441 Construction
It seems the construction on 441/27 in the Home Depot vicinity has come to a screeching halt. Anyone know when this construction will resume and what might be the hold up? Thanks.

Just taking a guess coffeebean but maybe it has something to do with the young man who passed there in a construction accident a short while back. It is a crime in this day and age that simple practices seem to not have been followed. Maybe there was not good management on the site. I wonder if they had weekly safety meetings?

Seems to be normal road construction in Florida 466a into Wildwood good 2 years on the other end 466a Fruitland Park was another fiasco and work was suspended for cost overruns and delays. So expect another 2 years and I’m being optimistic

I think it’s just the nature of road construction. Seems to take forever, doesn’t it?

27/441 is taking forever wish they would speed it up.

for whatever reason, road construction seems to take a lot longer in FL than it did up north

Once the ground freezes and the snow comes up north most road projects better be finished. |

Wonder if this causes road costs to be higher? |
Everything in Florida moves slower than up north. Not sure the issue, I have never had an issue driving through the area. The lanes are open and the traffic moves along.

To get to Sam's from SB 441, turn RIGHT at the light just past Sam's and make a U-turn ASAP. Go back to the light and make a left. Sam's will be on your right.

Rarely do I ever see construction workers on the road projects here in Florida....my guess is that they must do a lot at night to avoid the heat(??)...yet you don't see any work lights maybe all the workers are too busy putting out the orange barriers to actually do any real road work |

Am not sure how you can expect anyone on this board to know something like that.

Construction Timing
Per a recent article (without delays from the accidental death) the expected completion of this project was LATE FALL 2023. So no quick completion . . . .

the barriers are placed, and a private company puts them up and removes them. Don't know about that in Florida |
Construction in the south should be much quicker

I was told that the Snow has delayed the project by Months:ohdear:

The crews got the road widened between Tampa on I-75 pretty fast. :clap2::clap2: |
The Villages construction crews would have completed it a year ago. If they offer no incentive to finish early, the only incentive is to bleed the project funds dry.

Miles of barrels, cones and barriers. The road surface in places is disintegrating and dangerous. No workers or progress observed for long periods of time. Local government officials do not seem to care, as long as they receive their salary. Oh well...

Road construction
I think road construction completion has everything to do with their contracts and incentives. In New Mexico (yes, the end of the earth), road construction was ALWAYS finished on time or ahead of time. Why? Because the contract included incentives for big bonuses for completion ahead of time....days, weeks, months. In the city we lived in, road construction was done at least a month or more ahead of time.
Maybe Florida needs to take a page out of that playbook bc every day there's delays, there's loss revenue for the state bc people won't spend $$, if they have to fight the traffic, idiotic drivers, the 80+age group that still drives and shouldn't! |
You have to work faster up North because you only have 8 months to do it in.
|
As long as the traffic keeps moving, it is not a problem (for some of us).

Thank you for reaching out! This project has not been placed on hold. There are different factors that may affect work on the construction site that can range from weather to labor and materials issues, among other reasons. I will make sure to voice your concerns to the project team and please be rest assured that they are doing their best to move things along and get the job done. kind regards, Lynette Cruz | Community Outreach Coordinator EXP U.S Services In-House FDOT Consultant, District 5 Ocala/Leesburg Construction Office: 352-326-7744 / 352-620-3020 Cell: 352-359-7059 Lynette.Cruz@dot.state.fl.us Your source for information on FDOT projects in Central Florida |
