Average age for a villager
Hello. I have been enjoying this forum for a number of years and I also came down for a Lifestyle Visit about 4 years ago. I am also amazed at the recent villages expansion. Wow!
But the years have passed and I am now going on 76 years old. So what is the average age for a new villager to buy a home and come down now? Thanks! MarvinH |
My google search said the average age of the TV population is 71.

New residents? Who knows.
"The average household income in The Villages is $79,973 with a poverty rate of 4.63%. The median rental costs in recent years comes to $1,683 per month, and the median house value is $280,300. The median age in The Villages is 71.7 years, 72.6 years for males, and 71 years for females." From: The Villages, Florida Population 2021 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs) |
The growth rate of TV is incredibly impressive! ( in the last month alone :1rotfl: )
I am 47 but not retired. I moved here in 2014 to be a caregiver. I love the diversity here and getting to know people from all over the U.S. and the world makes life here so very interesting. I hope you are having a wonderful time✌ |
63 and single...... and i can drive at night!

Based on your question "average age for a new villager to buy a home" my guess would have to be based on where in The Villages you were referring. I'm going to speculate that many of the newly retired people are in their early 60's, and I would bet that many of them are buying new homes which are in the new areas south of 44. That was probably true say 10 years ago when the area around Lake Sumter Landing and down to Brownwood was new. So now, I would expect that area to have many in their 70's. And by extension, I would expect a lot more of those north of 466 are in their late 70's and 80's,. I know that in all areas there are a mix of ages due to resales, but I suspect that this logic would explain the average age being 71.5. But this is all a guess.

My parents moved into the Villages as new owners at 80 and 73.
We also moved into the Villages recently at 54 and 52 -- we are not retired, but figured we would enter the 'bubble' early. At 54, the Villages gladly took my money. My parents wished they got here much earlier, but such is life. They are Frogs... they say they plan to 'croak' here. My wife and I don't know. Maybe we will retire here, but maybe we will live in the Villages until retirement and end up somewhere else. For now we are enjoying the fact that friends and family back in our home state experienced frost last night, and all we had was a slight chill in the air. Quote:

We first came here about seven years ago now on a lifestyle visit and have had some rental experiences before buying our current home (Alhambra) a little over a year ago now. Older village = older villagers seems to be the rule (with of course some exceptions). Many of our neighbors have been here for 10-15 years, a couple even approaching 20. You wouldn't see that in the newer developments. |
I’m 58 and hubby is 63 — we are both retired and remodeled a 25-year-old home from a single owner in February. We are snowbirds from Colorado. Our next door neighbors are our age and inherited the home from parents (also the only owners of that home). Neighbors across the street range from late 60’s to late 80’s. Not sure when we may full-time it, but probably in the next 10 years. We love it here and we live the character (and characters) on the north end along with our location between Spanish and Sumter. We joined south of 60’s club and we do go down south to rec centers and to brownwood by both car or cart — that’s just fine too. Don’t wait any longer — this is a wonderful place!

I'm 63 (64 on Thanksgiving), SWMBO just turned 63 last month.
We settled in February and have been down to the house 5 times this year (coming again next month...) Still active snowflakes, but working on my retirement and my exit strategy, so we can become Frogs... |
Moved to the old section 2 years ago, I was 58, spouse 60. We would not have entertained moving to the new section even if we could've afforded it (which we couldn't).

Curious.. Going back and forth the way you do, do you fly down or do you drive?
We have made Florida our primary residence, but will be traveling back north. Planning on 7 months here and 5 up north, broken up over the year. Not looking forward to all the driving back and forth, but thinking we will need our car up north.

I quit the corporate rat race at 53, my S.O. was already done and was 56 at the time. We snowbirded between St. Pete and Chicago until last year when we decided to become full time Florida residents. The SO turns 68 next week and I turn 65 in two months.
Hurricane fatigue and family recommendations led us to look here in 2017. We did the lifestyle tour and loved the whole idea of TV, but we wanted new construction and the only option for that was Fenny. The sales people were really pushing Fenny, and while the new neighborhood was beautiful, it felt isolated to us and we were not interested. It still feels isolated even with all the construction that never seems to stop. In 2018 we ended up closing an a beautiful new construction home in a great neighborhood where we share a border with Bridgeport at Miona on one side, and Lynnhaven/Ashland across the street. We are very happy with our new community and feel more a part of the Villages than those southern areas, even though we are constantly reminded that we are not true villagers. Oh well. We don’t golf and don’t care about “3000 clubs”, so we feel like we hit the jackpot with our community. We also like that there’s a mix of ages here. We were really set to live in the Villages, but found our new place almost by accident, and have no regrets. Your mileage may vary. |

Reality-I find that with each passing year I am a year older.
Perhaps worse surprise for many you are actually a year older than what we say. Your first birthday is at the completion of your first year not the start of it. Ponce de Leon looked for the fountain of youth in Florida. The villages? Ponce de Leon was too young to get in. So much has changed since we were born. Not all of it good. Not all of it bad. Who is that old guy in the mirror? The guy that said he would never go to Florida. |

Truly believe that age is just a number! You’ll love the community … something for everyone!

There are over 98,000 registered voters in The Villages...I"d say it's fairly representative
|
Possibly!

80 and 73
We just moved here a few weeks ago.
Never thought we would move from our beautiful home in Pine Ridge Beverly Hills, but it was too comfortable there and all we did was go in the pool, have cocktails, dinner, and TV. So we moved here for the opportunity to do more things and meet people. So far we haven’t had time to do anything except unpacking and setting up the new house in Citrus Grove. But we will be out there soon. G and C |
My wife and I moved in to Citrus Grove in August, both 51 and retired.

My wife and I are closing on our home in 11 days, Village of Amelia. We started with a lifestyle visit several years ago and returned two more times to make sure this was where we wanted to live in retirement. A career change necessitated a relocation to the southeast, so our plans were moved up by a few years. I will be continuing to work while my wife takes golf lessons and enjoys her retirement. I am turning 60 and my wife is 64.

But the homes that were occupied by that middle generation that no longer live there, are now occupied by mostly younger folks - with younger being that 50-65 year old crowd. A scattering of older people, but many younger folks. I'm not even the baby of the neighborhood anymore, there are a couple of people who've moved in who are under 60 now. And that's just in the last 2 years. |
I started out at the northern tip of villages at 60 in Springdale as one of youngest , moved as the villages moved until I landed in Fenny at 80 and one of the oldest and now back in the middle at almost 83 , probably still on the oldest category , it’s been a fun ride and probably have a seventh house in my future before I’m through
