Cream Cheese

Can someone explain why I can't buy cream cheese at Publix? Am I the only one who suspects that this is a scam?

Cholesterol?

I found a tub at the Lake Deaton store, but with inflation, I had to put it on lay-away. If you sneak into the back freezer area, you probably can nick my tub -- I have until this weekend to find the funds to get it out.

If it is missing on Sunday afternoon, I'll know it is one of you who got it, and I'll schmeer your name for taking it.

This is happening all over TV. When I first heard of this did stock up as Aldi had plenty.

Do not need it now but in recent weeks Walmart and Aldi have none.

They blame a cyber attack from last year. It seems our industries are fair game to foreign hackers who spread ransomware.

Make a deal trade half of it for a few bagels

Buckeyephan 02-18-2022 11:56 AM

This has been a country-wide problem since before Christmas. Daughter in Virginia can't get it either. New York didn't have enough for their deli bagels. Bad news is that there really isn't any good substitute for cream cheese.

I'm super excited you stocked up.. (me me me ) what are we supposed to do?

And do we still hoard toilet paper? my wife said we should just throw it out now that we made everyone else use a leaf.

I looked for some in Aldi (441) yesterday - empty shelf :-(

asianthree 02-18-2022 01:27 PM

At Costco last week, they had tons of 16oz, and bricks. Sorry I could have filled my yeti to the brim, and sold out the back of my car:a040:

PugMom 02-18-2022 03:50 PM

go early in the morning after the guys have stocked the shelves. you may be limited to the kind you can get, too

Publix, Lake Deaton Plaza had one on the shelf at 8pm tonight...as well as some
other brands

maybe you just need to shop around

GOLFER54 02-19-2022 05:48 AM

You might have to take a ride to Philadelphia

HeleneGB 02-19-2022 06:28 AM

Walmart had some yesterday

Babubhat 02-19-2022 06:30 AM

I have a six month supply. Early bird gets the cream cheese

I concur with this at the 441 store. Lots there yesterday.

Luggage 02-19-2022 06:57 AM

Just goes to show how jaded we are as consumers in America. I know with all the cows around here someone will be inventive and come out with a Florida brand or start making it in their own home all you need is milk after all.

It’s the same all over. Try Aldi’s. I grabbed 4 bars there.

Jelly, jam, even mayonnaise.. Anything but cream cheese... 🤢🤮

mydavid 02-19-2022 07:20 AM

Shop at a different store, you may find what you want and save money why you do it:bigbow:

JayDub 02-19-2022 07:25 AM

Sounds like the TP shortage. Start the rumor of a potential shortage and people buy whether they need it or not. Some just buy more than they can actually use.

Ruth Garza 02-19-2022 07:31 AM

It’s been on the news several times since December. Cyber attack that crippled the manufacturers and the lack of staff due to pandemic combined to make the severe shortage. Supply chain issues as well. It was the perfect storm and it will be difficult for them to catch up. This too shall pass. But in the meantime it is poopy to say the least.

agjaret@aol.com 02-19-2022 07:46 AM

who knows.

i was told in the store there is a shortage of packing containers!!
Philly is in foil.

The cows are on strike due to all the Bull in DC

donassaid 02-19-2022 08:03 AM

Just don't buy refrigerated crescent rolls at Publix. Walmart had only one pack at $1.32 and we needed 2 for a recipe. It cost $5.07 at Publix. Would love for someone to explain how Publix rolls were worth $3.75 more than Walmart's.

The issue is not the Cream Cheese itself,
The manufacturers are having issues getting food grade containers FOR the cream cheese (raw materials for containers)
Having beeniin the grocery business for over 40+years ,that's what my associates are telling me .It's pretty much a nation wide issue ,and not just cream cheese
Hope this helps a little

Supply Problems

There are supply problems with various foods.

It is possible to make your own cream cheese without a lot of trouble. Go to YouTube and search for videos on how to do this. You need milk and a starter. Starters can be bought online (e.g. Amazon).

The cream cheese you make will be much healthier due to lack of preservatives. But it won't keep for too many days. Imagine - needing to finish cream cheese :)

I make my own yogurt with the same starter (how it is prepared determines if it becomes cream cheese, cottage cheese or yogurt when you start with milk....the same starter works for all, except cottage cheese needs a little vinegar.)

PugMom 02-19-2022 08:16 AM

thx for the info--good to know

sborlove 02-19-2022 08:17 AM

The Fresh Market had the packages of the block if you are still looking. This was on Thursday that they had it filled up.

MDLNB 02-19-2022 09:09 AM

Oh my, a cream cheese emergency!

If you had it for breakfast every day you would feel the pain of those who are doing without.

billethkid 02-19-2022 09:30 AM

Once it makes the panic buy list it's too late!

Phpb2 02-19-2022 09:55 AM

All markets NO Cream Cheese!

Good idea! Wonder why there is a shortage. Does not seem to be any shortages with other dairy products. Must be a conspiracy created by The Cheesecake Factory.

Agentjanhusak@gmail.com 02-19-2022 10:13 AM

Aldis had plenty this morning.

christiewright 02-19-2022 10:51 AM

It’s a mystery. Sam’s club has it but as to why Publix is always out is an affront to my bagels.
