Golf Cart Etiquette
I’m currently enjoying my second lifestyle visit here in TV this week. I have a golf cart that is fixed not to exceed 15 MPH. I have noticed while driving the golf cart paths that a golf cart will come up behind me and begin to tailgate me. I have been signaling and pulling to the side of the path when there is space to do this. Is this the correct thing to do?

I’d say that is very thoughtful. Enjoy your visit

The speed limit is 20. Good luck with that. They pass doing near 30. I do clock them just to satisfy my curiosity.

Our first lifestyle in 07 the cart barely do 12 miles an hour. If you went up hill you could’ve walked faster.
Have no idea what speed owned carts were set at, but everyone passed us. Bonus, everyone that passed us knew were were in a lifestyle cart, no one seemed upset at the slow rate of speed, they just waved or smiled. |
There is no speed limit on the multimodal paths. There is a federal requirement that golf carts not exceed 19.9 mph. If it exceeds 19.9 it is a low speed vehicle which must be licensed and insured per Florida statute in addition to additional Federal safety requirements.
As the OP certainly can testify there are thousands of law breakers here in Florida's friendliest home town. |

Wave them on by or pull to the side. ENJOY!

Yes, I remember in our lifestyle visit the card went no where near 20mph, so those with personal carts could always pass us. It was okay, as we needed to pull over often anyway to check our directions.

Welcome! I am a very defensive driver and hate tailgaters, so if there is no curb on the MMP, I pull off into the grass, smile sweetly, and say to myself "they must have to pee worse than I do!" HA! Enjoy your visit and come back for good soon.

It is nice that you pull over but it is not necessary. Just drive and if someone is unhappy let them figure it out for themselves.

100% agree with this statement!!!
|
I haven’t been to an etiquette class but I wouldn’t pull off the path to let someone else by. Stay right of course but let the faster driver deal with passing.

So now, what would possess you to use it here????? Curiosity???? Also, the number of carts that go 30+ are extremely limited. Is your radar gun properly calibrated? |

Those lifestyle arts are really a nuisance at that speed , yes the prudent thing is to pull over and be safe as most carts are in the 20 to 25 mph range, it will save you a lot of grief by just getting out of the way.

Be predictable. Hold your line. If you want to pull over and safely can then fine, however not required. They can pass when safe to do so. People upping their speed regulators does not equal pushing slower carts off the trail. Just wave them on. I watched a new driver of one be bullied at the enterance of a tunnel with sharp turn on it. She was more scared by the idiot passenger in the passenger seat than she was the tunnel. He told his female driver to pass her at the tunnel enterance sight unseen and she did! It was disgusting to have observed that! You be safe, do you and ENJOY. Forget the bullies and village a-holes!

Most golf carts that “Villages Ready” are designed to max out between 20 and 22 mph. They also have headlights, taillights, horn and turn signals. Some cart owners tweak the governors up to mid to uppers 20’s mph.
On the other hand golf carts that are primarily used on golf courses typically max out about 14 mph. You may be using one of these. But they still must have headlights, taillights, horn and turn signals to travel on the streets. |

Etiquette?
There's no etiquette. It's every man, and woman, for themselves. |

Just drive as safely, carefully as you can. |
My loaner tops out at 19, though I've passed others and have had others pass me. A couple of them waved me by, which was cool, but I don't do that. Anyone can wait for a safe straightaway to pass me. The ones that waved me by had 1 or 2 passengers in them slowing them down, and they got it when they saw me behind them (not tailgating). I plan to get mine to at least 23; 19 and flooring it feels like a slug. I may not go 23 everywhere but it'll be avail when I want it. Just be aware of unsafe drivers, espec the ones going over the solid lines.
