Where’s the Vegemite?

My wife (I know, I don’t have a cute nickname for her yet) and I have finally moved here from Ohio. I’m originally from Australia. In the Cincinnati area we had one of the best international markets in the country, and I was able to get my fix of Vegemite.
Does anyone know anywhere around here (other than ordering on-line) that sells Vegemite?

World Market in Winter Garden carries Vegemite AND Marmite. That's the closest place, around 35 miles from Lady Lake (which is my side of the Villages).

Papa_lecki 05-13-2022 08:12 PM

Most of us only heard the word Vegemite listening to Men At Work.

Thanks OrangeBlossomBaby. I’d crawl 35 miles over broken glass for Vegemite. (I wouldn’t walk across the street for Marmite!). Looks like the occasional trip to Winter Garden is in order.
Is there any question this forum doesn’t have an answer to?

Or simply order from Amazon

Skunky1 05-15-2022 04:56 AM

Publix used to carry it. Tell them and they may stock it on their shelves again if it’s not there.

Great idea ..... Publix carries a good selection of international foods. Walmart carries Tim Tams Australian chocolate cookie, expensive but very good.

Petersweeney 05-15-2022 06:12 AM

Clickbait no one from Australia moves to Cincinnati period

So what village are you in and when's the open house :)? I'm a Sandgroper who needs some Vegemite asap, lol! I'm in Cason Hammock.

I, too will be searching out this world market.

Save yourself the gas, just order Vegemite from Amazon and have it delivered within 24 hours!

Barbscats 05-15-2022 06:28 AM

You can order online from World Market and receive delivery within a few days. But a trip to the store might be fun- they carry a huge selection of international items.

richb9v 05-15-2022 06:44 AM

While you are there - Please pick up some Tim Tams for me.

Have you checked at Earth Fare and that other expensive healthy food store? Vegemite and Marmite are both made from brewer’s yeast extract, so they are natural products. Vegemite used to be also made in the U.S. and sold as Vegex. My mom added a little to casseroles for decades to increase the umami taste, though she didn’t know that was what it did.

LOL, Cincinnati is a wonderful place to live. If the winter weather was better I would still be living there.

You know why Queenslanders call their beer XXXX?
Because they can’t spell “beer”.

Kgcetm 05-15-2022 10:40 AM

Vegemite is a health hazard, has a disgusting taste, rots teeth, and causes boils, baldness, and should be banned from all outlets.
Marmite is the true yeast spread.
It cures all known diseases, restores hair loss, and tastes like nectar from the gods.
The OP is a Russian Bot, spreading fake and dangerous news!!:icon_wink:

A-2-56 05-15-2022 12:01 PM

Ok then. Made from leftover yeast processes and flavorings. Must be a local delicacy.

JoanTski 05-15-2022 12:20 PM

Vegemite

I’m an Aussie also and I don’t have a problem getting any Aussie foods on Amazon… Vegemite, Bushells tea, Golden Syrup etc….
Feel free to contact me by my email.. … there are one or two other Aussie in the villages I imagine ..
Cheers Mate!!!
Joan

I think you mean you would die FROM a Castlemains. Tooheys is the only true beer 🍺
Now that we have cleared that up we can start making fun of Fosters and VB. 😊

Publix has Marmite, you have to look for it. i've never seen Vegemite here, though

Wombatdi 05-15-2022 01:24 PM

Where's The Vegemite?

I'm another Aussie who lives for Vegemite on toast and a good cuppa for breakfast. Had to resort to Amazon for my fix. Did you know there is an informal Aussie/Kiwi Club in The Villages? We get together for lunch once a month at different Villages restaurants. Contact wombatdi@icloud.com for information.

G'day! I travel to Sydney 1-2 times a year for work, so if there is something that you want that you can't find let me know. I just brought back a case of VB from my trip a few weeks ago. I still have some Tooheys left...

Gpsma 05-15-2022 04:34 PM

Can any of you Aussies give a good description of what vegemite tastes like? Sounds to me like it was invented in WW2 to prevent starvation...along with spam.

My wife (a Buckeye) says it reminds her of the crusty layer at the bottom of a roast beef pan. “Umami” doesn’t quite explain it, but gets you headed in the right direction.
Much of its bad reputation comes from improper consumption. For the uninitiated it is best spread VERY thin on white bread, with real butter and sharp cheddar cheese.

Publix knows what is good for you.
No self respecting grocer, with their customers welfare at heart, would sell Vegemite!:icon_wink:
