94th Oscars.March 27, 2022.

2022 | Oscars.org | Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

I have only seen a few of these nominees-- Dune, West Side Story, No Time to Die, Don't Look Up, Free Guy, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, etc.

Have not been to the movie theaters very often this year nor last year.

retiredguy123 03-27-2022 01:55 PM

So, you are the one who is going to watch the Academy Awards show?

manaboutown 03-27-2022 02:05 PM

Academy awards show? Yawn, haven't watched it in years as it has deteriorated so much. Wake me when it's over.

I seldom watch any awards shows. Sometimes I tape them if they have something in them I should see for some reason or another.

Really? I could not imagine that this "event" would have anything in it that would impact my life in a positive way.

What a classy show. Complete with self-entitled narcissistic fools. I was told that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock right on stage, then cursed at him. What kind of man slaps another man? Real class, Will, real class.

Tvflguy 03-28-2022 07:24 AM

Can’t pay us to watch. News all morning is the Smith Slap. No one can tell me this was not a setup. Actors. In an attempt to get replay airtime and publicity. Seems to have done the trick from what I see this morning. Stupid and the mass media complies. As I said Stupid. And the world sees the USA. B on B crime. Sad and…. Stupid.

Stu from NYC 03-28-2022 07:53 AM

No idea if this was staged or not but really do not care.

A real man would have thrown a punch if he insulted his wife. Slapping?

Guess a duel is out though.

billethkid 03-28-2022 07:58 AM

Listening to Wanda Sykes lecturing me about Florida's "Gay, Gay, Gay law" is not my idea of riveting TV. Now, if someone punched someone in the mouth . . . . . . . . .

Serena Williams & Tracee Ellis Ross came pretty damn close!

I saw the slap and at first thought it was planned. Then to discover it was because Chris said a rude remark about Will's wife.
The slap... was it necessary? I don't know... was it chivalry or stupidity.. dont know.

No, this was not staged; it happened in real-time and in real life.

I was watching it and from the distance on TV, it didn't appear to me to be a slap. It looked like he slugged him, but I'm probably mistaken. Everything I've read said it was a slap. I'll have to find the video to see it again.

Either way no interest in watching it ever again. Most years if we see even one of the movies up for an award it is a lot and who wants to listen to the nonsense these so called stars want to lecture us about.

We saw the famous “slap” on CNN and read about the illness of Will’s wife in WSJ that Chris made fun of. I wrote to CNN immediately because they reported on the slap instead of the insult by Chris, on TV in public, of the other man’s wife. CNN had the wrong emphasis. In any country, any husband would have done no less than Will. Even animals protect their families. And words DO matter. If we think of Putin, or Biden, the only things they use are words. You never see either one in the war zone.

You ARE funny. We watch every news channel available and read many newspapers in 4 languages. How about you?

Joe Mack 03-28-2022 12:38 PM

Personally I'd be more interested in a show that celebrates the plumber or electrician of the year, not one where a bunch of pompous woke wannabes pat themselves on the back for playing make-believe.

Never read a newspaper............old news.

90% of the time, two news channels.......sometimes three.

Did you see his wife's dress? It was about 8 feet too long for her. I could have measured it better than that. I hope he doesn't slap me.

Nucky 03-28-2022 01:24 PM

You can take the Rat outta The Hood but you can't take The Hood outta the Rat. They were both born into rough areas.

We went to see Chris Rock many times at The Stress Factory in New Brunswick N.J. He was one of the Dirtiest, Funniest people I've ever heard in my life. If intent to hurt was the point of the stupid joke I just can't see him doing it to someone he just said I love you too. What a wacky situation. I wouldn't watch any award show on purpose unless I got trapped into it by my wife.

Can't believe that Chris Rock didn't retaliate. YET! :boxing2:

Velvet 03-28-2022 01:34 PM

He won’t Nucky, what would you do if someone insulted your sick wife?

Bonanza 03-28-2022 01:35 PM

Gottcha!

Respectfully answering your question. Trying to anyway.

The majority of people who are brought up in an environment that these two "Men"? were born into are taught from an early age that it's an eye for an eye. How he stood there and didn't return the best he has is amazing to me.

An insult gets an insult in return. A punch or a slap brings the same in retaliation. I wouldn't stand there or continue with the show. I would wack him back and then call Morgan & Morgan.

The best retaliation against someone would be about a year after the incident when everyone has forgotten what happened. Getting the score even would be much easier then.

Nobody is going to talk about my wife in a bad way when I don't even do it myself. I'm afraid of her. :1rotfl: She's my only real friend.

And your question back at you about your husband. Take the verbal and physical shot or ignore it and move on? :boom:

Tsk, tsk, tsk. What a shame.
There are good things in newspapers to read.
Like the funnies, at least!
Forget the "real" news. How about the ads, the classifieds, editorials, and even the obits???
And of course, there's always that stupid half-page in The Sun's LocalNews section about some nobody, which states . . . "You may know . . ."

And out of curiosity -- what news channels?

My husband treats me as he did his mother, if someone had insulted his sick mother? Hmmm… I asked him, do you think they could walk again?

davem4616 03-28-2022 02:00 PM

I haven't watched this show in ages....and no desire to

dewilson58 03-28-2022 02:02 PM

The Slow-motion video's are interesting.
Chris hands behind him, leaning in.....waiting for the slap.
Nice Hollywood slap.
I say, fake news.

Talk it up old buddy, I don’t mean old in a bad way.

The record would be squared away but not on camera. Dopey idiots the both of them. I really loved Denzel Washington coming to the rescue. What a great actor and person he is. All that good stuff skipped a couple of generations.

I vote stupidly.

Comedians make rude and usually vulgar remarks, if they didn’t they would not be funny/comedians, nobody like the joke directed at them, most suck it up.

So, you think cris didn’t get all the jokes approved before hand? I sure they don’t host go wild with what they want say on stage representing the academy.
