Lawyer recommendation for Will or Trust
Looking for recommendations for a lawyer to prepare a will for me, or if I should just do it myself.
Thanks |

Ed Soulsby did ours....
get the rest of the documents current too....power of atty, etc |
The problem of doing it yourself is you do not know what you do not know. I can see doing one to learn from the exercise but then go to an attorney with a list of what you want.

I did it myself. No issues. Just paperwork if simple. Online tools readily available. If your situation is complicated get legal advice. Likely not inexpensive. At least you will have someone to sue if it is faulty,
Don’t overlook updates. It’s not static. You might pay multiple times, Don’t forget the tax planning aspect. |

Amy Pittman is who we used when we arrived in Fl full time. My wife has seen her a few times removing and adding heirs to the will. It’s her way of punishment
|
Maybe you should consider a Trust.

Law center of central Florida. 352-633-9791. Located in freedom plaza next to brownwood hotel. If you own a home, you will want ti consider a trust as well.

Legal Zoom for Florida!
If you don't have an overly complex situation (like me) you can use Legal Zoom for Florida. The do a total package (including health care, will, etc.) at a great price

Mary Trotter is an excellent attorney and is licensed in elderly law. People in Florida should never do it themselves!
|
Do it yourself works if the estate is small enough. If you are setting up trusts you need a lawyer. Working through the thought process is the important part and getting an online outline forces you to do the "thinking" before you see the estate attorney.

Consider LawDepot.com. DIY online. $99 for a year of access. All forms are easily completed, asks you questions to guide you through. If your estate is not complicated you can save a ton of $$$.

Wills/Trusts
We used Kathryn Linn as well and were extremely happy with. She prepared our wills and a family trust.
When we were investigating I found many firms offered seminars and free introduction appointments. It was a great opportunity to see what they offered and how you interacted on a personal level. Believe it or not there are some people that are fantastic at what they do that I wouldn't sit down to have coffee with on a personal level. |

Very good and reasonable.

We liked Mary Trotter. +1 352-205-7123 .... extensive experience on government side. My financial advisor who works with clients nationally said Ms Trotters team was amongst best ever worked with. Beware that Florida laws very different than most other states. I almost messed up badly thinking my legal work while in Indiana didn't need to change. Especially will. I ended up spending more switching to a Trust structure versus relying on just a will and going to probate. Compressive legal documents including will... trust.. healthcare decisions... and more I wouldn't have thought of... was less than 2,000... well worth the investment now versus the pain to my family after I'm gone.

My view based on experience.
My parents had a will. There were two of us, myself and my sister. At the time there were issues between us. My parents did not have much but anything of value was listed as well as who gets it. They did a great job of dividing it 50-50. We avoided the sometimes sad event of heirs picking your bones after you have passed. I've read this. A will is on my shoulda done list. Translation, that is my to do list that needs to once again be put on the top. My parents used a single attorney. There were some issues with the will AND SHE HAD QUIT WORKING. MY OPINION, you are better suited dealing with a practice of multiple attorneys. Cheap, ON LINE? Reminder YOU WILL BE DEAD if there are any questions or disputes. MY will is what I want to do with MY MONEY. I do not want to leave ANY holes where people that I have chosen to leave NOTHING, can challenge that I forgot them. |
