Walmart remodel heald way

Aisles now go full length of store. No middle cut through. Also feels narrower. New checkout self serve, new pos terminal, but no tap to pay which is nuts. It would save ten seconds per transaction.

Guess they need to squeeze more product in the store. Meh

justjim 07-24-2022 07:54 AM

Change takes time to adjust and unfortunately not everything changes for the better. From my perspective this neighborhood WalMart store was doing quite well before remodel and that success will continue afterwards.

fishon 07-24-2022 08:22 AM

The new self checkout terminals are great. Lots less need for an associate’s help.

chrisinva 07-24-2022 10:22 AM

Unless I was doing it wrong, there's not enough space to easily & efficiently place my recyclable tote bags on the counter for stuffing my groceries in. Has anyone else experienced this? I placed my tote bags right next to the multiple plastic bags; space was too narrow & I couldn't place as much into the bags as I wanted to. )

chrisinva 07-24-2022 10:26 AM

Also - don't like the lack of a center aisle that previously allowed you to cut to the chase & get to prescriptions, paper products, toothpaste, etc. Without the center aisle, I must go up & down their aisles & see products I have no interest in (but that might catch my eye & therefore select). As I've said to my husband many times - I want to know who was in the Focus Group that thought THIS was a good idea!

chrisinva 07-24-2022 10:26 AM

But I do like the extra self-checkout lanes.

HAS to be a result of Marketing. The more a customer needs to walk thru a store, the more they may see items and BUY. All about $$$$$$.

And more theft then usual which happen Saturday night when we were there.

Many self-checkout lanes closed while customers stood by and waited in long lines.

According to one clerk, they don't have people to man the cameras to keep an eye out for
unscanned items.
She also said so many people are quitting Walmart and going other places with higher pay.

Just passing along what we heard.

justjim 07-24-2022 11:57 AM

Dollars is the priority

So.. they force you to take longer in the store - so, you buy more products. ;)

village dreamer 07-24-2022 01:22 PM

maybe its for the pick and pack people, shopping for you.

You got that right. :agree:

My neighbor's wife loves Publix because she likes getting the "fluff" treatment.
Well, I'd like to tell her she has more money than brains.

Buckeyephan 07-24-2022 02:45 PM

I haven’t been to that Walmart for months. Not enough parking. After driving up and down the lanes with no open slots, I give up and go to Publix.

I shop at Publix because of their quality and variety. BOGO's every week help lower the cost.

It’s in a great location with Good/price gasoline. Very popular which means they are doing a lot of things right. Can’t blame WM for trying to squeeze more revenue. We are lucky they are there. Personally we go there a couple times per week along with Aldis and Winn Dixie. Again, lucky. Never incented to shop at Publix. But for those who do, great.

Would love an Aldi or Winn Dixie south of 44!!

Chi-Town 07-25-2022 06:36 AM

Have only been to the Walmart on 466 since moving here. A much better experience than I thought it would be.

3105boy 07-25-2022 06:51 AM

No need for tap to pay if you have the Walmart app. Two clicks and you are done. It also saves you 3cents a gallon at the pump.

No tap to pay! How can that be? I don’t know how I will live without it!!!!

Hopefully for our Southern folks hang in there. We bought our new TV home 8 years ago. Between Morse & BV by Pinellas Place. At that time there was talk about the “Buildout” and the family would not build south of 44.

Well we all know what happened. We are now smack in the middle of TVland. Back in 2014 there was not much here either, but then Commercial/Shopping exploded. Yay.

Hang in there…

G.R.I.T.S. 07-25-2022 07:39 AM

I wouldn’t know what to do with those extra seconds saved at checkout.😂

retiredguy123 07-25-2022 07:43 AM

I thought it would be a good idea to buy my roasted chickens at Walmart instead of Publix and save about 4 dollars. But, then I found out that half the time I went to Walmart, they didn't have any chickens. So, now I go to Publix and pay the extra 4 dollars.

Jacob85 07-25-2022 07:45 AM

I liked it better the old way! I guess they want to make more money. More self checkouts so I suspect they did not attempt to find out what the population of people here would want!

Rodneysblue 07-25-2022 08:20 AM

They need to hand out a map of the new store layout.

Isn't that why businesses exist?

Chickens are a very automated business. The farmer knows how much food-expense-there is for each size chicken. My point, the chickens at Walmart and Winn-Dixie are smaller than the ones sold at Publix.

Holpat39 07-25-2022 09:49 AM

Wal-Mart on 441 in Summerfield changed their layout and it is more difficult to find what you are looking for. Moved items from front of store to back of store. Will take time to get used to.

I noticed over years Walmart changes stuff around about every year so you can’t find stuff:cryin2:

Stu from NYC 07-25-2022 01:52 PM

Always thought the store was too small and most of the stuff we buy they did not have.

frose 07-25-2022 04:55 PM

if I wanted a cashier job, I would get one.. bring back the cashier, they didn't drop the prices for self check out.

Very true but it seems half the time they are out of what we go there for so we end up at both places anyway. Saving 30% off of nothing is no bargain! :D

Yep, what he said ^^^^^^^^^^ It's no bargain if you can't get it.

You still have to wait for a self-checkout register to scan your phone app. Plus I thought that's only if you pay the $12.99/mo or $99/yr. WallyZonPrime FEE. It tried it a couple days ago and it wasn't available unless I pay the monthly fee. It's sort-of free at SAMS but unless I'm doing something wrong it doesn't work at Walmart without "joining." Hopefully I'm wrong.

I don't think it has anything to do with saving time. Tap to pay is a way to not touch your card to any surface. Just hover and it registers. I really like that feature.

If you want larger chickens go to Sam's Club.

I just still cash in the self checks.
