Disney vs Desantis

I am sure this will have an effect on my future voting:

MSN

Hope the link works, if not do a Google search, the Florida taxpayers could be on the hook for $2 BILLION if this goes through.

I hope this does not go completely political.....

JSR22 04-20-2022 03:51 PM

I do not think the Governor made a smart decision.

Bogie Shooter 04-20-2022 04:09 PM

You would believe MSN????????? of course they are going to attack Desantis. Personally, I am done with Disney. They are on a downhill slide they may not recover from.

You just did. ;)

Shouldn't be affecting us up here. Mini-He is on a "we'll get even if you don't agree" rampage. Only going to get worse as the next few years come and go.

"...... warned on Tuesday that residents of Orange and Osceola counties may have to assume Disney's liabilities of anywhere between $1 billion and $2 billion if the Reedy Creek Improvement District is dissolved."

And you have every right to do that. They did something, you disagree with it, as an American you have every right to not patronize them.

Sadly, THEY apparently do not have a right to say what they believe. There is NO doubt why this action is being taken, it is a government action to retaliate against a speech that the government disagrees with - isn't that covered someplace in the constitution? Isn't free speech something we hear all the time on this forum. Or is freedom of speech only free when one agrees with the person being censored?

I hope some will look beyond the reason this action is being taken and see it is a direct attack on democracy in our country and a direct violation of the constitution.

"Some"........will. The special interest focus will be tolerated/allowed tocontinue until they eventually out numbering the some!

This topic doesn't seem like something VT would start a thread about. After 11 years on this forum, and viewing hundreds if not thousands of his comments, I almost think his account was hacked ...

VT here, I found the article interesting, I missed there were only 2 counties involved, but the potential financial impact was what I was trying to point out, made national news this evening. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

I really was not going to post this, probably my last close to political post. I will just go back to helping people.

The potential financial impact is interesting. I have been looking for some information on this so I appreciate you posting the link.

affald 04-20-2022 10:31 PM

Thank you Governor. It's a start.

YeOldeCurmudgeon 04-21-2022 04:12 AM

Surprised this was allowed because it is very political. However, I think it's important to know about about matters that affect people's taxes.

Just my two cents, but to me, the Governor's appropriate title is "Moron DeSantis" -- that's about as political I will get because I don't want to get banned ... :icon_wink:

Dotneko 04-21-2022 04:31 AM

Not as gloom and doom as MSM makes it appear. The monies will move from one account to another. Those revenues will not be lost, merely show up in another column.
But nice attempt on their part to back Disney and slam Desantis.
Orange and Osceola counties will be impacted at first, but they will bounce back with revenue gains.

Yeah what you have done is give some of the a$$hats on here a platform to slam the governor

Two Bills 04-21-2022 04:35 AM

After reading article, and personally having no dog in the fight, I thought this was the most telling comment.

State Senator Jeff Brandes, a Republican, also expressed worries over Disney's liabilities, saying: "My concern is this bill essentially wipes away Disney's $2 billion of debt," adding: "If the legislative intent here is ultimately to attack them, then why would we want to cancel $2 billion of debt?"

But is that true???? Who knows????

And if it is, why would the state of Florida allow Disney to run up a $2 billion debt????
And how would dissolving their special arrangement "cancel" debt already incurred???
Smell test anyone?????

Don’t believe any thing from MSN or any others. Wait and see what the County Tax Collectors say.

Life as I know it 04-21-2022 04:49 AM

Maybe Church status next?

It’s all political….hide the truth, go back in the closet, goodbye Mickey Mouse, for what? Maybe we should look to make up the revenue by taking away the religious tax exemptions also? It’s all about , power, greed, and getting even now. That is what it is all about.

Disney is going more then exercising their Freedom of Speech. Some companies think they are to big to bring them in check.

this is not a political response.
1. Let's hope reasonable people eventually make reasonable decisions for all our benefit.
2. This is why, we as a nation, must always think twice about any individual whom we give the power of the nuclear trigger to, regardless of political affiliation.

Good Ole Disney , influencing young minds with a Giant mouse and a Magic Kingdom…

me4vt 04-21-2022 05:06 AM

Disney

Florida never should have let Disney be a controlling factor in our Government.

Good point.

Mickey & Co. aren't going away, Once the smoke clears and the howling lessens, it is back to business as usual.

Vikingjunior 04-21-2022 05:29 AM

Maybe Disney shouldn't have tried extorting the government by threatening to withhold donations from a certain party because they didn't like a certain bill that was passed by elected officials.

Disney let a handful of people pressure them to go woke and their tanking stock reflects Americas response.

Anyone who wants to cry about moral ground let's not forget when Obama's IRS went after conservative business owners.

Politics have become down right dirty but if you stand by idle you will be walked all over in today's environment.

It's nice to have somebody willing to fight back against people who try to extort and bully their way into what they want.

Shareholders can deduct the additional from the overpaid CEO salary. Words have consequences

Yes because conservatives say they are about freedom and less government control and this shows only as long as you agree with me. Does Disney not have the right to speak out about gay bashing and discrimination what happened to the free speech conservatives are always screaming about.

As long as Disney makes money their stock will go back up don’t worry about that.

georgefloto 04-21-2022 06:16 AM

Completely agree

georgefloto 04-21-2022 06:17 AM

And the counties will tax Disney to pay off those debts. This is nothing but political fear-mongering.

noslices1 04-21-2022 06:27 AM

It seems that this whole conversation actually began with “Disney vs Parents Rights”, when the CEO of Disney came out against the Bill that the Liberals are calling the “Don’t say Gay” bill. The only thing the Bill actually does is give parents the right to choose what their young children are taught about sex in their first few years in school.

dadcat 04-21-2022 06:29 AM

Way too many Democrats/Liberals here

Just what happened two years ago a tax increase money from my pocket went another’s pocket. I’m paying an additional bond to support a companies success!
We had a state legislator that helped one specific entity over the tax payers he was to represent, he wasn’t on our payroll!
