The Villages is (in)famous again.
There was another article in the papers and lots of mention on TV (television) about The Villages Monday, Tues & Wed. . Three Village folks (doewsn't seem to be any connection between them) arrested for voting twice in the presidential election complete with names and photos. Their duplicate votes were not counted because the system worked as it is supposed to. . The latenight folks have been having a blast with it. Sadly another black mark for The Villages despite it was only 3 who got caught. Colbert's show Wed night monologue had a couple minutes on "life in The Villages." Funny and sad but true.
Edited 12/18 to add: I have requested this thread be closed. It's so sad but when folks get older, the second thing to go is their sense of humor and the inability to look in the mirror and laugh at themselves. Or maybe that's just a "local thing?" I haven't seen as much as I see here in other places. This comment from another poster pretty much covers my original intent: Quote:
WOW - three, really? Out of 150,000 people. That must have really swung the election.
Good to know the only place cheating happens in TV.
Agree. Not sure who really watches those late night shows anyway. |
Who’s Colbert? LOL.

Do you always paint with such a wide brush DAVE? I left New Jerky and reference it from time to time but definitely don't want to bring the Jersey ways South. Not a chance. There are a whole lot of New Jersey people who are fine people. We just don't take any grief from anybody, ever. NEXT! :boxing2: Colbert = NOTHING. Not worth the sweat off a grape. :1rotfl: :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: |
Vote
Vote early and vote often.

Why don't they catch the dead people?

If you read the article that was in the Village News, you would have saw that these three people voted twice, once in Florida, and once in their home state.... Mail in ballots were the reason, nothing to do with the Villages...

For some reason the national media hates the villages and bad mouths us every chance they get

It will be interesting to see their outcome.
Three Republican voters in a retirement community have been arrested on charges of casting multiple ballots. Jay Ketcik, Joan Halstead and John Rider, all residents of The Villages have been apprehended by police for voter fraud. Ketcik, 63, allegedly voted by mail in Florida last October 2020. But according to another ballot, Ketcik also voted in his home state of Michigan, court records indicate. Joan Halstead, 71, was arrested two weeks ago for allegedly voting in Florida last year but also through an absentee ballot in New York. John Rider, 61, was earlier this month arrested on suspicion of casting two ballots, though the details of his arrest are not fully known. Prosecutors have indicated that Rider submitted ballots both in Florida and in another state |

Three Voters
These people show us it’s not what they do, it’s what they are…..that is the real problem.
|
Does anybody believe that there was only three incidences of voter fraud that occurred in an election where over 11 million votes were cast? And all in one county?
The main point is that Sumter County may have the most honest government in the state. |
7 million plus three. I'm running out of fingers and toes.

I'm wondering whaat happened to Mr. Midnight.

Read the article???
You must be kidding. No one wants the facts or investigates the story so they can make up their own mind. They want some biased journalist to tell them what to think. |

At least from now on when people across the country hear about the villages they'll associate us with voter fraud rather than STDs.........a win?

Three in the WHOLE country and all in The Villages---I doubt it---this is probably the tip of the iceberg.

Haha!

We have 150,000 residents and some will be aberrant. Yes late night talk show hosts like to use it as banter. Yet we keep adding 350 new homes a month .... so likely they are simply advertising for the Morse family.

3 out of 150,000 is like a WuFlu stay for kids

A more blatant attack on democracy
There was another article in the papers and lots of mention on TV (television) about The Villages Monday, Tues & Wed…
I thought this thread was going to describe the more blantant attack on our democracy—the arrest and indictment of the two new Sumter County commissioners elected in 2020. They had campaigned on an anti-Developer platform centered on the reversal of the 25% increase in county property taxes and were elected in a landslide. Their election reversed control of the county commission from one aligned with anything the Developer proposed to an independent body representing the residents and taxpayers in the county. The Developer had funded huge campaigns for their opponents, but the will of the voters was heard. The new commissioners have done as they promised and taken the steps necessary to reverse the tax increase, opposed using every means by the Developer. In addition they have voted to resist Developer proposals to build large apartments throughout The Villages. But now “someone” has filed a trumped-up complaint against the two newly-elected commissioners—they had phone conversations regarding county business but denied the calls to county investigators. They have been indicted for third degree perjury, a felony. State law says that the Governor can replace local officials who face criminal charges. So watch for the two duly-elected commissioners replacement by the Governor. The Developer is a major campaign contributor to the Governor, so look for the replacement of the two new, duly-elected commissioners with people friendly to the Developer’s proposals. Expect your property taxes to take a major increase. And watch for a reversal of decisions rejecting construction of rental apartments throughout The Villages. The Sumter County Commission will soon be returned to being lackeys to the Developer, as it has been for many years. This “complaint” against the two new commissioners is the most blantant attack on our local democracy, unimaginable really. In the short time since the election, the Developer has exerted its considerable financial resources to overturn the votes of Sumter County voters. Your vote meant nothing! That’s the story I thought would be discussed in this thread. |
