Are you ready to take a 'vaxication' ?

According to Merriam-Webster, vaxication — a portmanteau that blends the words vacation and vax (a common abbreviation for the wore vaccine) — has “increased in use as the COVID-19 vaccine has become more available to the public.” The word, the dictionary says, “is used humorously to describe the post-vaccination travel plans people are making.”

Many travelers have said they booked trips two weeks from the date of their final vaccine appointment — when the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says people are fully vaccinated.

Until you are fully vaccinated you cannot travel very far or to very many places.

Since virtually everyone in TV has had the opportunity to have vaccination and can now travel, what are your plans?

Tmarkwald 05-10-2021 03:21 PM

I am cruising!

tophcfa 05-10-2021 06:23 PM

We are hoping to eventually feel comfortable enough to fly again. We want to spend more time at our Villages home, and are getting really tired of the 2,740 mile round trip drive. So far four round trip drives since last spring and counting. The other thing I really want to do is get back to the gym so I can resume doing the circuit 3 or 4 times per week, haven't done that since early March of 2020. I rode in a golf cart with a friend who has also been vaccinated last week. First time sharing a golf cart with someone besides my wife in almost 15 months. Baby steps, but beginning to take some calculated risks.

rustyp 05-10-2021 06:36 PM

I'm looking south for a waxication.

You can go anywhere without being vaccinated. Even if you are vaccinated, you can still get Covid or transmit the disease to others.

Wrong on both counts

Free, free at last. Simple freedom. Amazing how we took that for granted.

Two weeks after our second shot in Feb. we were teeing off in Arizona. Coming back into Orlando airport in Mar. I was struck by how many people were lined up to take busses to Disney properties. A large portion of America has begun to return to near normal living. Spread those wings.

Not another vaccine post. Please stop.

tuccillo 05-11-2021 08:29 AM

In the near future, it is likely you will need proof of vaccination to go to some places. For example, cruises.

While there are breakthrough cases of the vaccinated, the percentages are very low. For the Pfizer Phase 3 trial, the breakthrough percentage for the test group (about 20,000 people) was about 0.03%. Recent CDC numbers for about 75 million vaccinated people put the breakthrough percentage at about 0.008%. This represents a probability that is less than suffering permanent injuries in a car accident this year. In addition, only 1% of the breakthrough cases has resulted in death.

you can pass on the virus by someone who has it(without you knowing)sneezing/coughing in their hand then handling something you end up handling(without knowing)the contaminated item(ie:mail, grocery item, gas pump, etc.). And yes if you touch it soon after them it will be transferred from a surface if still in a wet form. You can also be a carrier of the virus without showing/knowing the symptoms after the vaccine...it just won't effect you.

Passing on false information is a bad thing.

If you're getting your information from the CDC or Fauci then you already know they have changed their stance on getting/passing on the virus literally dozens of times. So what you choose to believe is your choice, but not actual fact.

I agree - passing on false information is a bad thing. Please desist

So, mayo clinic is fake news as well?

We'll just have to try not to sneeze and spit all over things then rub them on another person so they can get it into their mouths as well.

Can COVID-19 (coronavirus) spread through food, water, surfaces and pets? - Mayo Clinic

COVID-19 rarely spreads through surfaces. So why are we still deep cleaning?

Are you serious? I am vacinated now but I never stopped travelling completely. You have to live your life. Never got the Covid, and am glad. Just ready for them to get rid of the worthless masks. There are ZERO studies that show masks work for Covid-19 but some people feel they are somehow sacred. Get your vaccine and lets all move on. I am sure there are a lot of people going to be travelling this summer!

Yep, I have never stopped traveling either. Had a couple excellent vacations in England in early summer, and Dominican Republic in the fall months as well.

My post was to see how many people in TV were prepared to crawl out of their self-imposed exile and join the human race.

It's amazing how many are still drinking the kool-aid.....

I personally know of 5 people that didn't drink the kool-aid who are now dead thanks to Covid. Contrary to what some people want to believe, it really does exist and is deadly for senior citizens.

MDLNB 05-11-2021 10:23 AM

I've traveled at least half my life. I am LIVING my vacation in The Villages. Disney World for seniors. I don't need or want to cruise a bunch of fake islands and tourist traps to enjoy my life. I saw, witnessed, enjoyed the foreign nationals in their home environment without the "tourist" traps. I am perfectly content to enjoy myself here. AND if I ever get the urge to visit another country again, I can take a quick trip to Epcot to remind me of what I have LIVED for many years. You can't go to any country in the world where you won't observe American T shirts with writing in English, hear American rock songs and see American automobiles. If you ride a cruise ship to enjoy the buffet food, just take a trip to Golden Corral. If you cruise to use the gambling facilities, there are casinos within an hour drive from the Villages. Sorry if I am a downer for some, but the truth is that you are gambling your health when you go on those cruise lines. Look at how many come back every year to port with at least half the passengers coming home with some illness. Similar to folks that fly a lot. Look at how many folks that fly get to their destination and have a cold or flu. For what? To enjoy a duplicate of home away from home?

NONE - totally false.

Absolutely totally false.

Never, ever, has a cruise or a flight come back with half the passengers sick from something. But I agree, for some people, it's better to live in a shell.

I travel internationally and often and will never stop if I can help it.

rmd2 05-11-2021 11:10 AM

I've taken 3 trips already two to Nevada and one to Biloxi.

UpNorth 05-11-2021 12:24 PM

Might as well travel now. Who knows what problems that mRNA vaccine might do to you 2 or 3 years from now.

Not quite false. Several cruises have returned with all kinds of illnesses. Not that I care, since I do not do cruises. I don't have to list many examples to prove my point, but here is one from last year:

Caribbean Princess Returns To Port Everglades After 300+ Passengers Get Sick – CBS Miami

You'll have to find a better example. The second paragraph of your article notes that "345 passengers of the 3,035 passengers (11.4%)" were sick. That isn't even close to half.

Norovirus happens once in awhile - 10% of the ship gets a bit ill. But it is rare..

WE were on the verge of having CV drop close to zero in the US. That would have been wonderful, but the anti-vaxxers got stubborn and started reading propaganda started in Moscow - Russia lives to develop wedges in US society. So, they invade us with disinformation on dark media and an almost normal TV channel. It has worked and the vaccine-hesitant and the anti-vaxxers have absorbed this propaganda. (you can read it parroted on this forum). So, the US is screwed because we will NOT get close to CV zero cases.

I will wear a mask when I am inside to fight against the propaganda against masks and vaccines. I will wear a mask to honor the over 200,000 Americans who died needlessly early in the Pandemic, when we tried to pretend it away and did NOT enact the DPA in a timely manner.

I laugh when it is said, " zero studies about masks"! Over a year ago all media was full of pictures of droplets of people in different situations. They used special light. Everyone should remember those pictures. A big exhale drove droplets about 8 to 10 feet. A sneeze sent them 20 feet. When a mask was worn only some FEW droplets went straight down to the mask wearers feet - and a few exited from the top near the nose. The videos showed both normal breathing and sneezing with a mask on - droplets went basically nowhere with a mask on. Remember those videos????? Maybe some chose to forget????

I wear a mask to model behavior for the anti-vaxxers that I hope have a change of heart when they see CV NOT going to zero. I wear my mask indoors to mourn the future where if the anti-vaxxers succeed, then CV will be in the US for years and mutating all the time - possibly into versions that will be more lethal and require a NEW vaccine. I wear a mask because Australia got the CV to near zero by blocking foreign travel and wearing masks and other VERY disciplined social methods - all BEFORE vaccines were available. I wear a mask to identify who I can trust and NOT trust in the future. I will just observe who is ignorant and anti-social so that I can avoid them.

Yucatan2 05-11-2021 01:33 PM

Yep, already gone! Travelling the US in our travel trailer. Left The Villages 4/20, visiting family in AZ. Heading north to Glacier NP after. Vaccinated, wear masks when required, golfing our way around the country!

It seems to me that the thread was started to feel good because some other people also were very reckless last summer and fall and STILL lived through it. Good for those people! They were lucky! Risky but LUCKY! But, I just wonder how many people were INFECTED by these RECKLESS people (that just enjoyed their lives as they spread it around)? How many of the 900,000 estimated American DEATHS were caused by the happy-go-lucky RECKLESS types? We may NEVER know - maybe when we die some Saint will make a video about just that?

I like the way you think. Make your paradise right wherever you are. Personally, I would rather watch a movie than go on a cruise. I would NOT even take a free cruise. My idea of exciting would be to drive to Daytona and swim in the ocean. Or take a kayak trip around a lake in TV Land.

Sorry, but NO ONE knows if there will be long term side effects from the mRNA vaccines. This is the first time they have been tried on humans. Short term the vaccines are certainly safe, long term, NO ONE knows...

UpNorth 05-11-2021 03:55 PM

And, by chance, if something does happen down the road, the class-action slip and fall lawyers will be out of luck. The vaccine manufacturers made a deal with the government to protect them against lawsuits. I guess everybody will have to put the blame on you-know-who.:icon_wink:

From following these threads I have come to the conclusion that 99% of the people barely have a clue what the facts are, but they all have an opinion based on nothing factual. And before everyone goes off the deep end, I include myself in that group.

They have experimented with mRNA vaccines for 20 years.
This is quote is directly from the link you provided:
“The extra boost from the urgency of the pandemic and the government funding they received allowed them to conduct large-scale clinical trials at almost the same time that they were tweaking their formulations. By the time Moderna and Pfizer submitted their data to the Food and Drug Administration for Emergency Use Authorization, about 30,000 people in the Moderna trial (including my wife) and over 43,000 in the Pfizer trial had received the vaccine.”
That’s it. There have been no long term trials. The FACT is that NO ONE knows if there will be any long term side effects from the vaccine.
