and the scanner will see it, gate will open. I do this when it's raining.

Was going to say the same thing, most open without needing to put the window down. If you had a remote it would not slow cars enough to allow golf carts to cross the street.

Surprised you didn't get 12 people saying "if you don't like it, move!" although I probably "spoke" too soon as I'm sure that comment is coming! :D I'd like the window or grille mounted transponder too but that would mean bringing the gate technology AT LEAST up to 1980. ;)

Mortal1 03-15-2021 02:34 PM

that works for a friend of ours, but

does not work with our windows. So you likely should have mentioned that you don't know if that works for all people.

Mortal1 03-15-2021 02:36 PM

yeah, no helpful or on topic answers so far...the answer to you question is NO....there is no transponder to date that will allow people worried about getting a bit damp to open the gate for you...not a bad suggestion, but not a game killer.

I've tried that, doesn't always work.

More like $15 and 0-3 cars

Gotta drive close to the receptor. Too many here are either poor drivers or drunk.

Have seen someone ahead of me waving her card three feet away...
Guess that is better than her driving into it

If you drive a Corvette or similar, car is too low. If you drive a truck, van or SUV (maybe other cars also) it works if you get close enough. When you put your window down and stick your hand out with the card, that's about the distance you need to be from the reader for it to read through the window. Works for us all the time. Depending on the line, and the weather, the visitors lane is an option.

DaleDivine 03-16-2021 05:10 AM

It would be nice if they used the bar code system instead of the card.
No more lost cards or dropped cards.
Butttt then that would be a loss in revenue for TV.

Nope

Skunky1 03-16-2021 05:39 AM

Oh poor baby!

GolfGirl122 03-16-2021 05:45 AM

If a transponder is available - I would like to give it to the Police and Fire. I see the Fire trucks almost daily stop and wait for the gate to go up, wasting time. Please get them a transponder to enter quickly when needed.

Skunky1 03-16-2021 06:04 AM

You can only go as fast as the vehicle in front of you. Slow down and enjoy life.

tsmall22204 03-16-2021 06:07 AM

Convenience is ot the issue. The gate is there to assure people come to a stop at the gate.

Langwelld 03-16-2021 06:21 AM

Get rid of gate arms!!

The Villages needs to get rid of unmanned gate entries and replace them with speed bumps. Cheaper, faster and less frustrating.

PanamaKim 03-16-2021 06:38 AM

No one has mentioned it yet, but when we first moved here almost 2 years ago, I read on one of the forums or a Facebook posting (possibly) there was a person that would implant (?) your code into your car (door, I believe), so that you wouldn’t have to mess with your card anymore. I’ve wanted to check in to it, but husband thinks we may be replacing our car soon, so I’ve delayed researching it. Anyone else heard of this?

Altavia 03-16-2021 06:40 AM

The gates can be set to open automatically a few seconds after you stop at an entrance as they do when you exit.

They do this while Villages are still under construction.

Nannyof3 03-16-2021 06:50 AM

Mine works thru the window but my friends does not. she asked about it and was told the "old card" doesn't work thru the window.

Petersweeney 03-16-2021 06:56 AM

Rf chips are the new thing in gated communities. Stick it on windshield and your done.

DannoMac 03-16-2021 07:03 AM

Call Ed Ingalls of Tri Line handyman services, 217-433-1394. For $35 he takes your key card into his van, reads the information from it and transfers that onto a chip that he then installs behind your drivers side mirror. Pull your car close to the card reader and come to a stop and voila the gate opens. I’ve been using for about a year and gate opens 99% of time. For the rare instance when it doesn’t I keep my spare key card in the door pocket. Well worth it.

talktome 03-16-2021 07:08 AM

Yes Zebra and here is the info: call Ed Ingalls of Tri Line Services 217-433-1394 and for a small fee he will install a chip on your side view mirror. Had this done last summer and what a blessing! I paid $35.00 and so worth it. No more rolling down windows. Just drive up close to reader and gate will automatically open.

No, no, the implant was in your left arm!:a040:

Lots of opinions and suggestions about gates. I wonder how many folks are willing to attend their monthly district meeting and make their suggestion there.

A few less than at the Impact Fee meeting.

Years ago, the district toyed with this idea but the cost was about $60. There wasn't much support.

nick demis 03-16-2021 08:47 AM

At some of the gates, I have to wave the card within inches and at others it can be feet away. I think age/sensitivity makes the difference of whether it will work through the window.

Yes, one does exist! $35 and mine is being installed on Monday. I’ll let you know how it works.

Just get your chauffeur to push the button when you make your grand arrival. You do have a chauffeur, don't you?

stebooo 03-16-2021 10:47 AM

This isn't to your question with regards to a transponder. I've never heard of one that works at all in the many years that I've lived here. For the last six weeks however to a different point I have noticed that the reflection quality that is posted on these bars is as minimal as one could get possibly even zero. I asked a gate employee about that recently and he said well " itreally won't make much difference anyway because most of the gates are ripped out and smashed during the day" with that in mind I started paying more attention to some of the gates during the day and they're still hard to see because of background behind them in the distance or whatever and also keep in mind that when we're driving during the day our headlights are still on so it's still going to reflect just a thought. Buy the good stuff that works.
