Do not know how to opt out but Seinfeld had a great episode where Kramer tried to opt out of mail.

We still get a lot of crap in the mail addressed to the original owner of our house, who passed away 16 years ago. And we often get the exact same stuff addressed to the last owners, who we bought from 7 years ago. At least 90% of everything we get in the mail goes straight into the trash.

Start here and see if it helps.
DMAchoice is a mail preference service offered by the DMA. |
That is why they have trash cans at the mail stations.

I guess mass mail advertising works because if there was no return on the expense for ads they would stop. It is amazing all the things or services that are offered in these mailings. They want to bury me, cremate me, sell me counter tops, dental/medical plans, car insurance, life insurance, invest my money, sell me silver and gold, hearing aids, cataract surgery, plastic surgery, buy my car, sell me a car, fix my sexual dysfunction, and loan me money, but nobody ever offers to give me money for free. Capitalism is great is it not!

I Offen thought about boxing a months' worth of junk mail and mark it "Return to Sender".

Personal information can be bought for a few bucks online. Tear it up and toss

Hey if we didn't have to put up with all the junk, our taxes would have to increase to support the USPS!

To directly answer that question, I have various methods that come from 43 years of IT security on a federal level . add to that a former hacker. I can tell where and how things get where, it's a built in instinct from the job. so based upon several key factors and data tracking , that's how. fact is I don't trust anyone designed like they are. |

As to TOO much junk mail, it goes right in the mailbox garbage pail in front of the mailbox building. It full most the times later in the day after all have collected there mail. Easy to dump.
|
It is tedious but you can call the company that is sending you and former owners junk mail and ask to be taken off mailing list. Number is listed on the mail. It worked for me. I just get the inserts now that are mailed to current resident

What’s the big deal? Just toss it in the trash. Btw, the villages has nothing to do with all of your junk mail.

I wouldn't , knowing the post office, your mail might end up in Alaska....
|
Easy solution, but it won't happen
The post office needs money, so drop bulk rate mail and charge everyone the same rate. That could lower first class rates and save millions of trees.
|
Nevermind - i obviously asked in the wrong place. Please stop the replies.
|
I just take those "No Postage Necessary" envelopes a lot of the solicitors include in the junk mail, tape it to a brick, and toss it in a mailbox. They can pay for it all day long.

"If you are received a deceased person's mail because you are the current occupant of their mailing address, simply write “Deceased, Return to Sender” on all mail meant for the deceased person. Leave it in your mailbox just like any other letter." |
