Why are some crimes not reported in TV

The other day (10/21) I witnessed what I thought looked like a stand-off in Charlotte area around Pleasant View Place , I would say there were more than 20 + Police SUV's a few Fire / Rescue vehicles and Officers with Assault rifles ,Bullet proof shields and bullet proof jackets walking toward a home, I was told there was a person with a gun and I left, I saw or heard nothing on the news or in the Villages news??? what else don't we know about? subjective news??

charlieo1126@gmail.com 10-23-2021 01:46 PM

Was every crime or domestic incident or police call for non criminal incidents , mental
health issues or alcohol reported in your town of. Mayberry ???

Stu from NYC 10-23-2021 02:29 PM

The Sun Times has no interest in reporting crimes

Mortal1 10-23-2021 02:30 PM

we all know about a gazillion times less than we think. we live on the surface of a world wide of unimagined depths...most, if not all, of the problems we face are driven by power(no, not the sunny or windy kind).

Power, in times of yore, was fairly localized(except for a few exceptions: ie: the romans). Now with facts, data, info flying through the ether at light speed it's impossible for the everyday person to have a clue as to what's truly happening. we certainly won't find out from the flat screens or the internet. it is really weird. I should have taken the blue pill.....

wlasowicz 10-23-2021 03:42 PM

If you read the sun times everything in TV is prefect of course its own by the developer. If you read the villages news it reports on crimes but not just in the villages but in the general area also

Bogie Shooter 10-23-2021 04:57 PM

Sun Times??

How much news of violent behavior do we need to read or hear about? Go on the internet, watch the daily news casts on television and listen to the radio, you will soon over dose on all the bad things going on in the world. It's kinda nice to read a newspaper that isn't all doom and gloom and glorification of thuggery. Do you drive on the interstate hoping to see blood, hair, teeth and eyeballs spread over the road surface from a vehicle accident? A morbid attitude in my opinion.

Silly me always thought a newspaper is supposed to report the news.

Koapaka 10-23-2021 06:36 PM

If you are really interested, sign up for email alerts from SpotCrime. You plug in YOU address and it gives you email notification of crimes within a 5 mile radius of your address.

So far the only thing I have seen have been MVA accidents, golf cart accidents, and animal complaints for our 5 mile area....remember too, Blotter kind of calls and actual CRIMES are not always just what warrants a "crime" vs blotter entry

Topspinmo 10-23-2021 09:28 PM

Maybe it was faults alarm, maybe the got the wrong address? I sure it there was crime someone would of been arrested. The only way news get reports are from police filed reports ( public information), drive by’s, or eves dropping on radio. Just cause you didn’t read about don’t mean it wasn’t handled correctly.

Luggage 10-24-2021 04:53 AM

Crime reports are public excluding names and addresses, there are various websites that will send you reports daily or weekly.

Luggage 10-24-2021 04:53 AM

Also newspapers and blogs are for profit usually and I know for a fact that newspapers have pretty strict internal roles as far as how much content versus how much advertising they can print because of the cost of the newspaper itself

And so it does. From the hundreds of events to choose from maybe not the types of reports you prefer.

I would certainly want to know about crime taking place in my own back yard. Crime is up significantly, including here in TV. Lots of domestic violence in America’s Friendliest Home Town, fights at the squares and people passed out behind City Fire or Cody’s. You won’t read about it in the Daily Sun. It’s all about rainbows, sunshine and living the dream.

it's part of the bubble recipe, a different version of "Stepford Wives". Keep them drunk and entertained - don't look behind or question that curtain. First time I've seen "newspapers" on driveways. I'm surprised they didn't have sidewalks with mailboxes and the front door and mailmen on foot.

Has it's benefits and deficits. I deal with the deficits and keep my head in reality aka outside the bubble.

Blackbird45 10-24-2021 06:15 AM

The news is a business like any other, news papers, tv, radio they are all the same. They cater to whatever they believe will attract the largest market share. They survive not only through the purchasers/viewers of their product, but also through advertising revenues. Editors/Producers have little interest in what is being reported and more on the size of their consumers audience.

Subscribe to the “Villages-News.com” for a report of happenings in the villages that the Sun newspaper would never report. It’s free and I get this in my email daily. You will be surprised, or not, at what happens in TV and some surrounding areas.

sallyg 10-24-2021 07:43 AM

Bad news doesn't sell houses. Welcome to the Villages.

chenault55 10-24-2021 08:04 AM

Villages Sun

The Villages Sun accommodates the reasons most of us moved here. Stories of neighbors, local happenings and recreation etc. If it’s bad news or in depth news you are looking for just subscribe to the paper you enjoyed where you come from and be grateful you had the desire to come here and enjoy your retirement. I hope that you do. Welcome to The Villages.

Marine1974 10-24-2021 08:11 AM

Possibly a suicide or mental health
situation which out of respect for family members it’s not reported.

EviesGP 10-24-2021 08:16 AM

I'm dumping my subscription when it expires, as I've had enough of their biased opeds and reporting! And, I've learned from someone working there, that they've lost half their clients since their high. Go figure.

Real news reporting

The only means to relate news and information in TV, is the Daily Sun. The Sun is owned by the developers of TV. They will edit world and national news to include, but anything local needs to be positive. News of crime, accidents or what we'd consider "local news" in any other municipality, will not be reported, because it has a negative connotation.
For us in Sumter County, install SUMTER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE news feed and NEWSBREAK, both from the PlayStore

It must have been reported somewhere, as I knew about it. Some guy alone in his house who called 911 and said he was thinking of shooting himself. I don’t think it’s a crime to think about doing that or even to seek help by telling a 911 dispatcher. He put the gun down and got help eventually. The show of force was in my opinion unnecessary and terrifying, but if I might say so, despite my great respect for the police, there are some who always imagined SWAT-type approaches and are sad to find that they have extremely few opportunities in The Villages to put on a bullet-proof vest and pull out their weapons.

The Caretaker 10-24-2021 09:51 AM

Crime

TV will never report the full truth on crime here as it doesn’t fit their narrative! SALE SALE SALE AT ALL COST!!!!!!!

merrymini 10-24-2021 10:06 AM

The daily sun is one big advertisement for the Villages and replicators of news items from associated press. I only kept it because my husband insisted. He barely reads anything but the sports section and they do not even recycle it anymore. Stupid.

I agree. I'm new to TV and I would like to know what's going on here, the good and the bad. However, as it continues to expand, I don't know if I need to know every minor incident or misdemeanor that takes place on the other side of TV.

However, more serious crimes involving firearms/weapons or of a violent nature such as assaults, armed robbery, etc. should be reported through some sort of news outlet. In a community of primarily seniors that's just common sense.

What are you going to do differently when you get all info on serious crimes? How would your common sense be changed?
