Wayfair.com

I have been looking for new furniture, but the long delivery times has steered me to Wayfair. Has anybody purchased from them and do they recommend this company. Any pros and cons would be much appreciated.

dewilson58 05-08-2022 11:24 AM

Depends.

Wide range of quality.

Do research before purchasing.

We’ve bought several pieces from Wayfair. I also know a handful of people who have bought from them as well, without any issues. I’ve assembled quite a few furniture pieces from them.

I’ve only encountered one damaged piece, and the return was easy.

Is price of item an indication of quality or manufacturer? Several years ago I purchased leather from White's and found the arms were only bonded leather and unfortunately the arms broke down leaving a perfectly good leather recliner. Paid top prices for it at White's.

Stu from NYC 05-08-2022 12:02 PM

We have purchased a few things from them and thought quality was ok

asianthree 05-08-2022 01:35 PM

Have purchased 9 furniture items from wayfair. 2 tables and 2 cabinets. All had easy instructions, and looked better than what was available at Babette’s.plus 1/4 of the cost.

The bedroom set was exactly, the same as I could have bought in TV, saving $1,500. I did pay for set up which was $80

Djean1981 05-08-2022 02:25 PM

I would - but, I would check user reviews on the item first .

Babubhat 05-08-2022 02:47 PM

No issues. Reputable

What pieces did you buy that you liked/didn’t like?

ElDiabloJoe 05-08-2022 03:47 PM

I have purchased and assembled over a dozen items from Wayfair. My succinct thoughts:

1. When I die and reincarnate, I want to be the guy in Vietnam that owns the styrofoam and styrene wrap factory. They pack that stuff very well, he's gotta be pretty well off;

2. Read the reviews, they are pretty reliable;

3. The Wayfair furniture is usually much nicer than Ikea, and usually easier to assemble;

4. RTFM. Follow the directions. Go slowly, look very carefully at the images. Sort out and count all the pieces and hardware prior to beginning assembly. Use your own hand tools, not the POS ones they include. Do not over-tighten things - hand tight only, Go slowly (was worth repeating). Some things take 10 minutes to assemble, some things take 3 hours. Did I say go slowly yet?;

5. Had one dining chair with a cracked leg. They could not replace it within a reasonable time period, so they found one at a competitor's site (Macy's) under a different name and they had me purchase it from Macy's and then reimbursed me the entire cost. Excellent customer service;

6. They usually have a sale (on now or just over) in May. They sometimes call it MayWay Sale. It is worth waiting for if you are not in a hurry;

7. Use your cell and photograph the box when it arrives, especially if it appears UPS or FedEx were a bit hard on the item. This is for just in case you find damage inside;

8. Re-Read #4. RTFM means Read The F-ing Manual.

Most anything you can buy from Wayfair, can be bought from Overstock.com or Amazon ... both of which have MUCH better return/customer service policies.

Everything I've ever bought from Wayfair, turned out to be a problem. Quality, Description, Delivery Dates .... it always seems to be something.

We purchased 4 barstools that were just fine. Split leather, instead of full grain leather, but the colors were exactly as pictured and the quality was better than average, especially considering the lower price than we had seen elsewhere...

But a platform bed for the guest bedroom came in wrong. I had already unpacked it and to re-pack it hand have it shipped back was going to be a pain.

It was the wrong color (but in the same color pallet as the bedding we chose). We ordered a navy blue padded headboard, but what we got was a slate gray headboard. So after a phone call and a significant discount, we decided to keep it.

So far, it's served us well...

Great customer service!

I had a problem with a kitchen table and chairs several months after purchase. Without even pushing, they offered to replace or refund. I chose replace with a better set. I didn't even have to disassemble it. The truck that delivered the new set, took the old one without me disassembling it.

Madelaine Amee 05-08-2022 07:30 PM

Thank you to all who took the time to respond to my post. :)

Calisport 05-08-2022 09:05 PM

I've ordered from Wayfair for about 15 years. They have great return policies. If something is wrong with an item like broken parts and too heavy to return they sometimes refund you and you keep the item. I had this with a dining room round bar table that was broken in the structure which I fixed myself. Another was a carpet that was not the color it was listed as. So they do have some nice affordable furniture but read carefully the return policy and if you have to pay for the return postage. A lot of items are in storage and are from places like Vietnam, China or Indonesia so lots of assembly, bolts, screws, possible broken parts, shoddy packaging....but usually great savings.

Garywt 05-08-2022 09:27 PM

I bought a recliner from them once. The box looked like it had gone through a shredder when it arrived. The chair looked fine but was in the trash in about 3 months because it was a piece of junk. Have never ordered anything else from them.

Papa_lecki 05-08-2022 09:27 PM

Most of what I’ve bought has been of low quality
I would say ALL of the furniture, has been low quality.

Luggage 05-09-2022 05:27 AM

I've ordered several side chairs from them and the quality was very reasonable for the price. I also ordered a knockdown small buffet for the kitchen and it was the same quality as Ikea meaning three stars. You surely do get what you pay for oh, and I watched everything today is made in China except for better furniture. If you just want a TV stand or an umbrella oh, it's fine, remember you can always return things you don't like

Bay Kid 05-09-2022 05:37 AM

I like that you can shop only made in America by checking the made in America box.

bowlingal 05-09-2022 05:43 AM

Wayfair is excellent, awesome too. Bought several things from them....no issues

Last summer, I ordered an upholstered sofa and a large overstuffed armchair from Wayfair. I also ordered two leather armchairs and several lamps. All were delivered in a very timely manner. In fact, the sofa and chair came earlier than promised. They were designated "White Glove" - very professional delivery! One armchair was missing a piece. It was sent very quickly. Assembly of all pieces was very easy.
I highly recommend Wayfair.

Suzay 05-09-2022 05:57 AM

I have bought a few things from them ,products come broken or missing parts ..I stopped a few years ago buying from them..

Rickanvic 05-09-2022 06:01 AM

I would not buy from them again.

I bought a sectional that had great reviews. When it came in, the right side was broken. I tried to call customer service I tried to email I was not getting any responses for about 4 weeks. I went on and put the worst review in. Customer service called me right away and arranged for a new sectional to be sent. After a few weeks I got the new sectional in and though it wasn't broken one of the two areas did not come together. There was a pretty large gap in the back, the seat was fine. They offered me $200 if I kept the sectional. Not wanting to go through what I have been through not having livingroom furniture for almost 3 months, I accepted the offer. I put a throw blanket over the area but was still very frustrated that I spent a ton of money and did not have a perfect piece of furniture. I had a copy of my original review. It never showed up on their site so I wrote a new one with everything that I had gone through. It never showed up on their site. I tried reposting at three different times. After looking at all of the reviews I never saw anything less than a four-star. I am assuming they don't post anything less than 4 stars. I sold it for $200 in a garage sale a year later.

Glowfromminnesota 05-09-2022 06:30 AM

We bought a few pieces from Wayfair. Happy with everything, but a few things took a while to assemble. They are really good about returns too. We ordered an electric fireplace that was in a console. It was slightly damaged. They said to keep it and they sent us a new one. I always look for the best reviews on line. We bought a few things off Amazon too and have been happy—mattress, bed frame, etc.

Guitarman1951 05-09-2022 06:42 AM

Just bought a patio table from them with no problems. However, certain furniture that comes from overseas, i. e., China, are said to be stuck in ports. I guess you need to know if the furniture that you are buying is in stock or not.

Wayfair purchase

[QUOTE=Madelaine Amee;2093557]I have been looking for new furniture, but the long delivery times has steered me to Wayfair. Has anybody purchased from them and do they recommend this company. Any pros and cons would be much appreciated.[/QUOTE
I ordered an adjustable bed frame that really turned into a nightmare. There delivery time that was almost a month out I ended up calling and calling getting different answers as to where or when it actually would be arriving. Big issue cause I had company coming( which I did end up sleeping on mattress on floor) of course it arrived in midst of family visit. Good thing cause the adjustable king bed frame was not in 2 twin pieces as advertised they were all connected with the motors and wires …. Extremely heavy. But all in all after finally getting it set up in bedroom it does work very well and I’m very happy with it but definitely was not happy with the promised timing of delivery or the different stories I was told when I called checking on it. So to help with your question I would recommend their products but don’t be counting on exact delivery date and I’d definitely pay to have them set up furniture in your desired room. I’ll be ordering from them again but keeping in mind my lessons learned.

Miboater 05-09-2022 06:55 AM

I just finished putting together an entryway table from Wayfair. It wasn't a cheap one but it still was 50% cheaper than something comparable at Babette's. Everything was well-packed with no damage and everything was included. We've bought a few things on Wayfair in the past with no issues.

I believe you get what you pay on Wayfair more than most places. If you get something really cheap on there don't expect much but if you pay a little more you'll be happy with the quality.

I purchased a gorgeous mirrored vanity, a floor lamp, bar stools, a sewing cabinet, kitchen drawer bamboo separators and other miscellaneous items. The only problem I had was damaged parts with the sewing cabinet. Got my money back with one phone call. I think very highly of them. Good luck.

Wayfair

We’ve purchased many items from Wayfair. Great quality. If item is damaged, they send me another one no questions asked. I’m told to sell or donate damaged item. Excellent customer service!

We bought a leather recliner early on during Covid from Wayfair. It gets a lot of use since it's in the livingroom. IF it's bonded leather or even nauguahyde it's holding up well. It looks great and is very comfortable. It was ordered with "some skepticism" in that it was "un-returnable" if I remember correctly. BUT so far, so good! As an aside to this----many years ago we bought a recliner at a furniture store that was highly recommended. It was nauguahyde and really didn't stand up. After a year's use---the arms on it was cracked and foam was showing. We called them up and complained. A man came out---they got recovered and a year or so later, the same thing happened. It was a LaZboy! We hauled the thing around and years later I went to an upholsterer to have it re-done in fabric. He was also a LaZboy merchant (had a store). He said the "workings" in it weren't made anymore but they were still in great shape. We got several more years out of that chair. I'm thinking that furniture these days aren't made as they once were. It is a crap-shoot if we get items that will stand the test of time.

Oldragbagger 05-09-2022 07:56 AM

I have purchased quite a few pieces from them, especially for the last two houses which were both purchased during covid.
Generally good quality for the price. Their customer service is outstanding if you do have a problem. Be prepared for the assembly, which my husband actually enjoys, thank god.

kendi 05-09-2022 08:18 AM

Read product reviews thoroughly as well as item description. I’ve purchased items that are very nice quality and others not so much. Last purchase was bar stools on sale. Not the best quality for long term everyday use. But partly my fault. as I looked back at the description and reviews had missed some key clues. Only cost about $2.00 to return. Easy drop off at UPS.

My mom purchased a chair and two couches from Wayfair and found them to be of very poor quality. I have purchased numerous pieces from Overstock and have been extremely happy. Caveat: Be sure because although returns are possible, they are expensive. Also, Overstock offers email discounts of between 15-17% so sign up to receive their emails if you are thinking of purchasing.

I have ordered from Wayfair and been satisfied with the delivery time and quality. I have a sideboard that I love and purchased for them. My daughter has purchased a number of rooms of their furniture and all were high quality and in perfect condition. Good luck.

We have purchased many pieces of furniture from Wayfair all of which are of high quality. They also provide great customer service ...

juddfl 05-09-2022 09:22 AM

I have purchased quite a bit of things from Wayfair. What I do is look at the reviews of what I want to purchase. That will give you an indication if the product is good. If there are a couple of negative reviews and a lot of positive, I'm pretty sure that it is good. I did purchase an accent chair without checking the reviews. It looks great, but the seat is a little hard for me. My friends think it is fine. Once you buy from them, you'll be back.

We were in the same position. A few pieces we bought from Wayfair are excellent, and a few of poor quality. For example, we are replacing the couch after less than a year. It’s really hard to tell until you receive the item. I bought two excellent lamps. We just went to Babette’s factory outlet in Leesburg for a couch. It’s only open on the first weekend of every month, but we are getting the couch in a week.
