No Neighborhood Pools

Anyone else notice that some new villages do not have a neighborhood (adult only) pool? Specifically, Richmond does not appear to have one, nor does the newest Village of Newell. Also, in St. Johns, the neighborhood pool is way down at the south end, in the villa section. Not much use for those at the northern end by the Water Lilly bridge. There are the Village Rec Centers, but those are family pools. In the past, when a new village was started, the first thing built was the postal station and neighborhood pool. Has this become a thing of the past?

asianthree 10-06-2022 07:17 AM

Need to look at the map closer or drive down.. neighborhood pools are either close to your house or farther away. You chose your house, pools were already there..Richmond’s neighborhood pools is almost done, near the walking path and dog park. For us it’s a 3 minute walk. The zero entry family pool is near gate, with workout equipment, and mailboxes is around the corner. 5 minute walk from our house. So you thoughts on no pools is not correct, since we have 2 in Richmond

Yes, it has become a thing of the past.

Our village of Osceola Hills has both an adult pool with a postal station and a family pool.

A lot of people bring their dogs to our postal station so they can crap, which I think is disgusting. In some of the new areas like Citrus Grove, dogs are banned from the postal station.

Venting the methane is priority!

GpaVader 10-06-2022 08:40 AM

We have both and I still consider us a new area. Hammock at Fenney we have an adult pool at the mail station and the family pool at the Fenney Rec Center.

Good for you.

On the other hand, I don't think the Marsh Bend Village had an adult pool. The same with Linden.

Where is it posted that dogs are banned from postal station? I live in St Cats - virtually being built at same time as CG and i see no such ban posted anywhere. Thx.

That’s one reason to buy a preowned home. My adult pool is less then 1/2 mile in one direction and the family pool is 1/2 mile in the other direction. Three great Villages to live in is Ashland, Bonnybrook and Lynhaven. Also close to Sumter Landing. Happy in The Villages😊

dewilson58 10-06-2022 11:13 AM

Because most Villagers act like children so why have adult pools.

:ho:

Aviva 10-06-2022 11:14 AM

Not so fast 😉

Based on my home location in the new area of DeLuna I am 0.6 of a mile to the DeLuna adult pool and 0.7 of a mile to the water Lily Rec center family resort pool and bonus just over a mile to cattail family pool which also hosts the Edna's on the green food trucks and entertainment daily And just a hop skip and a jump to Everglades regional sports pool. Pre-owned doesn't mean better. There are many reasons to choose all options.

Having to travel a mile or so to get to an adult pool must be really debilitating!

It is unfortunate that each house does not have a rec center, adult pool, family pool, starter shack, and a town square within a 1/2 mile walking distance. I guess some would consider that poor planning.

I might have my wires crossed but isn't there one by the food trucks, Lowlands Executive course and the Pitch & Putt? Right by the mail station there???

Farther south you go the less the quantity of recreation compared to north of 44.

Go to the postal stations at St. Cats and Citrus Grove and read the signs.

It's just the opposite we have more than our fair share of amenities. I live in Fenney. We have 3 pools, a Sports pool, adult pool, and family pool, fire pit, lawn bowling, Putt and Play, croquet, nature trails, stocked pond with fishing equipment free to use, 2 executive courses and Pickle ball in addition to all of the regular stuff like Bocce, Corn toss, Shuffleboard, etc., and just outside the gate into DeSoto we have air rifles, archery another adult pool, dog park. At our regional rec. center we have softball fields, soccer, RC boat and car courses, and additionally we have pitch and putt, astronomy pads, and so much more. and we're soon going to have kayaks. Now, what amenity is it you feel we don't have and how much of what we do have do you not have?

Anshela 10-06-2022 06:54 PM

I just watched the new Video and Richmond will have both a family pool and an adult only pool where the postal station will be. I do find that the people that are NORTH of Brownwood seem to be misinformed as to the amenities the southern areas have. But that's okay.....I am fine with them not being aware of all that we have including the neighbourhood restaurants like Fenney Grill and soon to come Harry and the natives. Edna's on the Green Truck stop and entertainment - so amazing. Country Club food??? Too bad you are so far from Coney Island, O'shucks, Cotillian, Oakwood BBQ, Willies, Reveille etc. The soon to be finished boardwalk and water activies that will be at Okahumpka. Yeah we may not have as many big box stores that are in Lady Lake but I am just fine with only having to travel there once in a while to do a big shop than have to deal with that regular traffic....or better yet hop on the turnpike and get the best stores like costco and ikea a short drive towards Orlando. Love having the ability to have all my gas appliances in our newer areas - they cook better and dry clothing better and way cheaper than electric. All areas have their + and - qualities but writing off an area that you really know nothing about is both inaccurate and unkind. Get your facts straight before you start bashing the newer areas.

The signs at the st cats postal station do not say that dogs are banned that i can see. The pool prohibits animals with the fence.

I do find that the new people that are SOUTH of Brownwood seem to be misinformed as to the Northern areas have...

Oakwood Grill (the small mostly carry out one) is on 301 between 44 & 466A. The BIG (dine-in) one is on 441 North of 466A.

I'm equidistant from both...

Coney Island is right nearby on 301, between 44 and 466A...

Bluefin, Harvest, Prima Italiano, Wolfgang Pucks, Cody's, Red Sauce, The Chop House, etc, etc, etc, are just some of the restaurants (along with Palmer, which is amazing, Lopez, which I haven't been yet, and about a dozen other places I can't remember right now)...

I have been to Fenney Grill and Edna's. They're both very nice. As are the many other places I mentioned... But... Are they enough to satisfy the population? TBD...

The Turnpike is actually accessible to all points North and gas is available in several areas north of 44. Costco is 45 minutes away... Our friends buried a propane tank (where natural gas in not available) just for cooking (and possibly a summer kitchen and hot tub if they ever get around to putting them in)...

And electricity in TV is cheap. I pay less per kW in electric in TV than I do in my house in MD. I also have gas heat, hot water and cooking up north and the gas bills can be ridiculous. Natural gas is going up in price...

Agreed. I think that in maybe 4-5 years, once the southern areas are more "finished", there will be many more amenities and it'll be an even better place to live. But you really shouldn't "write off" living farther north, since it seems like you know very little about it...

Oh, and before you ask, I'm in the southern most part of the north, less than a mile north of 44... We're 10 minutes (via golf cart) from Brownwood, 15 minutes from LSL, and if we want to go to Spanish Springs, we hop in the car.

We first started looking when we visited 3 friends years ago, next month. We looked far up north. We looked in Fenney, Marsh Bend, Chitty Chatty and Bradford. We decided to concentrate on a resale between 466A and 44. We're quite happy there. I hope you continue to be happy with your purchase...

Garywt 10-06-2022 08:14 PM

Looks like there are 2 rec centers there. The great thing about neighborhood pools is there is always another one close by. In fact another neighborhood pool might be closer to your house.

I agree about the gas appliances. We have gas north of 44 in Mallory Square.

asianthree 10-07-2022 12:44 AM

Another thread about north vs south. Y'all do realize, many that live in the south know exactly what amenities the north has....that's where they moved from.

So one would ask why does one move from the North that is so much better, to the south? And are very happy they did.

Last I checked developer must be doing something right to draw residents from the north to migrate to the south.

Our first and only long term tenet lived near SS, our rental was in fernandina. One question we asked during interview was why move so far south....he smiled "I want to live where the younger people are". He was 78

I live in Linden and have a family pool and a adult only pool, both within half mile of me. Riverbend family pool and the adult pool is by the Monarch Grove postal center. In the new villages, we are more social and like to be friendly and share the pool with neighbors from within the villages.

I don't know how anyone north or south has time to live a fun filled live with all the bashing of each other. People, we all live in the same beautiful big community and should be happy for each other. As each of your children were born, you probably did something better but does that mean that you love the older ones less? Just remember, at the rate The Villages is growing, your part of it will become obsolete in no time. As far as living in the south to get away from the old people, there are 80 year olds that can run rings around the much younger folks! Be happy where you are or move. That's what's so great about the good ole USA!!!

This is the perfect thread. It combines the "North vs. South" amenities debate with a dog poop conversation. Pure genius!

Now, please, nobody spoil it with a political spin and get it deleted.
